- Basic Introduction into SL mesh physics.
Ways on getting the landimpact down in SecondLife, is having a simple collision model for your mesh.
First example is adding a simple physics shape to a stack of books I created in Celzium, to get the LI down.
Second example is how to make a simple 'walk-able' mesh stair.
Part 2 physics for a simple house: can be found here:

Finally a video that explains this in a simple way so that I can understand it.
Physics on my Blender builds have been a problem for me in Second Life.
Best Explanation Ever.
Thanks Elout. A well done and very useful tutorial. Thanks so much! I've recently begun creating an apartment unit for SL in Autodesk 3D Max. The collision model was something I didn't really know how to do properly until I saw your video. Wonderful!
its a Awesome video thanks. can you help me. to show how you export from models from blender or other software you create this model
ugh haven't been around SL for the last few years. Not sure how it works right now. This was posted in 2012; I guess things have changed. Some basic things still are the same I hope. A lot of people posted also tutorials; on how to do this I hope.
@@elout thanks for your reply and i will search. though its was old videos but it helpful and great one. thanks have a safe and beautiful time.
I use firestorm viewer and there, on the physics tab, Step 2 Analyse there isn't choices besides Default, and the Step 3 doesn't present a valid choice (please check this link to see picture >> prntscr.com/6apqgp
How should I proceed to make my mesh good to texture the faces separately?
Thank you
That's brilliant. Even better if I knew what you were talking about :-).
You know how to reduce the effect of LOD? The buildings that make the "maya", when I bring for the second life to distort away from the camera !!
i still don't get it. I only tried to make a test mesh. Just a flat box. But after I have uploaded it into secondlife, on one side was phantom and the other side is solid, that is cannot get thru. And I did see a triangle on it when editing. So the taller end, i couldnt get thru, but the shorter end i was able to get thru. i want to make it totally cannot pass thru. Could someone tell me how do i fix that?
how do i get authorization to upload meshes?
The way land impact is calculated has changed since this video was posted. Convert your mesh physics to prim now and the land impact goes through the roof. So the final land impact on the steps which is shown to be 2 in the vid would be more like 15 to 20 here in 2016.
+Al Keeling Thanks for your comment Al, have to experiment a bit the next time I log in.
This was awesome ty so much !!! I should have looked up tutorials sooner !!
how did you make the simple mesh box when i try it tells me i'm missing LOD
Hi Mousey, you can export a simple cube from like Celzium#00 (free at the marketplace now) then use this cube as a mesh box for physics.
I tried making a mesh cube and doing exactly what you done in the video i didn't get the option to change to retain or click simplify it was blanked out
On certain 3rd party SL viewers, like firestorm, physics was disabled for a while, can you check it with a recent SL viewer? For a box, I guess any box/cube will do, when you are able to safe a cube as .dae I think I got a .dae cube here as well elout.home.xs4all.nl/dae/
its nice but how to make physics dae and upload it from file?
Hi Duk Dux, mostly I have just a simple box/cube, I saved it as cube.dae on my HD. Use this cube, for models that really don't need a physics model.
You can load your 3D model, then..... in the Physics tab, you can also select another model 'from file', for your physics model.
And it will wrap your physics model around your 3D model,
(SL will scale the physics-model the same size as the 3D-model)
The simpler your physics model is, the lower the landimpact.
For more complicated 3D models, like a house, bridge etc. You need to make a physics model, the same size !! as your 3D model, you can use cubes or like single sided planes or triangles (from celzium #01)
But still the less models/parts you use for the physics model, can make a big difference in the LandImpact.
You can read in the comments here, for some other tips and tricks. Good luck! wish you a creative week
Elout de Kok thank you very much on help, now understand it
Thank you so much for that, it cleared up a couple of things for me!
thank you so much for this video, now to just build myself a enterable building and ill be happy xD
not so basic it may be basic for a user of blender . I'm struggling to begin to learn Blender because the terminology
Thank you, this helps! ...Should've figured it was that simple to make collision shapes, heh.
very cool i just buy one theses be good for more videos to build a small 2 bed room house be cool
hey! you save my day! tks very much!! hahaha
You can't have a physics shape if you don't select physics from the upload tab anymore.
This is a wonderful video. Thank you :-D
Thanks a lot, great video very helpful
OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!!! YOU WICKED!!!!
Thank You, this helps a lot :D
thank you
Anno 2023 this no longer works, clearly was plugged. Shame really. Thanks for the help though!
Cel has one hel of a sexy voice.
thank you thank you so very helpful and easy to understand cute accent too lol
