Adverts aren't how places like Twitter and YT make their money. In fact they work at a deficit. Their value to the owner is on the back end with their other ventures. and through selling data and analytics etc. This is why it's so hard for companies to compete at any real level with the big boys in these spaces.
Is that because of the massive server costs? I still assumed they'd profit from ads, especially youtube with ita video ads. I mean 2 Ads per video they gotta be making a killing off of that. But that's totally different from twitter

@@frankmarano1118 There are a bunch of factors involved from server cost/upkeep, staff to manage infrastructure as a whole and the infrastructure/facilities themselves as well as the site itself. Legality issues, and so on. So it can't really be pin pointed to any one or couple direct issues.
Also keep in mind the difference in multiple different adverts and multiple adverts by the same company or same product. So the amount of content needed to be handled vastly outweighs the number of different advertisers paying in to go toward costs.
On top of this many sponsor/advert agreements have clauses to void the agreement and or reduce compensation under certain circumstances. This is why they're generally fast and loose with their bans/punishments. Because they can always retract that. But if they break a contract clause they lose money. Which you can call it scummy, many do. But it's part of business.

I totally agree that it comes off super annoying for shows to still release once a week instead of all at once, I think the streaming medium has pretty much proven that seasonal full releases is just the superior model from a consumer point of view. The only reason any show still releases on a weekly schedule is to maintain presence on live TV and to maintain audience capture longer for new subs, its just stupid and obnoxious otherwise.

Tech companies need to be lightly overstaffed. You need dedicated roles in middle management if you want to keep processes respected, and also a clean ticket database. Unless your entire team is fielded by super active & participative employees. When people are stuck in the trenches doing crazy workloads, at some point they wont care about a process, and start cutting corners. And with nobody there to reinforce those processes they go by the way side. Fast forward to the final form. You have tons of technical debt, and insane amounts of tribal knowledge. But hey, you sure saved money during that period of time! Its a fool's errand to think you can trim all the middle management and not pay the price down the road.
Mind you Im talking about large companies with multiple development studios. If you have either a small team, or studio. Then yeah those roles are superficial since you can still do it by yourselves, and usually in a small team there is the chance of the passion project effect and people are all super focused. When you grow that becomes harder to sustain, or rather. To sustain the company on overly hybrid roles.

I think Devin is being a bit simplistic in saying the issue was they were overstaffed,hence layoffs. Salesforce for instance, staffed totally fine, pandemic hits, tech company stock explodes, on top of that, SF got added to the Dow Jones Industrial so another huge surge, SF tries to increase staff to accommodate explosive growth and didn't account for that growth being artificial, growth then becomes a nosedive, SF cuts staff back to pre-pandemic times. Complicating that a bit further is they were buying up other companies like Tableau and Slack to artificially pump up their overall growth.
