013 Crazy Tri-Flow Obsidian Biface Knife Preform - Direct Percussion Flintknapping

  • This was a nodule of an unusual variety of tri-flow obsidian. In addition to red, it had many tones of black (translucent shiny, and opaque matte), something I have not seen in other tri-flow pieces. I managed to get dozens of usable flakes / spalls and produce a nice biface.
    Technique: Direct percussion with a copper bopper.
    Material: Tri-Flow obsidian

    Do you collect your own material, or do you have a shop you use? I''m deep in south tx and have been looking for someone that has large nodes of obsidian. Great work btw!

      I was fortunate to collect it myself. There are good sellers online if you don’t have access to a source…check out one of the flintknapping Facebook groups, you’ll find trusted sellers.

      Ive only got from him once, but neolithics has huuuge 20-30 pound obsidian chunks if you buy in bulk
