      Thanks dude i tried to get the important parts covered. Your not alone dude. Great bike in the open, but hard to ride in the tight stuff.

    Well done review, always nice to see what average Joe has to say about his dirtbike. Nobody knows there machinery as well as the owner.

      Thanks dude. It has been a fun year figuring this bike out. My 250 was just good to go I didn't change much. This bike was much harder to get sorted out for my lack of skill and tight woods racing.

    I just picked one of these up after 10 years of not riding. I can't wait!

      Congrats on the new bike. They are very powerful so take it slow and easy while you get used to riding again, then have a blast.👍

    I ride a 22 KX450 on the tech trails. Added large tank, kickstand, 52 rear sprocket and she is good to go.
    Cheers !

    Great review. If you quizzed me about what you said, i would not have an answer. But it was entertaining and informative nonetheless. 👍

      @mkubic352 Glad you enjoyed. I tried to format it so it made logic sense but it was recorded in one shot, so some things came to mind while doing the voice over. 👍

    Which of your two bikes do you enjoy riding more? 250 or 450?

    • @Randy_Cox
      @Randy_Cox  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depends. Riding for fun or racing? Riding the dunes or racing a hare scramble in tight woods? They both have there pros and cons. The 250x is better in the tight stuff at slower speeds, more technical terrain. The 450x is unbeatable in the open desert or deep sand as it has all the stank you can use. I think in the long run I will be keeping the 450x and selling the 250x because I am so big and heavy and don't mind wrestling the bike through the tight treesin exchange for the big power. Hope that helps give some perspective.

    • @Jeff14S
      @Jeff14S 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Randy_Cox yes, that definitely helps. I’m down in the NV desert where there is no tight woods. I like the idea of a light flickable 250, but concerned I’d run out of juice in the open desert racing. WORCS and NGPC is where the 250 could do well, and concerned a 450 could tire me out. But I hear of the 450 class, this 450 is the most manageable. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @Randy_Cox
      @Randy_Cox  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Jeff14S For that racing they will both be good bikes. Depending on your weight and skill level the 450x could be better. If your over 200lbs or an experienced rider the 450x will be faster, but yes it will tire you out more cause going faster takes more work.

    What did you think of the Chavez map compared to your woods map, and compared to the black coupler?

    • @Randy_Cox
      @Randy_Cox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Chavez map is a map made for moto cross. So it is hard hitting right off the bottom and stronger through the mid. Not what you want for a woods map. The 450 for the woods does not need more power, it needs more controllable power. Heck even half the pro motox riders down tune there 450 to make it easier to ride, not hotter.
      My tune I created is more detuned than the black coupler also. I basically added fuel because I have a full exhaust and wanted as cool an engine as I could get then dumped the timing down low -10 degrees and tapered it up to where you hit 50% throttle or 7,000rpm. Then it goes back to the green motox map.

    • @reknelb
      @reknelb ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Randy_Cox Looking at the numbers for the Chaves map, it does not look like it would tame the low end down. I watched your calibration tool video, thats why I asked. Your woods map was backed off alot even compared to the black. I have the same bike with a similar setup you have, and I also have had a 21 and 22 kx250x.I just got the calibration tool, but havent mapped it yet. I ran the black coupler which was fine except that twitchy on/off throttle.

    • @Randy_Cox
      @Randy_Cox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @reknelb ya the tuning is more about flame outs and traction and ridability in the tight slick stuff. I rode the bike with all 3 couplers when it was stock and they are all fun on the open stuff, but sucked bad in tight, rockey, slick stuff. It either went way to hard or flamed out. By doing what I did it just made the sweet spot of easy to control and no flame out and made it way bigger. Thus way easier to ride in the nasty stuff and when the trail opens up just twist the throttle and bam, back to full stank.

    How are you going to find the time to ride 3 bikes?😁😁

    • @Randy_Cox
      @Randy_Cox  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have 4 bikes and they all seem to be accumulating hours faster than I would like. LoL I don't have much a life outside bikes. I get my daughter every other weekend and we typically don't ride those weekends, but all other weekends are spent riding or racing.

    You're the guy that banned me from the facebook page !
    I was genuinely asking questions before I go and buy a brand new one, did you not do that ? Here I am reviewing your video, who would have thought eh ?! All the best from Scotland

      @beepee700 no i don't lie about owning something, lie to enter i to a group then ask questions if I should buy the thing I lied about owning. I don't want dishonest people in my group or on this channel. Every question you could possibly ask is answered outside a private owners group. I have a review video on my public channel about the kx450x.

    i have the 250x and 450 moto but they are 23's. i did have the 22 250x. not as aggressive as the 23 250x. it cornered better though and the suspension was more setup for fast woods. the 23 250x suspension is stiffer.

    • @Randy_Cox
      @Randy_Cox  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya some of the changes for 23 where a positive, but losing low end on a 250 wasn't something I want. I do all I can to make the bottom end fatter and hardly ever turn 12,000-14,000 rpm where the big power is made.

  • @joelthomas4487

    My dealer has the 21 and a 23 450x left over. I know the 21 is the same as the 22 and i believe the 23 as well. The 21 is 6200 which is 3400 off, i might grab it even though i like the 250x. Any thoughts? Im 150lbs and coming off a klr650 and honda cr500 Thanks

    • @Randy_Cox
      @Randy_Cox  ปีที่แล้ว

      For the most part I think it depends on your experience level. The 250x is amazing for beginner to expert as it's power works everywhere. The 450x in tight slow woods ridden by a novice rider will stall, flame out, over heat and just hate life. If your skilled enough to ride it fast and smooth and not hard enduro stuff then it can do great, but it takes a lot more effort than the 250x.
      Hope that helps. Both are great bikes, but if I could only afford 1 it would be the 250x.

    Why buy that bike if your gonna modify it that heavy?

    • @Randy_Cox
      @Randy_Cox  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because I like modified bikes. I like a bike to do exactly what I want. I like making my bike different than others. And most importantly...it makes me smile. 😃 Find something in life that makes you smile and do that.
