In terms of the battery, I think the first wireless keyboard is better. You can always install charged double As. With the newer keyboard, the non-exchangeable, built in battery would lose its effectiveness over time.
I do like that it's on an inclined metal slab so it makes it sturdier while typing. The only thing that I kinda don't like are the left and right arrow keys, they look out of place. Other than that, seems great!

This keyboard's battery life is outstanding... I got a new iMac in late August early September 2017 which of course included this keyboard and I still haven't charged it once.. and the battery is at 33%.
One thing I could not give up when I switched to the Mac a couple years ago was my mechanical keyboard. I much prefer my Cherry MX Blues over Apple's new scissor switch with barely any key travel.
+DetroitBORG with Apple everyone always says "maybe next year". Every single time. And then they never do it, and remove even more features. Like the new imacs with 5400RPM disk, fusion drive reduced from 128Gb to 24Gb, not having USB-C when having it on the macbook...
+Vinnie Sims Since the Magic Keyboard is meant to be used with desktop computer's, it's lack of a backlight probably isn't the end of the world since most people have light sources right by their desktops anyway. I think laptop keyboards should have backlights since you may use them in a place where lighting is bad, though.
I purchased one of these in 2020 and liked it so much that I bought a second one for another Mac that is using an older but functional keyboard. I even having a Razer gaming keyboard and I prefer this Apple keyboard for typing. Razer looks nice with the lights though.

At some point i think i may have to invest and buy the numeric keyboard just because I work better with a keyboard that has more size.

If it was $79 i think it would be a better deal. I do like the new small compact look of it. Being not backlit is not a big thing to me but i think they should've had it.
One thing which might be a downside is that it is also lower than the old model and some people like a more raised typing. But one big advantage over the old model ist that I can now turn it into a wired keyboard if I don't mind the cable. :-D
I have a 2011 iMac which doesn't have BT4.0, I read somewhere that maybe you could still use one of these keyboards on a non BT4.0 enabled Mac as long as you have it plugged in, anyway you perhaps could test this or anyone know if this is true? Same question goes for the trackpad 2 but not the mouse obviously since it charges from the bottom so unusable while charging.

Does the eject key (or any other key) work as the Home/Lock button for iPad, so you can press it to lock/unlock very easily, and double press it to go to multitasking view? The previous gen didn't.
I think this keyboard is great. I am glad that they include a cable instead of being "lol get an iPhone first". A bit sad that there isn't backlight though. Nice video!
I have an xtreme wireless Bluetooth keyboard :D it works GREAT. I would recommend this keyboard and the apple magic keyboard. In fact, I'm typing on the xtreme keyboard RIGHT NOW!
Can you do a review on iphone 6/6s accessories. I'm looking around and I Groupon has a lot of products but not much info on what the products look like oh the phones. I'm looking at screen protectors mainly. like what is tempered glass? should i get a anti-spy screen? or a mirror screen?

thanks for the video. no backlit is a bummer for me. i also wish it had a male-female lightening connector on the side instead of front (might sound dumb but hear me out)... so if the lightening connection is on the side, you could theoretically connect magic trackpad by its side. and magic trackpad could also have a female lightening connector which can be charged along with keyboard with JUST 1 CABLE!
Is there any indication on the keyboard that it's charging when connected to a lightning connector? And is there any way to tell when it's 100% charged?
For some reason when I disconnect the lightning cable from the magic keyboard the keyboard disconnects from the computer. I have a 2007 iMac with Bluetooth. It even showed a message it connected to the computer but disconnects when I unplug charger 😑

Is it possible to turn bluetooth off when connecting Apple magic keyboard over lightning cable?and does it need any special setup steps? I would like to use it in wired mode and don't want to empty and charge the battery all the time. Furthermore it would reduce electric smog.

the Logitech K810 & K811 have all the functionality of this keyboard, backlit and has 3 Bluetooth profiles for quick switching between devices.

I wish it came with a numeric keypad. As a graphic designer, it makes my workflow much more efficient when I have the extra keys.

I think first Magic Keyboard has a better layout (I'm referring to the tapering (?) design), but the major downside is no backlit keys.

How does it work with iPad Air? (mainly due to new bluetooth standards?)
So if you leave the Lighting cable plugged in and toggle the power switch off, will the Magic Keyboard work wired?
-Add a lightning port
-Make it thinner (more uncomfortable to use)
