I played drums on this track and throughout the soundtrack for the film. It was an honour and a privilege to work with Archie. I’ve rarely seen beauty, humility, strength & talent shine in the way that it did with Archie.
This song, this film, all the old diggers on this are legends. Thank you Rolf de Heer. You are definitely one of the greatest in Aussie film making history. Was fortunate enough to meet Gulpilil and play yidaki with him. Had some mad adventures with Grant. Watching this reminds me of how much our arts have changed with the attention span of our contemporary culture giving films like this with long scenes for contemplation almost impossible to sell. Also one of the great soundtracks made in this land. Thank you all for being part of this.
Just rewatched this movie... i had not paid much attnetion to the soundtrack by Archi Roach the first time...but this time it tied the film together and almost provided a mediation on men and how they live their life, especially this track.
David Gulpilil and Archie Roach, both deadly strong and proud Indigenous men. This movie is one of Australia's best with a deadly soundtrack to go with it. 👍🏽👍🏽
RESPECT....To all involved for bring'n such a moving/ gut wrenching/witty film to light...Should be shown in all schools as early as,,,, the youth are Stronger than we think....we need CHANGE...just try it,,, be no going back,,,,, black or white
Love this song...And I highly rate the movie for any man searching for his destination...As I watched the movie I could see all the symbols he was following and learning the lessons he was giving on the way...He led them through his ancestors land and even though he was captive he was the man in a position of power and even though he could've exploited this power he still looked after Gardiya man as if he was one of his own tribe...The aborigines have been the custodians of this land since before time itself and when they are ready they will hand it over to the next life still in pristine condition and with no hate...Their culture needs to be commended for being the guardians of this great land.
I hope everyone that had something terrible and racist to say about this amazing song and movie weren't Australian.. (Not angry about what I read in comments just thought people would have some respect for this artist for continuing to educate and inspire Australian's)
all peoples black/white have suffered from british rule,,, even the british themselves............hope to see ya later ,,,hope we catch big barra the right way...i bring the crab..... i just need to find ya....never again see stage presence such of one brilliant individual,,, as in all of HIS movies.......

Solid playing. I'm really moved by this song.
@@gilpolanco1514 Thank you. I agree, Archie's interpretation of this song is so full of emotion and humanity.
Fair play to you! Do you remember who the other musicians were? There is very little info online about this record.
Graham Tardif wrote the music Rolf DeHeer the lyrics, Andy Salvanos - bass; Julian Barnett - Gtr; Steve Salvi - Dobro; Mort - keys

A brilliant and haunting soundtrack. This song is especially so for how it reflects each of the men, their views, attitudes and choices.
