Great stuff Matt. Love the non league and any football without VAR. Its proper football. Lets hope for a good season for the gills next season. Well done. UTG. ...Dave.......Norwich
Good to hear from you Norwich Dave, with the Gills news today I think we now have a better chance next season 👍🏻⚽️
Another great video Matt. As a Clarets ST holder for many, many years it is fair to say the play offs are not happy times...our record is something like 2 games won in 17 in the playoffs. Feels like the only way out will be to win it but that feels less and less likely each year with the amount of money being thrown around in these leagues currently.
As for the ground, you've experienced the joys of the Gulag. The terracing behind the goals were designed and built from funds raised by the Supports Club and are the one asset that makes it bearable to go and watch.
History wise, had a lovely old ground in the town, club gets run into the ground in the 80s, ground gets sold off for housing development (what a surprise) and we spend the next 10 years homeless (1 year ground sharing with Maldon and 9 with Billericay) before returning to MP.
We all know we need our own ground to really kick on and bring back more fans who refuse to attend matches at MP but the chances of that still remain slim to none with little support from the council (nor desire from those in charge at the club so it seems).
Lived in Chelmsford when a teenager. Saw them win the league in 1971 went to every home game. Finished above Hereford who got voted into the league. Still grates even now, that was when our big opportunity to be a league club went. Council never supported us. Did the long jump once at Melbourne stadium.. Can't believe they play there now.
As run down as it was I loved it at New Writtle Street, and it was a better ground than some have in the non leagues today. Still now remember as a teen going to every home game in the 88-89 season.
Even got to play in a 5 a side tournament on the NWS pitch as a kid, which was epic at the time, felt like a proper footballer for the day.
Thanks William, seems a shame with a city the size of Chelmsford, there is not that much difference in size between you and Colchester. Had a feeling there would have been a lack of backing by the local authority!
Great video...really enjoyed it!
Thanks Allan 👍🏻⚽️
Great video Matt. Looking fwd to the Worthing/Maidstone one tomorrow. Up the Gills!
Thanks Barry UTG 👍🏻
Enjoyed the video, we covered the Chelmsford v Torquay game, a shame it ended this way for them
Yes, they always struggle to get over the final hurdle
Never been to Chelmsford, but went to Braintree in February nice unique ground and friendly people. Keep up the good work 👌 with your videos.
Thanks Pluto, another north Essex side need to give Colchester a run for their money 👍🏻⚽️
COYI Braintree 💪
Good luck for the final 👍🏻⚽️
Nearly 4000 subs Matt. You're doing well. 👍
Thanks Arthur, have now just surpassed it 👍🏻🎉🥳
Good stuff Matt….glad it wasn’t raining !
Thanks Jeremy but it did start raining at the end of the video as I was walking to my car 🌧️☔️
Great video mate hopefully can catch you tomorrow
Thanks Lee, I will be in the home end tomorrow 👍🏻⚽️
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 same here will see you then
That bread pudding looks very nice. Very nice indeed. Yum yum.
Do love a bit of bread pudding, I can spend a fortune in a bakery 👍🏻🧁🍰
Nice video Matt!
Thanks Keggs?
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 haha skeggs is the surname
I'm sure you guys will go up eventually, you lot thumped us on boxing day and nyd.
Chelmsford seem to be the bridesmaids and never the bride
Nice place, lovely people, only half an hour from London on the train but it's kept its own identity. Good luck next season from Wearside.
They will be top 5 again, they always are 👍🏻⚽️
Puff puff on twitter will be happy. 😮
Not many matches happening next weekend on May 4th. 😅

Chelmsford have never been in the Conference/National League, they almost got elected into the FL in the days when they could be from the Southern League (before I was born). I spent many days watching Chelmsford City when they played in the Town Centre (as it was then) next to the Cricket Ground.
Since I moved away from Chelmsford I have only been a couple of times to Melbourne Stadium with my Dad and I don't like it either (although it is a better facility that it was before they moved in). There was talk of a stadium north of the town near Boreham/Beaulieu Park but that never happened. Fingers crossed that with the consistency someone will try to build them a new stadium and they can push on up. I understand that Melbourne is not suitable for the NL anyway so would probably have to groundshare with Braintree or Billericay,
All those new developments in Chelmsford over the years (Chelmer Village etc) and no room for a new ground, sad really, thanks for your comments 👍🏻⚽️
Thanks to the council Chelmsford always get held back it’s in our history
That’s annoying, Chelmsford is quite an affluent area that could sustain a decent ground and some decent crowds 👍🏻⚽️
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 used to have a lovely ground at new writtle street
Proper football club and fans, respect 👊🏾
Yes, they deserve a tidy little ground 👍🏻
What's your prediction for next season Matt?
Thanks Matt, for what team and what division? 👍🏻⚽️
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 Nat League South
@@mattlipsis5016I’m probably going to be doing a prediction video in the summer for all the national leagues, need to do a bit of research but Maidstone surely must be favourites
Its not great feeling 😢
That looks like a Barnet badge, oh dear
It kind of feels like you are going to an athletics carnival and not the football.
To be fair the atmosphere with the crowd was spot on 👍🏻
I bet if they didn't apply for promotion they'd win the league knowing their luck 😂. Feel sorry for their fans
It seems none of the fans are happy with the ground set up
Yes, athletic stadiums do make it a hard watch for footy fans. Chelmsford made as good as job as any other club with one.
Try Gateshead...
Yes, I have been pre-warned about Gateshead several times 👍🏻
A pet hate of yours, trying going every week ffs
It’s a bit embarrassing when you have to tell fans you can’t stand in that corner because of the Hammer Net.
Just think on that, who else would have to write the words Hammer Net on a football video.
I feel your pain Darren, however the atmosphere at the ground was pretty decent 👍🏻
You're a groundhopper and seem personable, so what's with the abject bias? Braintree have had two spells in conference national this century, a proper club with a proper football stadium with a capacity of over 4000.
Thanks Phil, not biased but I was in the home end and the video was covering Chelmsford, when I visit Braintree in the future I will cover your ground with the same enthusiasm 👍🏻 I did congratulate you guys at the end of the video 👍🏻⚽️
I think to be part of the greatest league in the world every team must have a minimum capacity of 30,000 then the Top 3 in the championship must seek election by FA Premier League once election has been granted to the championship teams then they must play in a two-leg playoff against the teams who finished in bottom Three of Premiership so quick example 18 v 1 19 v 2 20 v 3.
I’ve missed you Issac, you have been quiet for a few weeks 👍🏻⚽️
