Magnifique! Je suis sûr que le grand Jacques aurait aimé...
Il y était, spectacle d depuis 1966 puis ce film en 74 où Brel avait accepté de chanter "ne me quittes pas", il est dés le début de la vidéo devant la pub DUBONNET et c'est à cette place qu'il chantera. On le revoit à 3.04.

cela m'attriste encore de le voir ainsi et aussi de voir que personne ici le remarque, c'est l'auteur compositeur et interprète de grand niveau, un journaliste US dira en 1965 : "Un journaliste ira jusqu'à le qualifier d'ouragan magnétique."
c'est Mortimer qui a fait connaitre Jacques Brel aux Américains, il ne faut pas oublier !
Il avait néanmoins fait un Carnegie hall auparavant avec un grand succès et sans traduction mais grand succès ne veut pas dire triomphe au point d e le faire connaitre partout aux USA.
Il le dira d'ailleurs à D Glaser qui lui parle d'Amérique, il répond non à New York.
En décembre 1965, c'est peut-être là que M Schumann a connu J Brel. Il s e sont rencontré en 1966 date où M S a démarré la comédie musicale , pour les USA entières et ailleurs oui c'est M Schuman.
Brel a refait le Carnegie le 4 décembre 1967 . "Un journaliste en 65, ira jusqu'à le qualifier d'ouragan magnétique." dixit article de l'époque .

I like this one better than Bowie's and I love Bowie's version. Nothing touches Jacques Brel's version though.

I would say Mort's rendition rivals even Jacques' original. And that's really saying something.

As a former US Navy guy, I can relate, but it would have been the "Port of Subic Bay". I always enjoy listening to other interpretations .
So strong.

Mort Shuman was almost a giant (6'6" minimum?? listed 6'4" on his License Driving at just 16 yo !)
