I would monitor the situation to see where the rain and water pools. This is your first winter and from that you can gauge where to put barns and gravel etc...if you put a barn in a low spot you may have a flooded unit because of the run off.... I would see what the land does for now and tackle it when it's dry in the spring...gives you more time to save money up for the project as well!
It’s now 2025 here in Australia, hoping it’s going to be a better year. Just think a few months ago you were praying for rain! That’s the thing about country living you can’t have perfect conditions all the time. HAPPY NEW YEAR 🦋🙏🎆🎇🫶🇦🇺
For the Gravel you need to put larger rocks as a base and then you can put smaller rocks going up. You can put the smallest rock on top so it will be easier to level and drive on.
I don’t know what you call it in America but it’s the rock they use to make kitty litter. It’s very absorbent and will compact to help level the mud patches and then you can put you other gravel on top. This is what you should be looking at so you can dry things out a bit first. If you go with the heavy larger gravel straight up you are probably going to need more which puts more weight on underground pipes , you will also find you’ll need to use more which will hurt the back pocket $$$$$🥺😢🤯
You could build a hay rack that was long enough for all the cows. My dad used to build his own and put it on runners so he could move it when the area got muddy.
Hi Jay and Charlotte! I laid down at 5:30 to watch a video and woke up at 8:30. 😂 I missed all my favorite channels! I have to jump on a live here in a few so I’ll be back to watch this in a bit! ❤
I don’t know anything about rocks but my son’s started with 3” rock then layered smaller rock. They leveled the ground first too. This is what I saw them do to my driveway too.
Hi Jay and Charlotte, Happy New Year 2025. Just found your channel through this video. Don't be too hard yourself for making mistakes as long as you learn from the whole experience.
Hey Ben, Thanks for joining us!! We appreciate the support. I am learning that process of not being to hard on myself lol but yes definitely always learning
Slow down and think about it. When I built my home the cement truck started sinking and the driver went to close to the edge and the truck when on its side into the muck. Anyway when the sent a row truck out and because he had a full load of concrete they ripped the axle of the truck. The owner was really angry, it was a new truck….I was in a muddy mess for a few months. Take care…❤
@ no it was the drivers fault because you could clearly see the pit, but he cut it tight and slid in the mud. The weight of the cement pulled the truck right in. Made a horrible mess out of the construction drive. Plus he never got to unload all the concrete. The truck was trashed…lol
we bought the bale craddle from tractor supply to keep ours off the ground but they aren't made very well. It's moveable by hand when its empty so I'm probably going to build another one in the near future thats heavier but on skids so we can drag it with the tractor. What type of hay do y'all feed? Also gravel directly on ground as a single layer. Around here we use (57 stone) by the truck. Just your basic driveway gravel.
Great video thanks for sharing my friends happy new years cant wait to see wat it has for yall next year. Hey jay i know u said you're not buying cows next year i bet by june u will have some new ones. Lol
Jay, you said at the 10:12 mark, this is your first winter here? Were you not living on the property last winter, since your 1st Anniversary on the ranch was last October! Hmmmmmmmm 😮
Do you really want to put your barn on top of the water line? What if it needs to be fixed again for some reason? Just a thought. I would maybe rake or shovel some of the mounds of dirt and level it out some without driving on it right now.
Jay you have to respect the seasons and elements. Don’t try to put bandages on things that help for five minutes until the weather changes again. It’s good to have plans but you need to think how long before I’m going to be bringing trucks and trailers in to move cattle! If it’s not going to be during this dilemma then don’t waste money, you have time. I hope that when I look at you 12 months down the track you have learnt to chill and not be a bull at a gate. Practice your delayed gratification Jay. 🦋🙏🫶🇦🇺
@ I hope I wasn’t harsh on you Jay but it’s better to be Proactive rather than Reactive. Remember you only have certain hours in the / week as you are working hard so you can get all the projects done ,because money is needed. Look at what you’ve achieved in 12 months now make your list prioritise put rough estimate cost beside it and make it happen when the money is there for that project. Love you guys and I’ve been following you now since not long after you started and I’m looking forward to your future journey.🦋🙏🫶🇦🇺🐂🐃
Beautiful day, land, herd & scenery.❤🎉😊❤
She just looked at you with a mouth full of hay. Like it’s not wasted I’m eating it 😂. So cute. Happy New Year everyone 🎉 💕🙏
I know they try to make me feel better when I mess up lol 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Then plant grass, and during spring bring Rock to make a road to drive on for you to go further out into the pasture

Appreciate that!! Do you think sand or something under the large gravel would be good?
@@AlgiereHomestead Hi Jay, Sand underneath would definitely be good and would help with drainage.
Happy New Year Jay, Charlotte and other Algiere fam.❤🎉😊

Happy New Year!!!
❤❤❤JAY❤❤❤❤❤. Ask Chad what he used on his 20 acres as it was some 300 feet and the gravel he used sets up like cement..
I’ll have to ask him

@AlgiereHomestead I know yall have babies on the ranch but by June I bet u see some u wanna buy. If I was closer I buy them for u lol
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Happy New Year!! Good to see you Dawn
Back to rolling hay down the hill
For sure. Hopefully when this mud dries up a bit!!
Jay, you said at the 10:12 mark, this is your first winter here? Were you not living on the property last winter, since your 1st Anniversary on the ranch was last October! Hmmmmmmmm 😮
First winter with Cattle and equipment!! Good clarification there Kat!!
Rock truck might be to heavy right now cause of the mud
Ahhh very good point!! 🤔

Agreed, The plan was to put it further back not right on top of the water line. But we do need to level it out for sure.
Time to invest in a couple hay rings or cradles.
I’m considering it
Bring dirt and grade it to run off down the hill
its not wasted its conditioning the soil, x
Yes that is true just right now I need as much of it as I can get lol
You put Rock and then you got a packet down drive on it for a while and then you got to put more rock and pack it down
Sounds like a lot of rock!!! 😂😂
What Breed of Cow is Titus the Bull? He sure has a beautiful White fluffy coat.
He is a HighPark - Highland x White Park cross
Not now if you flatten it out now the tractor is going to sink and bust pipe again Rock pad with the barn
Yeah it’s a mess up there for sure
@@AlgiereHomestead just remember to take a breath smell the roses blow the candles out. And then get it done
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy new year!!
before you order gravel your grown my not be able to support a gravel truck loaded with gravel
Very god point!! Didn’t think of that! Thank you!! 🙏🏼
If you spread it out you will get more rats in the mud. You need to just step back take a breath quit being a perfectionist.
😂😂😂 trust me it’s the battle I have with myself all the time
