I am currently living in Japan so I got to see this movie back in early November. I have seen it 3 times since then. And I cry for that little girl everytime.
This was my favorite movie in years… Cried like a baby. Fantastic
Just getting home from my 12th viewing of this film. As a life long Godzilla fan I love this film and feel so proud to say I am a Godzilla fan.
I knew this movie was great when Godzilla began revving up his atomic breath. Usually, I get excited and think "Hell yeah!". In this movie, my thought was "Oh no. No no no no." And when he razed Ginza, I was emotionally shattered.
As a long time Godzilla fan, this movie just blew me away in how excellent it is. I have seen it twice, once by myself and the second time with friends who were fellow Godzilla fans and had fun watching their reactions to it and they loved it too. One of the best movies of 2023 for me.
Godzilla Minus One. It was really a story about forgiveness from the country, the community and within oneself.... to be at peace. I had read somewhere Japan was not going to submit this film Oscars consideration, since you can only submit one film, and it would be The Boy and the Heron for their foreign language submission in 2023.
Really? I haven’t seen that film yes but this movie is fantastic..
Both Ghibli and Toho give us great movies of 2023. The sad things is if you realize the current situation both movies is low-key anti-war
the push of china to take over Taiwan and the pressure from America on Asia to act as a barrier
for China access to the Pacific. And Since Japan is being one of power country in Asia to lead if a worse case scenario of war happens.
I would love to see the black and white version in an IMAX theater.
Glad to see a review of this one! Favorite movie I saw last year and always love your guys’ insights
The sound in the theater was amazing.
10/10 film. Unbelievably good. Good to hear y'all's thoughts. 👍🏽
Since Oppenheimer did not show the bomb drops on Japan, we should insert scenes of Godzilla using his nuclear breath. The audio of the explosions were top notch! And the Godzilla music just enhanced the movie so that when it went silence at the end, it just made that moment stand out even more.
This is an unexpected surprise. Loved the movie and the review.
Loved it, my personal fav of the year. The atomic breath scene was my fav scene of the year also.
This movie similar to EEA@O gave me an emotional wallop that caught me completely by surprise. Bravo Takashi Yamazaki, 👏 . Great review guys !
Fitting since Godzilla biting on Geek Bytes.
Godzilla is the physical manifestation of Koichi’s grief and shame. It was perfect
The highest praise I can give this film is that it made me cry the most since Coco.
You can literally play this movie after Oppenheimer
Yoooooo Kings!! I'm so happy your doing a review on this! I saw this week's ago!! Omg! Thank you guys!
I am life-long Godzilla fan. I saw my first Godzilla movie, Godzilla vs. Megalon, in the theatre when I was 6 and I have been hooked ever since! Godzilla Minus One is by far the best Godzilla movie I have seen and was blown away by not only the Kaiju destruction but by the depth of the human story. I have seen it twice in the theatres and will probably see it again before it leaves.
I really need to get around to seeing this one, I'll be back for the full review once I have!!
This is a good anti-war movie since China is pushing to take control of taiwan. There is a looming possibility of war since there this plan of US to control China access to the pacific. There is a lot of pressure on Japan to be on guard and all the south east Asia. There is pressure from America for Japan, Taiwan and Philippines since there act as a barrier to chinas access to the Pacific. And since Japan is one of the power in Asia they are force to be the leading country on this american plan. This movie is a good movie to remind not only Japan of what we'll be the cause of war.
台湾は中国の一部です。
It was the 2nd best movie I saw in 2023, 3rd best Godzilla film ever, and if Takashi Yamazaki wants to make a sequel, I’m all for it w/ a bigger budget $
This movie was FAN-TASTIC!!!
So happy that my Geek buds got a chance to watch and review this gem of a movie!!!
Loved This Movie. I saw it at a fan event in IMAX. Godzilla woke up and chose violence. It was freaking fantastic. The scene when Godzilla was chasing the boat was freaking horrifying. It was Godzilla's eyes, that showed so much menace. The human elements were great. 10/10
Great movie overall...loved the spectacular use of silence in the 3rd act. No complaints and accolades to all innvolved.0
This is my most anticipated movie of 2023 unfortunately I can't watch it for another 10 days, but it's IMAX so 🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳🥳 ...can't wait - I'll be back to share in the spoilers.
I absolutely loved Godzilla:Minus One. The dynamic relationships, the score and story was fantastic.
Yamazaki got praise from Spielberg at the Oscar dinner as he claimed he watched the movie 3 times. He had to go back and rewatch it in IMAX.
Good conversation!
Hi from UK 🇬🇧
I am Japanese. To be honest, I'm surprised and very happy that this movie is being appreciated by people in the West. It's a shame that it didn't win Best Picture, but it's clear that this movie is great even without the Academy's prestige. It's all thanks to you otakus who made this movie more valuable. thank you!
I’m going to see this gem in minus color. I think it might even surpass the imax experience 😃
Thank you.Really.Thank you.
Bit late mate
Nope. Just doing it on our own time.
Call me naive, why the hell are cinemas only now deciding that this is worthy for their screens? Guaranteed Hollywood greasy threats made cinemas not play this, made them look like fools!
What's up with all the dislikes on this? 🤔
It would be lovely if you guys could review/react to Blue Eye Samurai. Cheers!
I just finished the first episode!
Awesome!@@shannonmcclung9405
Burakku kigyo...I hope hollywood wont go down that road. Setting that aside -1.0 is really that good. I mean sure the godzilla franchise is slowly going up but minus one leaping godzilla to stardom all over again.
Move was Epic!!! But I would have preferred English voice-overs vs. subtitles like the olden days.
Godzilla Minus One I will say flat out is a pretty good movie, but I did not enjoy the movie, I flat out really just did not like it and honestly find Godzilla VS Kong and Godzilla: King of the Monsters as more enjoyable films. So for anyone offended, stick that in your pipe and smoke it I guess.
All Is 1
Hi! My name is Pierre. My online community knows me as P.A.Finley, AnonameUs, TheUniVerse. I am a 56 year young Black man born and raised in America. I introduce myself this way so you can know exactly where I'm coming from with what I am about to say about this movie.
This movie was sooooooooooo good, that I didn't even know what I was watching. That's how good it was. The entire movie was a completely 'different' experience entirely. Can't say the last time I was in a movie theater and found myself at times gripping the handrest as if something was going to happen to ME. The closest movies I can compare it to is the ones this movie gives odes to: Jurassic Park. Jaws. Dunkirk. Star Wars. And of course, the original Godzilla.
To put this into perspective, I was there when Jaws and Star Wars came out. I was a little kid at the time, but this was before PG Ratings and parents were taking hole families to see movies.
Godzilla Minus 1 is like that. A breath-taking viewing from start to finish. A roller coaster ride of emotions from beginning to end. The writing. The acting. The sound. The action. Superb... all of them. Only a hand full of films can I say made me feel good about being alive. This is 1 of them.
Godzilla Minus 1 shows us the absurdity and extreme consequences of war, throwing a floodlight on a part of our human history we are all uncomfortable viewing and talking about. We have way too many of those. This movie hints in a refreshing and so desperately needed, wished for and desired direction of change.
We here at all things NexA.R.K as well as everything All1llA believe, among other things, that Humanity is 1 human Being. Just as our individual human bodies have billions of moving parts and pieces, so too is it the 1 Human Body. The only difference is, our individual billions of parts and pieces all work together as a unit to do and perform our every wish and will. Humanity has not evolved to that awareness yet, but that awareness is coming. Eventually, we as human beings will function as 1 unit. We got here to this state of technological marvel by way of war, destruction and conflict. Imagine what we could do united as 1.... warp speed, too slow.
By way of watching this movie, twice, the word 'Godzilla' has been on my mind as of late. 'All1llA' simply means 'All is 1 and 1 is All'. I have a license plate that reads 'ALLIZW1' and an email that reads 'alliz1zilla'. You can see my obsession with this idea. 'All1llA' and 'alliz1zilla' are words called 'palindromes' - words pronounced the same way forwards or backwards, or what I like to call 'butterfly/mirror' images. Using this imagery in partial reverse with the word Godzilla, we have 'All Iz God'. Taking it a step further, 'All Iz God and God Iz All' Just saying.
I will close with this. I think the main connection this movie has with me and the audience is that, even the worst of us, the coward of us can sometimes redeem ourselves and become the hero who saves us all. That is a very powerful message. 🤔 Peace and...
