Also, you could sew stitches to your decorative paper then glue directly onto the book pages if you want a sewn trim around your pages. This has given me so many WONDERFUL ideas. Thanks for sharing!
This just popped up on my feed this morning and I needed this. My hubby's caregiver wants a journal for her 90 yr old mother. She is Native American and wants it natural, earth tones. I found a picture album that is hand made. I want to build on it with her favorite things. I need to see this video today. Thank you.
As a person who makes leather bound journals, and sells them, I really appreciate the fact that you don't take the journals apart! The tips for how to add things like tabs, or pockets, are great, and really good thinking! I like your ideas! ~Janet in Canada
FABULOUS idea or I should say ideas!!!!! I am so glad everyone shares ideas so freely!!! Sometimes I go in my craft room and just sit and feel no creativity. I watch YT and get inspired by you lovely ladies that share ideas with the rest of us!!!!!!!
During the summer months, I am in the garden and greenhouse, as we grow a lot of our food. During the winter months I have more time for tutorials and crafty videos. :-)
I love these journals. A few years ago when I started making jj's, I bought a pocket size blank journal like this and made it my Mushroom forage journal. I filled it with a few pictures, dates, times, (secret) places where I find morels, spring ramps, chanterelles, chicken of the woods, maitake, berries, etc. I was able to sew some outside pages with a zigzag stich which gave it some extra interest. I love how you put the tabs in. I'd like to try this! Thank you so much for inspiration and sharing.
So cool! I recently found a leather bound journal at Goodwill - the kind with a leather wrap-around strap for a closure and brown kraft paper pages. I didn't want to take it all apart to give it that junk journal feel and this idea will really help. Thanks!
Been doing this for years now Liz. Mostly for myself and friends. It is so much easier than how you girls do it here on U-tube. Never have done a leather one. but have done a lot of just blank page type sketchbooks. I decorate the front and back cover. Put some pockets on the inside of the front and back covers. Do a bit of decorating on some pages and you have a very nice journal or commonplace book. I think these leather ones would be good for men. Thank you for sharing!!!
And that's why you are the Queen..... great idea thanks for sharing. I am spending the day with some friends on Saturday to finish up a couple of my journals and will use this method for one book and the tabs. Happy week to you my dear.
Genius idea! I have 3 sons, six daughters, plus their significant others, 24 gkids (18 are boys 1yr to 27yrs.) You have solved my male room gifts plus my house spouse of 53 years is obsessed with FISHING. So his tags will have charms of his hooks and bobbles!
I have done this to even those little inspirational books and cards- i have added pockets and belly bands to add interest and texture - these make great gifts. TFS
What a fantastic idea. I was just making a planner journal for my daughter and was just gluing the lace directly to the tops and sides of the planner. This is a great way to sew lace and add with the extra paper tabs. A more finished look. Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea.
Such a great idea, Liz! I bought my little book at Hobby Lobby today . I can't wait to play! Thanks for all you do for the community.. you're such a pleasure.
What a lovely and quick gift for someone! I actually have a few of those leather bound journals- and you are right- they are very inexpensive! Love this idea, thank you so much for sharing this idea!
Fantastic idea, you've boosted my creative thoughts with your great video, I have a journal that would look amazing with this technique applied to it, Thankyou xxx
Thank you. I found them on Amazon by searching leather journals. The paper inside was not advertised to be different, but just happened to come that way. :-)
Fabulous idea! I finished a journal before I did any stitching - just because I wanted to finally get it done! This lets me get some stitching done LOL! Those are fabulous results!11
