thanks so much for this video!! me and my partner kept watching it, taking it back, pausing it etc... to take in everything as it's pretty complcated as a beginner to set up a sowing machine. We managed to do it, and sowed our first ever peices! Thanks again. What a great video.
My mother in law bought this machine as a moving in present for us and I have no idea what im doing, I've never touched a sewing machine before, thankyou for this video it's been a big help
Thanks for this tutorial! First time machine user and struggled to get it set-up using the John Lewis manual, your walk through and closeups were a huge help!
I bought this sewing machine 7 years ago and never opened it because not only would my mum not allow me to because our flat was too small and she hated noise, but the instructions confused me! This made so much sense! I probably have an old version though so no clue if it's as good or even if it works once it's out of the box! But i'm an independent woman with my own place now so I'm going to give it a shot today! :D

Great review Abi, thanks. Just in a spirit of objectivity - there is actually a zig-zag width adjustment. It's the increments between B and C on the stitch dial the closer to C the larger the swing. Looking forward to this series of reviews. Best wishes.
Excellent walkthrough there Abi .Your videos are clear and really well edited. your knowledge of sewing and machines is exceptional. I thought most of these machines would work for me as a second machine to my workhorse industrial machine. However Ive managed to revive my beloved Singer 201p .I needed to rebuild the tension knob - new springs. New belt and because I've been using my industrial and not the singer for 3 years I needed to give it lots of running in time not to mention plenty of oiling. So pleased with the results if they continue I won't need the second machine. thanks for all your advice and if I do buy one probably the Janome £99 though can't find it at that low price - will be on your recommendation!!!
James that’s excellent. We love the 201 here. Definitely a workhorse and much preferred to repair and reuse then buy new (plastic). I’m quite sure theJanome RRP is £99 so it shouldn’t be any more than that. Lots of people are selling them on marketplace because it was a freebie with a magazine subscription this summer. I just got my JL machine today and am a beginner so was looking for videos on how to get started cuz the last time I used a sewing machine was 10 years ago lol! Got a machine to stitch a bouncer cover for my baby. Thank you so much for your detailed video. Am going to try going through more of your videos. Have you done a video using all the features of this model? I would really really appreciate it, if you haven't
I'm looking forward to the comparison between the different machines. As you’ve said before It’s another Janome branded machine. I do wonder how different it will be from the Necchi as they are under the same umbrella. Another one is the Singer and Pfaff brands as they fall under SVP (Singer -Viking -Pfaff) worldwide.

Hello there I've had my JLI Iose machine for 4 years, but only now setting it up. I'm fairly familiar with very basic sewing but each machine is different. I'm having trouble threading the bobbin. I've followed your video (thank you) and it's exactly as I've done via following the manual's instructions, but my thread is winding around the spindle that the bobbin is on underneath and not on the bobbin. I've threaded from the base hole up and out through the top hole and then placed it on the spindle winder, but the thread is under the bobbin because that's how it was threaded in order to go up through the hole and through the top one. Please can you advise as to what I'm doing wrong, as with my old machine I only had to manual wind thread around the bobbin a few times, then press the pedal and it wound the required thread on. Thanks in advance 😊

What I'm trying to do at the mo is that I have a summer top with one inch wid shoulder straps. It's a kind of cold shoulder top and I've been meaning to alter the straps for the past year. So as I am not familiar with more advance stitching through elastic, I wondered if you could offer any help please. All I wish to do is shorten the straps and then sew them. Thank you in advance xx

Hi abi. I am looking to possibly purchase this machine. I found your video very useful. Great review and I loved the Janome comparison. I'm interested by the things they left out (needle threader, thread cutter etc) which seem like trivial additional costs.
@@nakedjaybird09 Haha ... good spot. I just looked at my Bernette (based on the same Janome) and it has a thread cutter there too, making two cutters. Not that I use either of them.

Hi Abi! Isn't there a thread cutter on the back of the presser foot bar? I have the same model but its by Baby Lock, I believe it was made by Janome! @@AbisDen I think there making them now for Singer maybe sold the name out to Janome? I'm in Canada my Baby Lock is made by Janome I got it from United States. The newer Singers seem to have the same parts as Janome! Take a look at the little mending machine by Singer it is the same as the Janome one that's available. Singer M1000 .
Thank you Michael, I will. I think what it is, there are just a few factories building the machines, and the brands use the same factories, whether these brands are under the same umbrella, I’m not sure to be honest but my source confirmed singer and Janome and Brother are different umbrellas. But it’s becoming so much more apparent that the “designers” (ie Janome, singer and brother for example) of these machines aren’t being inventive or creative, just slapping on a different plastic covering and a different name. I don’t know. It needs more investigation.

Janome do make great machines. It’s just in the Uk their customer service needs a little working on in my honest opinion
@@AbisDen Yes exactly my my machine is Baby Lock Zest its its the same as your John Lewis just that the housing is different. that's keep up the great work!
