Now I know it may seem random but let me explain why it might be a good au:
We know that the year is 1978 right and that Finney is 13 when he gets kidnapped. And Steve Harrington was formally introduced in season 3 of ST, and he's 19 because he graduated 1985. And Eddie (would've) graduated in 1986 being 19-20 years old. So that leaves the 6 year gap between the 2 characters right? So during this 6 year gap, there are 2 possibilities (you can choose what you want): Finney and Gwen end up in the foster care system because their father was reported (abuse, and etc) and lost custody of them, then gwen ends up getting separated after she gets adopted, and then Finney gets adopted, and his adopted parents change his name to Steve Harrington, and he acts cold because he lost his sister. Or option #2: same scenario but Finney is still a coward. The dad dies of alcohol poisoning, so they're uncle (mom's brother) adopted them and changes there names, Gwen ends up dying of a terminal illness, leaving just finney aka Eddie with his uncle, and the rest is history.
