Neil plays both Temple Blocks abd cow bells. Temple Blocks in the section in question. Cowbells elsewhere.

Neil said of this song what if trees acted like people.
    Three geniuses in one band.
I am going to suggest Digital Man from the Snakes and Arrows tour.
    Cheers

They are a Niel invention, I believe, small pairs of conical bells...called gogo bells...unique sound

Those were Temple Blocks. Near the end (but not the end) he briefly plays cowbell. At the end, he's back on the blocks. He has both in his kit.
Neil has given two contradictory explanations with the fiest just being inspired by a cartoon about trees acting like people.

The middle section wood blocks wood blocks wood blocks...
They ARE pear shaped like cow bells, but definitely wood. He plays the cows bells in those short six count breaks coming out of the solo.

The trees are a metaphor for “Haves” vs “Have Nots”

If you are going to put captions up on your thumbnail at least learn to spell. It's "definitely" not definately, you really are giving us Brits a bad name.

Nice song, but I am very glad Peart grew up got out of this youthful Randian phase. Just awful lyrics.

Awful is pushing it, but they are simplistic for Neil. Ironically, that’s intentional as it’s meant to be a fable with a metaphor that is open for interpretation as Neil intended. They work for me. The last line especially tends to take listeners aback and causes introspection imo. 😅. Cheers
