I'm confused. If your understaffed then why would you tie up resources by posting officers up outside the shooters house for 5 days? If you don't know how to deal with this situation then call in the agency that does. Allowing a recovering victim to be homeless because the man who shot him won't come outside to be arrested is unacceptable.

      @naivejeffersonian 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

First: I'm not surprised that you're confused. Second: It's 'you're understaffed". And third: There is a damned if you do/damned if you don't political environment that activists and the city council have created that make it almost impossible to respond to a situation like this. Sawchuk is holed up in his house and refuses to come out. He's known to have a gun and if they barge in with swat and they shoot this mentally ill man, it's another bad headline for police. What can you reasonably expect around de-escalation tactics in this scenario?

blame the dang minneapolis city councils. They are the ones who want to defund the police and yet have no real solution to solving crimes. Then they cried and bit*h about things not being solved when they caused this mess.

@@naivejeffersonian Ah hell with it, I'll jump into this.
My point of contention is the perceived difference in reactions from the Police. First off, I agree with many of the aspects that the Chief has outlined. Being understaffed, more frequent call outs and justified increased scrutiny of you and your team will result in a decline in quality and quantity. However he even admits he's failed in this specific situation. So his solution is to continue to doing exactly what he's been doing and is hoping for a different outcome. Remember, has been ongoing for several months with this specific victim and ongoing for several years overall.
I'll side step the George Floyd aspect but you know, why didn't he get this level of treatment?
What about in 2015 when they arrested Hamza Jeylani and outright said "if you fuck with me I'll break your legs" and followed up with "I arrested you because I felt like it". Why didn't he get this level of de-escalation?
How about when two Minneapolis officers got caught on camera saying ""What is that? Green Bay is too nigger friendly." Later on this officer was involved in a lawsuit against the City related to he and other officers severely beating an African American man in 2010. The suit was settled with Minneapolis paying the victim $235,000.
      Assault of Mohammad Osman?
      Shooting of Jamar Clark?
But now since its a "mentally ill" (not sold on that but I'll resend that thought if proven otherwise, personally I think he's just a racist asshole too scared to leave his house) white dude now they can wait months and months to properly de-escalate the situation and only now admit they failed immediately after this guy literally threatens to kill and quickly follows up on that threat only then do they say "we're running out of options and are still looking for solutions" and suspiciously after news article are written up to their detriment.
To sum up, when a Police department has been written up by the Justice Department and found systemic abuses by the police that “made what happened to George Floyd possible” (Justice Department's words, not mine) then they follow up with showing the racist, gun toting and mentally ill white guy all the patience in the world I gotta call Bullshit. A month? Maybe two? Ok, yes appropriate. Nearly a year and only after he shot someone? Stop making excuses and go in guns blazing, if it was the chief's neighbor who was shot you can bet your next pay cheque SWAT would've been there same day if not sooner.

@@naivejeffersonianExactly, Minneapolis abolished No-knock warrants, in the case of mental illness, they have to call Social workers and Violence interrupters and make danger assessments, all this rubber stamped by the city council and the citizens, now they gotta live with it.

He's too distracted trying to re-arrest criminals that Moriarty books and releases, so resources are spread thin. Can't be in two places at once. Moriarty is actively making police's jobs more difficult, and Hennepin County more dangerous.

Citizens want “less force” for innocent people or people accused of minor nonviolent infractions not someone shooting their neighbor. This guys is a poor excuse for a man much less a police chief. No full accountability just “yea we may have been wrong but you as the public are wrong too”. Just own up to the fact you didn’t arrest a man who literally tried to murder his neighbor then stood on that decision until people started calling you out.

Anybody that reads the history of this neighbor feud could of predicted this would happen particularly bc the perpetrator had threatened his neighbor with a gun before. There are receipts. You can't get around it. And yes most people believe in deescalation UNTIL someone gets shot. If he's firing out of a window everyone is at risk. Smh.

All I hear are excuses. You are understaffed because of your corruption. It’s not some poof of smoke that came out of thin-air. Chief, you need to be held accountable. On a side note I love how online chief said he’s “disgusted” by comments to his new minority officers. All this is, is a way to deflect hate towards the police and make the people attack each other and pity the police. It is absolutely disgusting and such deception from a knowingly racist department is just despicable.

  • @madelyn2796

No wonder y’all are understaffed. Who would want to work for this joker? He’s mumbling all kinds of stuff to himself under his breath on this hot mic. Can someone enhance the audio on this video so we can hear what he’s mumbling?
Obviously citizens want less swat and deadly force for the nonviolent crimes and the reckless no knock warrants. This man shot someone!!! It’s completely different. Do the citizens need to spell out when the use of swat is appropriate and when it isn’t? This is pathetic.
