It’s true. I still remember rushing to Red Eye Records in Sydney the day Crowded House Album came out in 1986. It’s sad but shutting you eyes and listening to this can make sort real again.
The Single Most Under Appreciated Band and Lead Singer, Guitarist and Songwriter in the History of Modern Music. I always thought if Beatle Paul had sat down with Neil Finn he would got the knack back for writing hit songs again post Wings. Just crafting light and dark meshed songs. Neil was his missing muse…..
Very cool. I was not a huge CH fan. I was transformed by Split Enz, as well as The Clash, The Jam, Police, Pretenders, U2, Romeo Void, INXS, Divinyls, and Bob Marley, etc in my musical venture from 70s classic and prog rock to post punk and New Wave and a bit of the early 80s reggae. I bought True Colours the day it came out and wore the grooves out of it learning "I Got You," and 'One Step Ahead' on bass to cover them in my 80s New Wave band. But I did not know Crowded House was on the bill for this show. Til Tuesday played this same day on this stage, and the weather was not cooperating, playing havoc with the sound and tech, but Til Tuesday overcame and put on a great show, as I see now CH did too. I was at this same site in 2014, working in my MRI tech career on a travel job in Cocoa Beach. Totally changed, but same stage and band-shell, and the structure you see from the stage, on the left at the border to the beach, is still there, and I was standing right there for the concert I saw, which was a Doobie Brothers tribute band. They were excellent, and my hotel room was just to the left of the stage, in a huge, totally attached shopping, restaurant area. All those houses you see to the left of the stage are no longer.
They hadn't taken off in the UK at this time ,( that would come with Woodface )so always felt special to us " in the know " as it were, they were my band I paid small fortunes to own anything and everything I could get on them . Inc a video of this concert ..of course I had been a frenz long b4 but this was something even more exciting to me in on it at the beginning. I Still like them. Seen them many times live .met them all & Neil still writes some gorgeous tunes but the light faded for me a little once Paul died . It evokes great memories. Thanks 😊
The extended intro to “This Is Massive” was due to the fact that Neil’s guitar wasn’t working when they came on stage, so the band just vamped until the techs managed to fix it. Neil’s dry “At last” comment said it all. 😆
I , as an American, think that you Aussies and Kiwis should tell all all American artists to #$ off and not play, buy or download a single one of our shit artists until the Finn Brothers, Crowded House, and Split Ends get into the Rock n Roll HOF. Get organized and get it done please. This is one of the greatest musical collaborative groups in the entire world and the crap they has proceeded in getting in before these immortal geniuses. So please get it done and do it loud!!!
The music of CH has aged well with me after I bought that first album with little knowledge of Split Enz. What surprises me is how cool I think these guys are on stage this many years later. I may not have appreciated their fashion sense at the time. I'd say they've managed an iconic look blending the avant garde Enz look with a kind of modernist Nudie suit style. Really makes for quite a combination with the potent musicianship and music here. Thanks for posting.
Still "hanging in there" all these years later! *big satisfied sigh*
Neil's voice was so strong back then, especially in that lower range
Tu música tocó mi alma
Vocals are superb
Even at this early stage you could tell this band was going to be massive.
They made it fairly well in the US, but in the rest of the world it seems they really got their just due.
This got shown (partially) on MTV Australia from recollection. Nice one. Never seen this in full. Great set list peppered with 'future' CH songs.
You go Eddie!
My favourite keyboard player
Paul’s drumming was so good. His chops are what I remember when I hear them playing live these days
Just saw them in concert this past Thursday in St Augustine Florida. They are still amazing
This is great but it sort of makes me sad how much older we all are now. I miss those days.

Loved this line-up with Eddie on keys in the early days.... such a full sound!
At that point, Neil still retaining an Enz fashion sense.

Very appreciated by those who appreciate them!!

... and still making amazing music.. mind blowing..., I have to ask, why did Eddie not become a permanent member of the group....
Great to see eddie there
😊I enjoy something so stong song it is one of my favorites.❤
I recorded this off the TV on VHS back in the day and played it to death. So glad to find it again.
Any idea where to find just the audio? I used to have a cassette tape of it. Bout wore it out. Can't find it anymore.

@@anne_g1658 It's still amazing and it brings back good memories as well!!!
Not many there but they were working their ass's off.
Good 'ole days.
Fabulous ✨
Fantastic.
Wish I had been there!
Te Amo tu Música y tu estarán en mi hasta mi final
Joyous
Sublime.
Awesome
Do you get the feeling that Neil was a tad pissed at the equipment?!? A great early gig showing the immense talent .

Hi. Would you happen to have any Mentals live shows?
Yeah I do
@@AussieTVMusic Great! Iooking forward to seeing them at some point!
Great show at an interesting time in their career! Only blemish is the sometimes very cheesy keyboards which are so dated.
