      @@CarpeDiem-ww2fk We're all safe right now on the big island! Just to be clear, the Dec 2020 eruption he's referring to is contained within the Kilauea Crater in Volcano National Park (as I write this in Jan 2021). This means that the crater has partially filled up with lava, but there is no lava flowing out of it.

    @2:20 Volcanos did not produce 80% of the Earth's surface. The surface is what hardened when the earth cooled. Volcanos may have "resurfaced" it over 4 billions years, but they did not initially produce the surface.

    Kilauea never sleeps that volcano is always busy sending out lava and making new land. Kilauea is the entire Big Island of Hawaii every day the citizens of the island have to keep moving their homes because you never know where Kilauea will erupt next. the mountain is always busy thats why we have to send geologist up there to monitor this never sleeping volcano.

    I expected a more indepth research with historical eruption statistics and a comparison with another active volcano like for example Mt Etna,
    but just saying that a volcano is the most active on the planet without any proof from institutions like Hawaii Volcano observatory or USGS
    sounds a little silly to me.

  • @JoesWebPresence

    This video's title is a question, but nowhere in this video is this question even addressed, let alone answered. The description ends with the statement "Here's why." Yet this question is left hanging. Instead, we are given the same vulcanism lecture we were given in eighth grade, catering to those who obviously weren't listening that day, explaining plate tectonics interacting with a hot spot, and treating us like slow children. I had expected something on the viscosity of the magma, or the recent seismic data revealing the massive structures interacting near the mantle core boundary. I certainly didn't expect the Smithsonian channel to patronize us with basic descriptions of what a volcano is, without addressing the question the title posed.
    This video is academic click bait.

    • @enpenguin4776
      @enpenguin4776 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right? I actually thought they went further with their research into the reason. And I know that we still have limited knowledge about volcanoes, but they could've at least provide more theories, other than the basic "it's a hotspot", because a lot of seismologists already published a couple of research about this.
