As it has been pointed out in the comments, the passive power generation method of surrounding the heat generator with lava is most likely your best bet while crafting your first turbine / solar panel. While it may be a much slower than constantly feeding coal into the generator, chances are you wont have nearly enough coal to even make one (as shown in the video here lol).
I will be sure to keep that in mind and cover it when we get there :) the digital miner is very high on my list of to-do's once we have the resources since its so useful, so it shouldnt be a long wait.
I'm not even halfway into the video, and I'm already understanding! People usually explain rather vaguely, so it's easy for me to get overwhelmed at the huge amount of information and I usually have to watch the video a few times before fully getting the grasp of it, but you've been explaining very slowly and in a very detailed way! Thank you!! It is rare to find a tutorial/explanation video as understandable as this, I really appreciate how accessible you made this, so even a newbie like me can understand :]
Every time I need to do anything Mek, I find myself back here. This series is great, thank you SO MUCH for all of the work you put into this, it's extremely helpful.
Him: If you use wind generators then you'd need to place them high up and make lots of cables to bring the power back down to the machines. Me who built my base on the top of a huge mountain: I don't have such weaknesses.
After sifting through so many guides (especially one that was for generators) I landed on yours. Obviously, no guide is perfect, but you did an amazing job explaining everything. The best part of Mekanism to me was the technical side and understanding how and why they work (and sometimes why it DIDNT work!), and no one went into that level of detail with every structure they've built and also did a damn good job keeping on track. Mekanism can be quite annoying with it's quirks, but I do enjoy it regardless as any mod can have this, and it really isn't that easy to do as far as over powered goes... If the time sync wasnt worth the reward ... Anyway, before I prattle on just wanted to say thank you for the level of detail and the guide as a whole!
Thanks for this series. I am new to modded and have popped in and out of your videos. In order to get up and running, I made the needed parts for one of the four solar generators. I then used that small generator to prepare the materials necessary for the remaining three. I was able to get by on about a stack and a half of coal. I used planks for all ore smelting. I prefer the Immersive Engineering Blast Furnace and Coke Oven, so that I how I got my steel.
I think that you should have used the pasive mode of the heat generator, with the lava along the sides, it is slow, but enough for the early and so much cheaper
Agreed. The heat generator in passive mode is my usual goto starter power generation, especially since they're so cheap. Make one to make steel for power cabling, and then you can start creating ghetto multiblock structures with massed heat generators, each surrounded on five sides by lava. I don't usually make more than four heat generators though, but that's enough to tech straight to wind generator. I like wind generators over solar because I find wind generators are more straightforward and easier to make, as well as being able to run night and day.
It is definitely a good option very early as it is significantly cheaper than both the wind turbine and advanced solar generator :) I most likely should have gone with it even to just make the solar generator as I do have lava readily available nearby, but I do prefer to move to the solar gen or wind turbine asap, especially since we need the extra power for next episode!
That awesome! The series will hopefully be one of the longest on the channel by the end as there is a TON to cover when you include all prior Mekanism stuff and the new additions in v10.
I literally love this mod. And I love how you make your content and your voice. I'm so happy, I missed mekanism and you. You haven't been in my recommendation for so long.
As someone playing the DW20 with as much as I can only Mekanism, this is nice to see as a really fun tutorial. Also, someone told me rushing digital miner and power is broken.... And it is and I love it
In Mekanism v9 I craft a wind turbine first before switching to Solar just to avoid the need for a lot of coal/charcoal early. I get an enrichment chamber before going solar to limit the redstone and carbon usage in the metallurgic infuser.
Getting an enrichment chamber going to get more bang for your buck out of both coal and redstone is definitely a good way to go with how much of it you can burn through early :) great suggestion!
Hmmm, I was looking round the other day for a tutorial of some info about this mod. And found this play list, everything I was wondering about either got explained or shown as proof of concept. Thanks =D
Yes, the Configurator is the wrench for this mod and you use it to rotate machines and change settings on pipes and such. I gotta say, looking at that name and the name of so many other machines in this mod..... (Rotary Condensentrator anyone?) I remain convinced that the developer of Mekanism originally wanted to make a steampunk mod, and the names of the machines reflect this desire. I firmly believe this.
Great video! I love your let's play series. Keep on going! Now the sad thing: I already played mekanism 10 through and really liked playing along with you 🙁
Hey Rage, not sure if you'll see this comment. I learned IC2, Botania, and Mekanism through your videos, as I like the way you present the features (man I wish you taught my university classes... but I think you're younger than I am XD) and your pacing is just about perfect. Looking forward to this new series as Aidan added a ton of new stuff including fission power. Now for the binge-watch. ETA1: I gotta say tho, I was unpleasantly surprised when I threw a charcoal block into a heat gen and only got a tiny smidge of power out of it. ETA2: I took 3 semesters of engineering and physics, and no one even bothered with rankine units. Let's call it an interesting Easter egg. ETA3: I did find the new bronze recipe very cool. Compressed tin? Very Mekanism.
Haha I do see your comment! Glad you have made it through all those mod series, that’s a lot of info to take in. And yea watching stacks and stacks of coal disappear as I crafted in the beginning because I didn’t wanna use passive generation with lava surrounding it (yep, stupid move) made me shed a tear or two lol. Also if ya live in the US happy thanksgiving! If not, happy random Thursday!
@@RagePlaysGames It looks like Aidan changed it so that the passive mode (lava bath) for the heat gen is way better than tossing fuel into it. I have a single heat generator with 4 lava blocks around it, and it's running an enrichment chamber with no upgrades without any power loss, which would be impossible in Mekanism 9.
I...by mistake...found out that you can also put lava inside the Heat Generator as well as all around the sides. If you click the lava bucket in just the right spot, the lava will flow on the inside of the machine giving you 6 heat sources instead of just 5.
As far as renewable energy sources go, the best is probably the hydrogen generator. You need a small amount of power to get it running, and then it can sustain itself and produce excess power. All it requires is a pump, electrolytic separator, and the generator itself
For the first grind for the carbon fuel for the geat generator we can get 2 lava storing tanks and fill it with lava bucket . it is very cheaper and easy.

Hi, i just want to ask if the mekanism for 1.12.2 is the same with this. Is there any additional content? Or is it just update for version compatibility
Make sure you have all the mekanism addons listed in the description. Majority of the generators aren’t included in base mekanism and requires an additional file.
did you know if you face lava in the 5 non utile faces of the heat generator it produces max power infinite? 29rf max i think and can be done just with one bucket of lava per generator
i have the same version of the mod and the heat generator textures is corrupted (the purple and black texture) what to do? the same with the cables also digital miner and almost half of the itmes

Make sure you have all the Mekanism mods as majority of the things like the solar gen dont come from the base mod and actually come from the additional Mekanism addons.
Anyone else have the "The specified path, file name, or both are too long." issue when trying to install the modpack? Almost all mods work fine but for some reason Surviving with Mekanism spits out that error when trying to install. I'd use another mod that includes these ones but they take forever to load and I'd like to keep my fps above 60
I said nobody uses Rankine, which is mostly true since its Fahrenheit's substitute in engineering heat calculations. It is much more common for Celsius to be used as the base and Kelvin to be used as its substitute. I think I used Rankine once in a thermodynamics class simply to learn what it was and never touched it again lol.
The two comments above me are spam comments for a virus that will infect your PC.
I just ended up grabbing the 4 redstone 4 iron "bucket" which fills up the lava to 16, then bucketing that into the heat maker thing.
was just about to comment that but then I saw this
Another good idea is to just get the one solar panel and then use the panel to power everything else
when you get to the digital miner, a good explanation for how you set the filters like using `tag` and others
It was a pain to find out for me too.. **iron*, *diamond*, *ore** etc... That is how I use it.
I will be sure to keep that in mind and cover it when we get there :) the digital miner is very high on my list of to-do's once we have the resources since its so useful, so it shouldnt be a long wait.

Most of the world uses Celsius:)
He said nobody uses Rankin, not Celsius
I said nobody uses Rankine, which is mostly true since its Fahrenheit's substitute in engineering heat calculations. It is much more common for Celsius to be used as the base and Kelvin to be used as its substitute. I think I used Rankine once in a thermodynamics class simply to learn what it was and never touched it again lol.
Can't seem to make Solar Panels - My recipe does not ask for Glass Panels but for "Solar Panel (Starter)" which does not seen to have a recipe for
Hmm mekanism is back
I don't have a heat generator! was it removed in the latest version?
Make sure you have all the mekanism additions listed in the description including mekanism generators :)
for some reason when i smelt the iron in the metallurgic infuser, i only get enriched alloy? anyone know how to fix that?
@RagePlayGames Have you thought of incorporating JustEnoughCalculation in your modpacks? I've found it very useful with these big tech mods.

I'm not sure if any one else does it but i get what I need to make a wind generator +the machines you need and I just use Redstone as the power source
