I really loved season 1-3.
It was a brilliant concept, the conspiracy story with Strathairn and Alda was great thrill.
But from season 4 on the whole thing turned more and more into a kind of darker "Dallas" or "Dynasty'.
I really can't stand Liz Keen anymore, the story with her child, her desperate search for the truth who is her father, is her mother alive
Boring.
It used to be one of the best TV shows ever written.

I love this show. Red is easily one of the top 10 best TV characters of all time, and that's good writing but also a testament to the gravitas James Spader brings to the role. I love how they have expounded on Dembe over the course of the series as well, developing the character and the depth of his relationship with Red. At first I thought of him as just The Muscle, but they've made him so much more. Very cool.
Same here, at first I kind of had this joke going with my mother (who I enjoy this show with) about how Dembe was the only character that mattered, but I really have grown to love and appreciate the dynamic between Dembe and Raymond, a man so innocent who is only in the darkness to protect a man so dark who is only in the darkness to protect his daughter (or whatever we're supposed to believe Raymond's relationship is with Elizabeth right now)
Same but Liz’s character is annoying. The writers have screwed her character to the point I just can’t stand her. I watch for Reddington.
Nadine Peterson nice analysis. I guess Liz character helps to spice the suspense in the movie.

Re watching just the first episode every thing makes much more sense. But of course that is the entire point of this movie one answer three questions I bet if they continue this in a few seasons every thing will make a lot more sense with season six, seven, and eight.

@Beta Sync He's NOT Ilia. That's what the past season has been about. Dom made up the Ilia story to Elizabeth and Raymond just didnt deny it to Elizabeth. But now we know that Ilia is a best friend of Raymond and now an enemy of Katarina.
Katarina could be the imposter. Why would she be trying to extract memories from Ilia that she should have already known?

He knows too many details about his Navy days with Cooper, is one reason. The burns are another reason.
With all the gene sequencing and DNA experiments used by other criminals, its possible the bones are a lie too.
Maybe Raymond and Ilia saw how dangerous Katarina was and faked his death in front of her at the house fire.

I absolutely love this show because of this man and his entire ideal of a character, a man who took on a life of crime, and became a "bad" man just to protect those he cares for. It's a shame (to me, anyways) that they keep re-doing the mystery of "is Reddington" the father, as I feel like they could do so much more but keep retreading that one storyline. I immediately though Reddington was her father within the first season (still do) and while they did trick me once or twice, I felt the revelation of him being the father was fine; I was glad they had ended that storyline to begin a new (or so, I hoped). I will continue to watch and support this show because of Raymond Reddington, his character is too iconic for me to let it go and I just love the moral question his character poses, but I wish they'd moved away from the Reddington-Elizabeth relationship.
Couldn’t agree more. They just need to make Reddington Liz’s father and leave it at that. There’s other mysterious that will keep my attention. But this back and fourth makes me give up watching the show. It’s too much.
@@nyrangersfan6325 I think the back and fourth is needed. Redd never said he's Liz father, there's a line where he said everything about me is a lie. If you understand all these details you'll know the movie is more about Elizabeth than it is about Redd.

Reddington and Elizabeth’s relationship legit is the show for the first 8 seasons. Also Raymonds actual identity is the big mystery of the entire show. Even tho it’s been revealed now that he’s actually katarini. The reason it bothers you so much is prolly Bc you fell for it when they said he was her dad. Didn’t feel right for me tho.
You found the essence of the character in his own words. A life's work erupted from a tragedy. You used the words from this character that told us how all this began and choices he made along the way and why they were made. Dembe believes he is a decent man and I believe we will find out he is decent in the end.
This was a very well organized piece of brilliance.
So true! ...yet It will be so typical of writers to make the audience wait to the very end of the series and when only moments are left in the very last episode then... they'll see fit to finally divulge the truth about Red. I would hope the writers here have more creative faith in the audience. Let us know full well the truth about Red, give Us the secret and let us celebrate who he is and why he kept his secret and from whom for so long. Give Us the heavy burden of how painful it is for him to not be open especially with Lizzy.

@@Tamia4280 I'm caught up to date - season 7, ep 10 and I must say that the whole Reddington/Elizabeth dyad has extended way too far. And now with Katarina (even if she is an imposter - as what other threads are saying in this very video clip) has gone overboard. The show should focus more on Red becoming the once-powerful-man we saw him to be before Mr. Kaplan nearly destroyed him.
There are few shows that I would consider modern masterpieces of story telling and character development. This is one of those shows

All other characters' development throughout the show sucked. Mr. Kaplan would be an exception along with Tom Keen probably and Dembe. The rest of the characters were plain awful. The only reason this show was worthy of watching was Reddington's character (possibly even development) and James Spader's acting of it.

@@03PaK the plot itself is awesome, the maneuvers and string-pulling Reddington does is cleverly put together by the writers, the Blacklisters are also interesting and the presentation of an underground-underground criminal world. I love it, believe me. However, Agent Keen and the others are just literally there to have more cast on the show. That's it. The Blacklist would've been better off with other producers, it deserves so much more than what it got.

Raymond Reddington and Jack Bauer are simply the 2 greatest characters ever created on TV. I'll throw Raylon Givens in there as well. All very well written n acted without a doubt.
The clip at 3:15 to 3:48 is so heart breaking I cried watching it, so much emotion in this spectacular show. Also the part where you see Dembe with the oxygen mask on. Love this show so much!!!

i love how they portrayed Reddington like a normal person, unlike other hyper intelligent psychopath criminals like hannibal or joker. He just simply a man who have no other choice but to chose the dark path, in which many can relate to.....

Even if Ramond Reddington is just a fictional character, I reall miss him. Although he did evil things, he wasn't evil himself. Whatever he did was part of the role life has given to him and he played it out as good as he could. He was a guy with strict moral and I can't remember that he did ever anything bad to innocent people. He commited crimes, that would have been doene anyways, but je tried to do it the better way.

Last episode, the snob dinner with the postmodernist chef… in the dark… up until that antihumanist chef was about to sacrifice one of the last 400 owls of that species. The same with children or other innocents, but the opposite with people who cross him p, threaten his daughter or are just evil…
This character is amazing, and from how it started in season one and how it evolved I have say the writers were changed thanks to the actor. This is not James Spader, this is a character product of the creativity of that actor and the writers: I don’t think the producers knew what it was

I still wholeheartedly believe he is liz’s father. I think he survived the shot and faked his death so he can watch over her from afar. He knows far too many things that he wouldn’t be able to know if he just stepped into the role of being red, not to mention his devotion to Liz is something that couldn’t be done if he just stepped in to care for her bc of a love of her mother. He’s too devoted to her and that love is that of a father and not a surrogate. Plus add in the knowledge he has of reds time in the military with cooper and those are things he wouldn’t know from a file even if it wasn’t redacted. They can try to skirt around it all they want, but the fact is it will come out that Liz didn’t kill him that night and he is the original Red.

I think she actually shot her mother, and that's why mr kaplan said sorry katarina when she was digging up the bones. He saved her instead of her mother, from the people who was searching for katarina. Something to that sorts.

Sometimes the Blacklist is a patently absurd/silly show in terms of its plotlines and the contraptions it develops (especially in the later seasons), but Spader is so good. He can just hit those emotional notes so hard, whether it's anger or sadness or regret, and it brings out the drama.

Wow, you’ve captured the essence of Reddington. Couple weeks away from season 8 and all of us fans can’t wait! As for Reddington’s identity, he was Katarina and all the clues are there in the episodes. I can only hope the ending is written to show and explain the clues that are there if you look. Biggest reveal: What did he whisper in Kirk’s ear? Remember he did say that Elizabeth is his daughter. But the dna revealed the bones to be the real Reddington’s. Copper had a dna test done on the real Reddington’s bloody shirt and revealed he is father of Elizabeth. But if the real Reddington is dead, this Reddington said Elizabeth is his daughter, then he was her mother. There’s no way around it. The whisper, the bones, and the dna test Cooper had done are three major clues. There are so many more. Illya told this Katarina who was in the room with the plastic surgeon Dr Koehler: himself (Illya), Katarina and Dr Koehler. Katarina was the person under the knife - becoming Reddington. Remember what Illya told Reddington after he got out this Katarina’s apartment? “ She doesn’t know, I didn’t tell her!” The secret that Reddington was Katarina. Oh well, that’s my two cents for what is worth.
Spader is of Russian origin. He has know Ilja and Katarina cince childhood. Reddinkton is his new identity provided by Alan Fith, with whom he lived after coming from Soviet Unoin. There someone murdered his mother and younger's sister.... The skeleton was Spader's father Russian agent KGB named Seaduk. The whole series is Spader's plan to free Katarína fro. KGB so they can live together in piece. Katarina, Sam, Naomi, Jenifer, Tom(lives), Scotie, Corsican,sniper,Cooper, Resler, Samar etc played their role in that plan. And belive it or not, the seventh council ended excatly according to Red's and Katarína's plan. Red dies and Lyz takes her mother side.

Yes I also think thats some of the biggest clues are in season 3, Cape May when Red was at the beach house and helped Katarina fight those men and stop her from drowning herself. Then it was revealed that there was no woman there, that it was Raymond all along. I think he was having visions with his old self which was Katarina. He was contemplating his decision to become Red seeing as Elizabeth was dead and he thought there was no point. Its also in season 8 when Illya said that Dom didnt fully lie to Liz, that he only lied about who became Reddington, Dom said Illya became Reddington, so if he supposedly lied about it as we can see that Illya is still himself, and only 3 people (Dom, Illya, Katarina) knew about this, and Dom is also himself, then that Leaves Katarina. She became Reddington and it makes sense because she knew him the most out of all of them.
@@BillieJean61 Wow, I commented on here 2 years ago. Bringing up Cape May made me remember the conversation between Reddington and Katarina in the kitchen while they were eating. I’d say a clue in the way Reddington speaks the word “you” to Katarina. He says, “ I was a very different person then…you?” Or was he making a statement? “I was a very different person then…you.” I ve listened to it over and over and it’s difficult to decider it exactly. I believe the writers wrote it in such a way as to keep us guessing. But the writers put it in there, and the writers know who Reddington is! Kinda like having some fun with us viewers. I loved this show. I bet my husband as to his identity. He’s gonna owe some big bucks come the last episode which I heard is July 13th.

I’m angry to think that after 8 seasons of watching this man, learn of his history, people that know him from years ago, and his love of women, discovering he is Katarina-Elizabeth’s mother-is just stupid.
