I love this film and have analyzed it from multiple different perspectives including the cycle of violence in humanity, domestic abuse, and trauma response. This is an interesting take, connecting it to the condition of the artist. Multiple times I’ve sat through the film and couldn’t help but find his outbursts when distracted, slightly relatable when creating. As a writer and creator, that feeling can be mutual most especially when you’re struggling with writers block or simply being uninspired. This is a fresh perspective amongst the thousands of video essays on the Shining, even though it should be painfully clear when first viewing the movie. But, often gets ignored when most people either talk about the mind bogglingly shallow and borderline comedic theories about the Shining (moon landing theory, anything from the awful room 237 documentary). Keep up the nice work!
Would be kind of funny if Jack was a painter and he spent his time replacing all the framed artwork in the hotel with his own creations and paints over the artwork on the walls and the windows...not unlike the Joker character he played that messed up a museum.
This is not a movie about an artist. No art was ever created before or during the movie. This is a movie about a relatively high IQ screw up. It's not all his fault. He probably was born that way and has been screwing up all his life.
I don't mean 'artist' as a painter specifically but moreso as an umbrella term for people who create things in general, which includes novels which he is seen writing.
