As an old guy who started skating in the early nineties, I can definitely confirm there's barely anyone street skating today compared to then. You would go in the city on any day of the week and see groups of skaters now I rarely see any. Big reason would be the amount and quality of the parks, I wish we had the super smooth concrete parks that exist today. I quit skating for 20 years because I got sick getting shredded up every time I fell off, started again a couple years back and will not be hitting the streets.
Yeah dude, it's definitely changed a lot since the birth of all these amazing skateparks everywhere! As long as you're out there having fun now, then that's what it's all about 🙌🏼
Wasn’t all about filming was about all meeting up and session and meet ya mates before phones. And more community and the younger skaters could have somewhere to learn and respect no scooters. That being said mad how many parks there are now. 90s had very few and a heavy street skating vibe in Sydney Barely anyone had a camera
Love seeing the growth of your channel and the content you share. The wheelbase, skate setups, product reviews have been my favorite videos. It’s also cool seeing your ledge/rail game in action. Also, the background of the city looks super nice. 👌
Thank you man, glad I can help for sure 🙏🏼 That's definitely not going to stop, that's my favourite things to skate lol Thanks! I thought it looked better when I first set up the shot but it still looks pretty cool 👌🏼
Hey mate! congrats dude on the 10k! Massive ty for all your content and giving us fans ( yes we are fans!) help and great useful knowledge throughout your vids... i dig em... Was such a great time skating with you and the boys at Kariong the other day... your homies are awesome people ( shoutout to Mikey and Guy) and it was such a relaxed sesh... watching you guys shred it was so surreal... and so so good. The next day i ended up going over the front and busting my ribs which sux so bad... i got 6 weeks before they heal properly , but hey... that happens in skating... Eggs till the end buddy and thx so much again. Benny
Hey Benny, so goods meeting you the other day and I'm still so jealous you have that park as your local! lol Haha thanks man, glad you're enjoying my stuff 🙌🏼 Hey you were shredding too! Damn that sucks man, hopefully you heal up quick 🙏🏼

@@LeonPaxton Northern CA, so basically about a 7 hour drive from where you’re gonna be going, I’ll be out there in November for a few days but I doubt you’ll be around that soon
Interesting question about street skating. My original stint was 1991-2006. All we ever skated was street. That was it. It meant getting busted, harassed and kicked out often. We generally skated at night or at schools or other areas on Sunday away from people. We didn’t enjoy the conflict at all. A couple of skateparks opened towards the later part of my time and we visited them, however I really struggled with the chaotic nature of parks and the confined space. Fast forward to 2024. I’m 48 now and skating again, but this time I’m only skating parks. There’s so many good ones and it suits my desire perfectly - no stress, good vibes, awesome parks and a good way to relearn and progress. However. For me, street skating is that - skating the streets. It comes with its own set of challenges and skills. It certainly suited my misfit youth personality of the day and is something I truly relished. Some of the spots still exist, so I’m keen to head back and wax them up for old times sake. Ultimately though, if you skate, you’re my friend. I don’t care what level you’re at or what surface you’re hitting. Skating is an amazing way to connect people and I love the positive vibes of the skatepark now more than most things. And yeah - 10k Leon!!
Yeah dude, so many people come from that exact same era from you but they can't seem to see the positives in having nice new skateparks these days lol It does man, street skating is something else entirely, it really tests the physical and mental limits of a skater but it feels so damn good to accomplish a good trick in the streets when everything is stacked against you! Dude, that is the message right there! I still have life long friends from when I first started and keep meeting sick new people every time I skate 🙌🏼 Thank you man, I'm so grateful for this 🥳
i kinda tuned out of skate videos when they became super tech, XX-stair rails, superhuman stuff. my favorite era of videos is early '90s. real DIY, kinda jank, kinda sketchy, a lot of footage in strip mall parking lots and parking garages. really just felt like filming with your friends.
Skateboarding is a leisure/recreational activity that has a culture and industry and it can be a hobby and a sport. Skateparks are not 'killing' street skateboarding. Skateparks are not stopping anyone street skateboarding. What is stopping street skateboarding are the removal of street spots and street obstacles, and things like obstacles being installed to stop street skating and security guards to a degree. The only way skateparks can 'kill' street skateboarding is if they're building lots of skateparks on top of/over street spots. You can always make time to skate, even if it's only for like 30 minutes a week. I was/did the same with learning Kickflips.
Exactly 🙌🏼 That's true! Although there are always new spots being built and discovered at the same time 👌🏼 Haha dude, I think the kids these days just try and kickflip straight away without learning how to properly push, turn and stop as well lol
Thanks Leon for answering my questions. When it comes to difference in trucks I've noticed next: Independent trucks are king of all trades master of none but are beafier than Thunders so they can make deeper groves and last longer on concrete ledges. Industry standard. Thunders might be the best overall for skateparks because they are way thiner and lighter which makes sessions longer and is more suitable for waxed metal rails and coping. Aces are probably the best for bowl skating because of their sharp turn and short wheelbase. Tensor Maglights are so light that they might be the best for young kids and older skateboards who are not jumping high because honestly that magnesium alloy is bending easily although grinfld amazingly smooth and well. Ventures are probably the best for downhill, jumping stairs and gaps because they are not turning as much and have such structural design that their hangers can barely bend. Mini Logos are very underrated hybrid that has geometry like Indys but are low as Venture Lows, weight and turns like Thunders and has a wheelbase as Aces.
Of course man, thanks for the great questions! Damn, thanks so much for the info, people will love to hear that 👌🏼 Would you go Stage 4 hangers or Stage 11 hangers on the Indy Inverted Kingpin base plates?
the clearance will probably be better with stage 4. the clearance on mids isn't really much, if any, more than standard bc the axle is lower in the hangar.
If we had parks in the 90's, it would of been awesome TBH. I will say in Melbourne they are building to many 'average' parks. They need to put all the money into huge parks for whole areas vs lots of small parks with to many obstacles...
morayfield remind me of mac fields skate park but when you go up there try an get out to woodridge and if you get time the sunshine parks are pretty clean
dude! i had a question for ya if you don't mind: how does it feel to be so committed to a uniquely shaped board that only 1 company (for the most part) produces. as i am getting more into egg boards i have this constant hesitation in my brain to fully commit to the egg shape partly because popsicles still feel more intuitive to me and partly because im terrified of liking it so much i can never go back to popsicles (like you said in your answer to dad board) i feel like being cornered into that shape cuts out a lot of options.. what are your thoughts on it?
Dude I’m loving the egg boards! I’ve tried a few different companies but always come back to the Heroin eggs and can happily ride those forever lol Yeah man, it’s definitely subjective. You might just like to have an egg board as a secondary set up and popsicle for your main 🤷🏽♂️

Inverted kingpin is designed for stage 11, not sure if it would work well on stage 4 because of its geometry and bushings.
Damn that's true, It could be a horrible truck with the stage 4 hanger on it 😂
