I can't understand why nurseries are still allowed to sell invasive plants. It's incredible.

Especially when you consider how absolutely on top of it Australia is about the import/ sale of non-native and potentially invasive exotic animals it's very weird. Definitely something you'd think the nurseries would want to incentivize too

Nor should they be able to sell plants that don't grow in your zone.

      Infuriating

Ridiculous. As a bush regenerator I’m regularly getting paid to treat stuff that others are stocking up on at Bunnings.

Plant Cordyline petiolaris, rubra and stricta. They're our native species, not the Hawaiian C. fruticosa which has the variegated white/green/red leaves.

Don’t forget to get the local native species of your area, as non-local natives can themselves become invasive!

      Exactly right!

Agreed, would be great to see a focus on endemic plants, they are not always easy to source.

i purchased a native mint plant seems to be doing quite well. i have kidney weed in a pot as i wasn't sure how it would go in the ground. kidney weed is a common thing i see out in the bush locally. i live in sydney west we have different natives to rest of region. i planted a corea its also going quite well. im unsure of flowering times with the corea.

At nurseries the choice can also be very underwhelming, especially when it comes to their native plant range, which unfortunately often appears to be an afterthought

Yes, it can be like that, unfortunately. There are some nurseries that specialise in native plants but it depends on your area.

Can you please suggest some good bushy plants with bright flowers that can be grown in Western Australia? Thanks.

Western Australia is a very large state, with a wide range of habitat.
