I'm glad that Keith David is getting a lot more voice over roles nowadays.
Would've been great if he was the actual big bad instead of some geriatric machine's pet.
People seemed to instantly hate Andrias when he was revealed to be evil, which yeah the king being evil the whole time trope was overdone as is but he’s just such a charismatic and adorable fella while remaining a legitimately imposing threat that I just couldn’t not love him to no end
the things is, you can tell the whole time he really doesn't want to go through with it, that's what makes him different to the trope

@@viewing845 AGREED. Very few shows will have a villain who still takes their punishment after their redemption, yet remains a willing force for good, prison chains or not
In their defense, when Andrias revealed his true nature to everyone he tried to capture Anne and her friends, dropped Sprig from a window in his flying castle out of spite, tried to kill Anne when he discovered she still had her powers, and impaled Marcy when she helped Anne and the Plantars escape to Earth. He then spent the next season assembling armies of robots to invade Earth, enslaving the inhabitants of Amphibia, sending robots to kill Anne, and depleting Amphibia of it's resources turning it into a wasteland.
I mean, to be fair, when he killed Marcy he didn’t seem very remorseful. But maybe he was just disappointed it had come to that and knew that the medical technology could easily revive Marcy (in some way).
Andrias is a great example of a twist villain who stays the same after they are revealed, unlike most who are suddenly way more evil.
Reminds me of Todd from breaking bad. He began as an awkward yet polite and timid person. He committed crimes but it wasn't until murdering Drew he was established as legitimately evil. Yet it worked because his timid nature wasn't a facade. He genuinely is fairly polite while being completely willing to murder anyone. Same with Andrias, his jovial nature wasn't a facade so his twist didn't turn him into a completely different person.
What's crazy is that he still remains jovial after the reveal, which makes it all the more terrifying.
Tbf, the other twist villains tone up their evil to make it clear they shouldn’t be forgiven. Since Andrias was a minion that only followed the Core’s lead out of manipulation and misunderstanding, they wouldn’t want to erase any sympathies that could help him give up on being evil.

That line hits hard. Andrias could’ve been a nice father figure to Marcy if he didn’t betray her.
And if it wasn't for the Core forcing him to do stuff to her against his will, like betraying her...

The evilest thing Andrias did was trolling Anne into picking the wrong hand. Thats clearly pure evil.

Keith David really outdid himself with Andrias. He had everything I like in a villain. He was menacing, competent, the occasional funny moment, and a complex moral compass and motivation. The scene where he read Lief’s letter really tugged at my heartstrings.
I think his voice suits Andrias even more than Dr. Facilier.

Definitely agree, I love how the writers somehow manage to make him likeable to some after all he did to Sprig, Marcy, etc. I love how hilarious they made him in the Christmas episode too.
Although Frobo's death was tragic, the 'don't worry, you're up next' was funnier than it should have been
And then Polly repaired and upgraded Frobo in "All In"...
Uhh.. not me, he crossed the line with Marbles, just like Belos did in his show (I won’t say how)
@@lennydickson8845 OK Philip Whittebane was never likable like not even a little bit Andrias You could tell that goofy personality was actually him, but it was also contorted by his layers of evil he developed Belos was just rotten to the core
@@jrax1713 Agreed. Andrias is more like Hunter, while Belos is more like Aldrich and the Core. Early on, we thought it would be cool if the giant salamander and the genocidal witch hunter teamed up to stop Anne and Luz from saving the world, but as it turns out, that wouldn't be feasible in the least (Andrias would only do that with the Core's influence, or rather, the Core would force him to do that). I think Andrias would be much better friends with Hunter.

What I always enjoyed about Andrias is that he acts pretty kooky when we first meet him, then he reveals he's evil... and he's still kooky. Like how he asks his assassin bot to also pick up a book while he's out killed Anne. Or when he's piloting the Santa-bot he still acts jolly.
Plus they show us his history, showing that he was much the same back then and how he genuinely felt conflicted over wiping out humanity and yet guilty for losing the music box.
I remember you was feeling conflicted Andrias!

Even he is a villain, he made a great point right there. Who can blame, he used to have friends until everything fell apart.
And now, as of his redemption, he's found his way back to those friends, who're waiting for him in the afterlife, where he'll become Prince Andrias again...and Aldrich and the others in the Core are all rotting away in the deepest pits of Amphibia's equivalent of Hell in its afterlife.
4:20 That's some subtle foreshadowing. I thought the creaking was his armor, but it was actually his metal joints. That also explains how he's able to jump to and from his flying fortress without much effort.

Be honest now, we all thought he was irredeemable until The Core and the King.
He showed signs of hesitation at some points.
A declaration we preemptively made after seeing "True Colors" before we even saw his full history. I remember trying to keep my hope alive of his redemption (I even said to myself after I first saw it, even though I was kind of surprised, "I just hope [Andrias] can be redeemed somehow," even though "perhaps [I was] in the minority here [back then]"), and predicting the Core was the real manipulator both of him and Marcy, even though it's easily distracted by its own sadism. Even within the span of two extra-long episodes, redemption arcs can still work (like Andrias', who'd shown hints of this redemption throughout season 3 and to a lesser extent season 2). I wonder if many of us might've made the same mistake Andrias did for a millennium?

My favourite Disney villains: Bill Cipher, King Andrias and Emperor Belos. And Andrias is the only one who redeemed himself, so bonus points for him.

@@jrax1713 And plus, a lot of us were quick to close our minds (and hearts) to his hypothetical redemption (which became a reality in "All In" and "The Hardest Thing") and hastily pronounced him irredeemable when we saw what he did in "True Colors," I think making the same mistake he did for a millennium (it's interesting how sometimes we let our emotions override our logical thinking, like when Andrias stabbed Marcy against his will). I remember trying to hold onto my hope that he could be redeemed somehow after I read up on the episode on TV Tropes (I was a bit shocked, but still tried to see the good in Andrias). And I agree with both your comment and the original-he didn't really _want_ to be a tyrant or a conqueror (those words would describe the Core much better with its endless malice and bottomless cruelty), but he saw it as his only option to please the beyond malevolent mind hive. And now, he gets to live a happy life healing the land and doing community service (unlike when he was chained to his throne, or rather the Core's prison bench), and eventually seeing Leif and Barrel again in the afterlife where he'll become Prince Annedrias once more and enjoy their eternal friendship. Unlike Aldrich who's rotting in the deepest pits of the Amphibian equivalent of Hell with all the others in the Core.
I also liked Mr X as an Amphibia villain tbh
He is inconsistently heinous while Bill and Belos are pure evil
Andrias is one of the most well-written characters in the show. He's as likable and funny as he is deep and tragic. Even after he's revealed to be a villain, he maintains that charisma
I love how as soon as he became evil he became taller and massive
The worst thing about Andrias is that he is actually a really good guy. He is kind, humble and friendly but has been steered into evil by his father HARD. You notice that he doesn't want to do any of this, but feels like it is his duty.
and also convinces himself that this is what's right, though he fails like when the core spoke of friends and unlimited power, him saying "it's everything I've ever wanted" with an expression of regret indicate that he refered to the friend part

200th like. And I like how Andrais is one of the rare cases of a twist villain who actually has the same personality after the twist, it honestly makes him one of my favorite villains.
*Unpopular opinion:* Andrias deserved better, despite his flaws and actions during the show.

I'm torn about that. Even though manipulated by Aldrich and the Core; he enjoyed playing the evil part way too much. He was unnecessary cruel.

@@JH24821 He didn't really _like_ playing the evil part-most of the "joy" he derived from this was just a way to distract himself from his trauma. And he regrets the cruelty the Core pushed upon him-he felt like it was his only option to please the mind hive, whom he didn't fully realize wasn't worth impressing until well into the episode just before the finale.
@@jjtheraccoon61 Doing it as a distraction doesn't excuse him. Andrias betraying Marcy to get the box charged can be connected to pleasing his father and seeking to redeem himself; but destroying Marcy's friendship with Anne and Sasha and enjoying every moment of it was needlessly cruel. He tried to kill Polly and he would have killed Sprig if it hadn't been for Marcy.

… and yet, this was the first time in my life I audibly gasped watching something.
Andrias is both manipulative b evil but at the same time, I think he managed to be misunderstood. He just wanted to get his dads approval for his giant mistake, he had to watch how his city fell from greatness. It’s kinda sad.

Wait I just noticed that when Andrias rose from the fall he took to take on the rebellion, he sounded like metal which might have foreshadowed his cybernetic implants.
As much as I kind of hate Andrias for what he did (stabbing Marcy, dropping Sprig out the window, etc), he's such a great villain and his redemption in All In and The Hardest Thing is awesome.

Something I really like about king Andreas is that he doesn’t go the typical villain route of a suicide redemption where he sacrifices himself to redeem himself. He actually lives and pays out his sentences for his crimes. You rarely see that in any media where the big bad tries to redeem themselves in the end, they always go that sacrificing themselves route which o think is kind of a cop out at this point.
