    I realize that I'm weird, but the check-in process is part of the excitement for me. I get that the lines can probably get tedious, but even when I'm physically tired after a long trip, the whole check-in thing is just energizing and exciting to me. It's like a little ceremony telling me I'm really there now!

    The direct to room option on your phone is awesome. We never even saw the front desk our whole trip. We got there early went right to MK and boom got a text saying our room was ready. At the end of our day went to the room the app told us to go to. Used my phone to unlock our door and there was our luggage. Great service.

    During my last visit in 2012, we saw one parade in Magic Kingdom and well, actually, we watched most of the parade on people's iPads that they were holding up over their heads to video record the parade. Hopefully, this year, we only have to deal with 100's of smartphones in front of us instead. Seriously, we probably will skip the parade and catch up on a few rides while everyone else watches the parade.

    I've been watching DFB videos to get ready for our summer trip. It is the BEST info available for 'everything' Disney. The name Disney FOOD Blog is misleading - even though they give us everything about food, they also have the best current info on all the parks with great videos and pictures. Yes, it's food - but it's also literally EVERYTHING you need to know about all the parks.

    I'm so glad you did this piece. The advice transcends Disney and applies to so many real-world scenarios as well. I have at least a half dozen food/coffee businesses that I pre-order from and breeze right by the lines. I probably wouldn't be doing that had Molly not hammered it into us to always use the mobile order app at Disney. Checking into my WDW hotels, using the phone as a key, pre-ordering food, making fast-pass, etc. has become indispensable. THIS is the real Tomorrowland.

      16 years since I was last at Disney World, although I went to Disneyland only 5 years ago. It's just "A Whole New World" now. While I'd like to go again, I have other things on my bucket list. Plus, now that I'm retired, the cost is a major consideration. Finally, I have a medical issue right now that even an afternoon spent at a shopping mall sets me back. We were supposed to go on vacation to another part of Florida next month, but I can't do it now. And that medical issue keeps me from riding my favorite Disney World rides now, too.

      It’s ok, my moms and brothers last trip was Xmas/New Years 05/06. My mom naturally was in charge of everything, so she doesn’t really understand how different it is now. You can’t make dining reservations from your hotel room several days out. You can’t make a mad dash to a ride to get a piece of paper that will let you ride it later that day. You can’t stay at deluxe resorts anymore unless you make at least a 6 figure income, and have no plans on retiring. And no matter how adult you are, no matter how introverted you are, you can’t keep the line moving by not interacting with a character, even if you offer up your first born as a distraction.

    An entire video that demonstrates how Disney is clueless about why many of us go to theme parks: to escape our phones! Phones totally ruin the immersion, even in Galaxy’s Edge. I’ve never seen people in the Star Wars universe carrying smart phone style devices ever (nor using anything aside from a droid to translate things). I wouldn’t say that using a smart phone makes your Disney experience “much much better”, but rather that, these days, not using a smart phone will actually make the Disney experience worse.
    Checking in at the hotel was often a special thing where we had the opportunity to interact with some great cast members, and have received neat things like autographed character photos to celebrate special occasions and free room upgrades.

    Is there a way/app to figure out transport when going between resorts or parks? Like POR -> Poly or HS ->MK? I want to cut down on travel times with the fastest forms of transportation.

    • @charliehuffman326
      @charliehuffman326 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be handy, but not available on the app, at least not right now. And currently, Disney doesn't offer direct transportation service between resorts - you have to go to an intermediate location like one of the parks or Disney Springs and then transfer to a bus to the other resort (the exception being the resorts located on the monorail - Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary - are all accessible to each other with a quick ride on the monorail, and some of the Magic Kingdom resorts offer boat service between them - like between Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge).
      Between parks, experiences will vary, and there is direct (but infrequent) bus service between all parks. In my experience, the fastest method between Magic Kingdom and Epcot is the monorail. The fastest method between the Epcot and Hollywood Studios is the Skyliner (or if you are a quick walker, you can walk from one to the other in 15-20 minutes). I am not the fastest walker but once walked from Epcot to Hollywood Studios faster than the boat service between the two parks... For all other inter-park transportation, the buses are probably the fastest (and sometimes only) option, unless you want to pay for an Uber/Lyft or a Minnie Van.
      Specifically between HS and MK, the bus will be quickest. You could do the Skyliner from HS to Epcot, then transfer to the monorail at Epcot to go to MK, but that route would require walking from the back of Epcot where the Skyliner is to the front of Epcot to get on the monorail, and then you'd also have to transfer monorails at the TTC to get to MK, so with all of that added time, the bus would probably be best.

    • @ritajohnson2491
      @ritajohnson2491 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get the band by mail as Disney will send it to your home before your trip. If not, you can pick up the band at the front desk of your hotel.

      Yes, unless you need something in the checked bag immediately upon arrival to your resort. If you let Disney take care of it for you, your bags are usually delivered to your resort within about 3 hours after landing. (If you have already been assigned a room, the bags will go directly to your room; if you - and then subsequently, your bags - all arrive before check-in time, the bags will be delivered to Bell Services at your resort where you can pick them up when later checking in, or let Bell Services deliver them to your room once it's assigned, which means you can be off playing at the parks while it is all being taken care of for you!)

    • @BuckeyeTiffany
      @BuckeyeTiffany 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think so. We arrived at 8:05 am and dropped our carry on at Bell Services. We didn't go back to our hotel until almost 11:00 pm and our checked bags and carry on were both waiting in our hotel room for us. Likewise, it was nice to check in for our flight at the hotel and have them take our checked bags for us when leaving, so we only had to deal with our carry on at the airport.

      You have to take a portable charger. They sell one in the park, I think it's called fuel rod and you can change them out in the parks when they lose charge.

    How does the technology work on the rides when the on-ride pictures automatically show up on the app?

    • @charliehuffman326
      @charliehuffman326 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of the rides with photo captures use RFID (radio frequency identification) technology, which is relayed from your MagicBand when you pass the location the photo is taken, and your MagicBand is tied to your My Disney Experience app on your phone. Otherwise, for a few rides, you wait until you get off the ride and go look for your photo on the screen at the photo station when exiting. When you find your photo, you tap your MagicBand to associate the photo with your My Disney Experience app.

    • @xhpy6760
      @xhpy6760 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally would bring my own portable charger. The phone I used when I went to Disney last summer was new and has tons of battery, I didn’t even have to use my portable charger. BUT, I still understand what it’s like to need to charge a lot, my last phone would drain half it’s battery in a snap! I could never have used it in Disney World, forget about trying to mobil order or get a boarding pass for ROTR!
