i dont think anyone realizing how important artists speaking out about addiction first hand is. I am a heroin addict and she just put my thought process into words before relapsing. Thank you Demi. Addicts aren't just on the street, we come in all shapes and sizes. Addiction doesn't descriminate. Takes us all.

Many survivors of trauma actually find themselves reenacting their traumas sometimes subconsciously and Demi has spoken about that being a way that she tends to cope too so this was probably a very healing project for her to do although still retriggering for sure

You know an artist is so dedicated to the storytelling of their work when they reenact such a horrific night of their life for a music video. That must have taken an unbelievable amount of strength that I can't even begin to imagine. Demi's work ethic is something else.
I had something similar happen (almost died from taking something) but not with the serious drugs she used. It was when I was 15. I’m now 18 and still cannot even wear the clothes I wore that night, still have panic attacks when I hear an ambulance, still have PTSD from the night it happened. The fact that this happened so recently for her and she put on the same clothes, brought a whole crew in to produce this video, relived her nightmare, relived a night when she was raped and left for dead- that takes guts. I will forever admire that because of the absolute strength it must have taken.
I mean, she is getting millions of dollars to sing a generic song someone else wrote about an overdose. I'm thinking this is more exploitative than brave.

I'm sure there was some catharsis for her in taking control and direction of what happened leading up to and during her OD. That's a part of the healing and I truly hope it helped her even a little.

I’m addicted to weed and alcohol I’m a binger so it’s awful but I know if you can get off fentanyl I know I can stay sober 9 days and I am not doing well and it’s hard because the people here do drugs in my apartment building. I just want to be away from it all I’m so tired of it.

The fact that this song can apply to any type of addiction. Her entire story and documentary really hit hard. I’m in an abusive relationship and it’s almost like being addicted to drugs, you don’t know why you keep going back and a lot of the times I’ve came close to death. To say the least, Demi has touched so many lives with sharing her story 💜

The fact that she's able to place her self back in a heart breaking situation for a musical video involving probably one of the worst moments of her life, being back in a hospital bed with tubs in her neck cleaning her blood as her body/face looks white and half way dead is beyond guts or bravery. I’m an adult child of 2 addicts/alcoholics and Demi is the first celebrity I’ve seen be even a little honest and open about her experiences as both an addict/alcoholic and a child of the same pattern. Came out a year ago, and I understand this applies to addiction in all forms, but I took it more in the sense of depression. I have chronic depression, stress, and anxiety, and this song perfectly describes how I feel when I relapse too. And it almost sent me to my grave a few months ago. I hope anyone who is an addict, or just suffers from mental health disorders, gets help and knows that you're not alone. There is always someone out there like you, and if you cant believe that, just believe in whatever God or higher power to give you strength because you CAN make it out. You can keep the cravings the anxiety the depression the suicidal thoughts the vomiting the explosive shit the restless leg syndrome that won’t let you be comfortable in any position the high blood pressure the fast heart rate the insomnia that last days you start to hallucinate the horrible debilitating pain in your bones and joints that last for weeks and have long lasting effects for the rest of your life. You start to think “I’m just a worthless junkie why not just jump in front of this train” “I can’t do this, just call your dealer “

Absolutely gut-wrenching. The duffle bag, the trash who SA her and left her for dead, the way her team found her unresponsive, nearly dying in that hospital bed. But she survived and is doing so much to help remove the stigma around addiction. I’m so glad she’s still here to tell her story.

@@coloritr.o.y6197 her drug dealer carried a duffle bag full of drugs around with him, she ran into him at a party 6 years later with it and that’s when she relapsed, he also brought it over to her house the night she overdosed. She said it was like going shopping because he had like every drug imaginable in that bag and she tried nearly all of them, most for the first time including h*roin.

I showed my father "dancing with the devil" and "Anyone." He has been battling alcolohilism since he was a kid, and was addicted to meth for over 30 years. I haven't seen a grown man relate to a song, and sob so hard in my life. Demi has been someone I've idolized since I was a kid. And she's helped my dad not feel alone. Life is hard, as well as addiction and I hope my dad can push through as well as demi has. Thank you demi for helping my dad find a friend❤

I'm not a praticular fan of demi, but I have to respect her for this. This is literally her story and it's incredible how she is telling us how everything turned out for her and to put herself in a position of vulnerability to tell what happen is amazing. This can help many people seek for help, who are suffering like she did and are going through what she went.
And I think she can help even more people than everyone is maybe thinking... she is such an inspiration... I know it's nothing u can compare with her or many other way more serious stories at all but I was really down the last months and this made me realize how important it is to use every day and every chance in your life. In a weird way, this entire album feels like her 'debut' album. She has always been honest and open; but all these songs feel like one cohesive story, with no 'hit' or 'commercial single' in mind. Just a narrative from track 1-19, like albums used to be. I applaud her for telling this story.

I think it’s not your place to say anything about it, just because you have been clean for 32 years. I just reached 2 years of being clean and I don’t start bashing her because she relapsed a few times. Recovery is hard as it is, we need to help each other out instead of saying she isn’t taking it seriously.

When I was 22 I drank a gallon of wine and then took two bottles of pills. My OD was intentionally an attempt to die. I woke up days later in the ICU on a ventilator and they were surprised I wasn’t brain dead. This shit is real, and it’s so important to see celebrities like her talking about it without sugarcoating or otherwise ignoring the dramatic truth behind mental illness.
earlier last year I was found unconscious at a club's bathroom where the paramedics found me and rushed to the hospital (which I didn't wake up till 6 hours later), I had drank a lot of beer, champagne mixed with red bull, vodka, tequila, sex on the beach.. and that alone should have killed me.
My brother had done drugs and he is in the hospital still but he is a awake and that is all wanted for him he woke up today.

When I was 16 I had been bullied so I wanted to die I drank some vodka out of my parents cabinet and almost died they ended up saving me but it didn't stop the bully's but I learned that I'm clearly stronger than the bullies

I’ve only struggled with alcoholism before, but the main thing this song speaks to me about is my abusive marriage. When I first heard this song I was a full blown alcoholic and didn’t know it. Then I joined the Navy and got into an abusive relationship which then turned into a very rushed, physically, emotionally and spiritually abusive marriage. She talks about a substance in this song but now as a wife soon to be divorced from someone who brought me so far away from God, I realize dancing with the Devil can have so many more meanings. The Devil will either take it all from you or nothing and as soon as you go even slightly further from God, the Devil will take an inch and turn it into a mile. You can’t let that person have one more chance or that substance have one more relapse. Once you’re delivered the first time don’t Go back because Jesus has better things for you planned. He is the way and the only way!

This song literally gives me chills every time I listen to it. I met demi before that happened and it breaks my heart that she went through that. I had a similar experience and I can't tell you how lucky I was to meet her after that happened to me. I'm internally grateful that she helped me more than she'll ever know.

The fact that people are mad about her speaking on her own experience is mad gross . Everyone deals with recovery differently and if singing about it makes her better power to her !
Not only that but she probably also did it to help others whose gone or is going through the same/similar issues
I’m not mad, but the only people I saw mad were other ex-addicts who felt she was profiting off of traumatic experiences that they’ve also gone through. It’s one of those things like if you haven’t been there you don’t have a say. So while I wasn’t mad, I feel like I should stand with them.

My mom died in the next room from heroin when i was 17. I never got to tell her i was pregnant. She didnt get to see me graduate. Demi's struggle really shined light on how hard addiction is for me. Ive never been into drugs myself so i never understood. It made me have sympathy for addicts. I never had sympathy for my mother and what happened but watching and seeing someone struggle as she did i have finally built up forgiveness.

She hated herself for it and talked to her new manager about it she was afraid he wouldn't work with her but instead he asked her what was wrong and helped her which was great for her since her previous team and manager were slightly toxic and forced her to live a certain lifestyle

I had so many friends die from overdoses and I chose not to get involved with drugs. God is good. He has protected her. She has a gift. She’s gods given!

I almost lost a family member to drug addiction and I couldn’t stop crying as I watched this. He could’ve died but he survived, and so did Demi. She’s sharing her story and I hope anyone else struggling sees this video and knows it’s never too late to save yourself if life gives you another chance.
This video/song gets me every time. I’ve been clean and sober for 28 years and it brings me back to that moment of realization that if I didn’t change everything, I was gonna die. I pray Miss Lovato works her program and stays clean and sober for herself this time, as doing it for anyone else just doesn’t stick.
