Only annoying thing with stationary ammo boxes is that you dont get points for them. That is, if people refill from them, you get 5 points, but if they spawn next to box (with full ammo), you get nothing. Meanwhile, hand-dispensing ammo gives you 15 points per refill, almost as much as a kill, so... frustrating point when playing for team is somewhat at odds with personal ambition (if of course you are playing actively, if passively, for example behind mortar, then 0 problems).
That is sad that you only get that little rewarded from people resupplying from the box. As an officer I always stick to where the ammo box is, if there is any.
An engineer build for _HMG ballistic shield_ and/or _periscope_ would give the Rifleman-Grenadier more utility. Suvivability on MGs is low enough for people not to take them (it's 20203, crouching while blind firing and/or reloading them is in Red Orchestra, it ought to be in Izonso). The sight is also not legible in the absence of a tutorial. Mortars aren't always up, and preparatory suppression by rifle grenades for a push on objectives should be more meta than it is. Again, Red Orchestra with functional ADS range adjustment on the historically accurate grenade sights while using map/distance references > Isonzo implementation. They're a direct fire noob tube most of the time and gimmicky. Also: _only top off with Carcanos on the 6th round._ The stripper clip doubles as feed lips, thus only ejects once the last round is chambered; you'll get the very slow very annoying animation pulling out other rounds clip & all to substitute in a fresh one otherwise. Animation cancelling for various things in this is unacceptable in comparison to BF1, but this one you want to avoid above all else in close quarters. The higher ROF is justifiable to take it, but you have to manage this proactively.
rifleman is the best class because you get to passively effectively support your team, use stationary weapons at will, get the most practical weapons. the problem is that rifleman is the worst combat wise and is only good as a skill cannon or as an extremely passive player.
Pardon for intrusion, but as player with 1600 kills with rifle grenades, I can say following - capricious and specific weapon that you really need to learn how to shoot. Its not versatile. But if you learn, you can in some situations turn life of your opponents into small nightmare, plus in any case its a unique gaming experience. And well, you'll steadily get medal "most grenade kills"). Just do not forget about Rifle Grenadier perk (otherwise grenades have too large spread and there are not enough of them) and fact that you retain ability to take ammo box and supply allies.

How useful are rifle grenades in your opinion ?

Dagot did answer that one, nothing to add :)
