Can a Dragon Ball FighterZ scrub handle BlazBlue???

- Blazblue: Central Fiction just got its rollback beta on Steam! Let's discuss the things I like about the game so far, and go through some hype online matches! I'm playing Kagura. This is definitely a step up in difficulty from Dragon Ball FighterZ and Guilty Gear Strive!
Twitch (I stream every weekday from 5-8 EST): / jmcrofts

I think it's a testament to how cool this game is that people are willing to endure the struggle
It’s a game worth the geind
As a Strive scrub picking up Tager helped a lot lol. I struggled with high jump cancel and manual dash in some cases.
Also his combos feel much more easier to me in general compared to the rest of the cast.
Or they're masochistic.
As someone who loves this game a lot, but is still most definitely a beginner in it, I have a couple beginner tips that took me a bit to understand once I first started the game, as well as I think I can answer some of the questions in the vid. I hope this helps.
First things first, teching. In BB you have to hold a button to "tech", aka to recover as soon as there is a window from hitstun. You can neutral tech, and tech in any direction by holding it alongside a button, *but* directional techs are NOT fully invulnerable. That means your default recovery option should be to tech without holding a direction and *then* hold back to block. Directional teching and "no-teching" do have their uses in the correct situations on high level play, but they are fairly risky. I've been hit many times by accidentally back teching.
Then comes burst, and more specifically JM's question "should you burst early?". The answer is you *can* but it's considered unconventional. This is because the burst resource is also used for Overdrive, which is a very versatile resource both defensively (invulnerable activation) and offensively (fat damage), with incredibly high reward. So that's the main factor to consider when thinking burst in BB.
Lastly, anti airs. In this game, 2C is often an anti air with most characters, 6A is also one with a solid ammount. The way they work in this game isn't like guilty gear though, instead of making your upper body invulnerable to anything, they make your *whole* body invulnerable to attacks with the "head" property, so any attack that hits with said property, usually aerials and a couple other grounded exceptions, will whiff, even if they would hit your shins. There are also some anti airs with no invulnerability and just a good hitbox too, of course.
Hope this helps other people just starting the game to better understand a couple of things!
GOOD INFO
thank you!
Great advice! Adding to the topic of teching, holding 7A+B is the safest method because you FD in the air and you neutral tech on the groud (instead of rolling), so you're safe against non-throw resets either way.
God tier comment. Thanks!
Im new to fighting game... wtf am I reading
Turn anti-aliasing off, bloom off, vsync off, play in Fullscreen 1080p. With those settings you drop input delay from 5.5 frames to 3.5 frames
Thanks bro
That's helpful af.
thanks
Damn I don’t want to cut off AA but if it drops two frames of input lag I may have to.
Do we know if there is a significant difference between MSAA and FXAA?
hey
I love how BB is being revived :) lots of new people coming to play just shows you how important rollback is. Bless ASW
Finally they learn their lesson bad netcode dead game and low sales
Eh, thier games were lasting a good long while and sold good even before rollback. Literally the ONLY reason dev's have been putting rollback is because of COVID. No amount of complaining would've done anything otherwise unfortunately(and that's the ONLY thing you can thank COVID for.)
@@humaneshadow300 Not really. This game will go back to being dead in a couple of months. And this is coming from someone who's stuck with and has been playing BBCF for years. That's just the nature of things. People will check it out and go back to their main game. Not to mention that the game has sold pretty well in the last few years despite the age. Surprisingly enough. I mean, they still port CF to systems despite it being like 2 generations old
@@Lee-fw5bd playerbase would shrink greatly but having like 300-500 concurrent players would be enough for it to not be dead
Lmao, nah fam. server lobby lists are still dry asf. Only mainly find ranked matches. . . And good luck going against someone who's been there for years 😂
BlazBlue character trials in bound? 👀
Nah, too hard for most noobs. We may see like 5 hour streams of failure though XD.
Naoto trials 👀
@@Hinoga My hands hurt so much
It really feels like a brand new game with all the new people coming into this game bring a tear to my eye. Blazblue will always be my favorite fighting game series, it's so much fun.
Absolutely more BlazBlue. Keep up the good work and share what you enjoy playing!
BlazBlue was one of the first fighting games I ever took seriously, I met my best friend in highschool and she introduced me to this game back in 2015. Jubei (my main) wasn't even out at the time, but I fell in love with Susano and can confidently say that he made me obsessed with anime fighters instantly. Can't wait for the inevitable P4U2 content when that gets rereleased, great video
Glad you had fun in the games jm! Hope to see you around more!
This game is the embodiment of freedom player expression + depth character mechanic, its doesnt matter how hard the game is, because its fun to play
What makes the game hard to play?
Agreed, BlazBlue is such and expressive game and the way someone chooses a "main" is usually very indicative of that person's personality. It's really fun.
CF and +R are the two games that immediately come to mind when I hear the words "player expression". Sure, there may be what can be considered optimal decisions or combos in some situations, but more often than not, nothing is stopping from coming up with your own gimmicky stuff, specially if you have meter
Mean while my friends that play's nothing but fighterz & suck that game off to no end always tried to make fun of me playing BlazBlue & kept saying it's just some "anime fighter" unironically
@@ken7007 At least its not Xenoverse lmao
Me: Finally, I beat Lichi Fey Ling trials.
Game: Congratulations, you unlocked Hard Trials.
Me: 😱
I will say, that's the most aggressively that I've seen a charge character being played, then again, your character also being a stance character makes a difference rather than being the standard turtling Guile.
You should check out skullgirls
Blanka and Urien are charge characters with mad aggro.
@@SnackLive Parasoul: "Pathetic..."
People seem to forget that Leo is also a charge character
@@Quirkee37 I mean, his projectile and "DP" are charge... those are inherently defensive moves. His aggro moves are quarter circles.
The first BB was *mostly really easy. There were a few hard characters but mostly pretty simple. Also, Rachel is the best
Rachel is one few hard charo because her d drive moves and movement is strict. But if anyone can deal with that she's scary
Then there's Carl.
screw Carl.
I agree 3rd Strike is definitely the top dog when it comes to character sprites and animation. Blazblue and KOFXIII both follow in whatever particular order, both are stunning games that offer beautifully detailed character and stage art in spades. I personally find that BBCF’s art looks better on your more standard LCD HD panel due to the flashier, busier, more vibrantly colored content.
KOFXIII on the other hand looks GODLIKE on a CRT. Like truly transformative, it makes the game go from very attractive…to OMG this is one of the SMOOTHEST, MOST BEAUTIFUL thing’s that I’ve ever laid my eyes on…(it still falls short of 3rd Strike mind you, the animations while great are, still not on par with the ridiculous amount of fluidity present across every member of the 3S cast).
Yoooo I also just picked up a BBCF and picked Kagura as my choice of character. Glad to see someone else play him cause I rarely see anyone else playing him.
I am so hyped for this. I played for an entire 24 hours when the update dropped. going to play more in just a bit.
I bought this game like 6 months ago and stopped playing it in the first 2 hours because my pc is really bad and sometimes the matches started to go on slow motion for me, now that they added rollback netcode to the game i really want to buy a better pc so i can have a better experience with Blazblue which is a really sick game
Haha I used my stimulus check to buy a really great gaming laptop, I normally wouldn’t have spent money on that type of thing but since they just gave me 1300 buckaroos I felt it necessary. No regrets, PC gaming is poggers
There is a mod that lets you run blazblue on worse PCs. It is called the improvement mod
@@saltyfox1321 when i try to put mods on any game i always mess up and end up screwing the files
@@SomeoneThatIsHappy me too but you can always reset the file integrity on steam
@@saltyfox1321 i'll try it then, thank you for the help :)
I've played BlazBlue on and off casually for several years now and it's great to see more people finally getting into my favorite fighting game. As a TH-camr that plays a lot of fighting games, I would love to see you going through the roster and discussing their quirks or going through combo trials just to show off the crazy combos. Either way, please keep up the BlazBlue content. The more people see this, the more the community will grow!
I love how Arcsys by coincidence both has a Naoto Kurogane (Kuro - Black) and a Naoto Shirogane (Shiro - White)
Exactly what I've been craving. Love a jmcrofts video
Naoto may look like a generic protag, but he breaks your fingers in ways you can scarcely imagine. Gonna be a lot of Naoto warriors online now that you can actually perform his combos with rollback.
Facts lmao wasnt no way in hell to pull those dash cancels off reliably online
@@bigfredbigfred2760 Dash cancels to create like two frame links no less. His optimal shit is some of the hardest to pull off in any fighting game IMO.
@@kevinb5417 Naoto player here, it's not *that* crazy, but it is pretty hard.
There is a buffer in this game, 3 frames, so as long as you input your cancels and such early enough, it's never actually too hard to get things out as fast as possible.
There isn't really anything that optimal Naoto does that other characters don't, it's just that you *have* to do it to make Naoto worth while. While his buttons are pretty good despite being short (or slow, for his drive), if you don't use his dash cancel mechanic, all of the combos that are left are very underwhelming.
I got through his combo trials in… like.. 4 hours. It was definitely the hardest one for me. Not a character I want to play
@@SaberToothPortilla Yeah I wasn't considering the buffer timing. And optimal was the wrong word. If anything is more accurate to say that playing him at a baseline, intermediate level is much harder than the average character. It's true that there are plenty of characters in the franchise that have equally outrageous combo routes - it just feels as though Naoto has to work much harder to achieve similar combo damage to most of the cast. I definitely could have phrased that better and with less bias.
I'm so happy to see more people play BlazBlue
Also, as a piece of advice, Barrier Blocking, Instant Blocking, and Instant Barrier Blocking will help out immensely in dealing with corner pressure.
Man, when things work out, Amane is such a beautiful thing to see
Please, more BlazBlue content! :D
More BB would be great, I got hardcore hooked on CT when it came out and it's still one of my favourite franchises. I should get the steam version again now that I don't have a console anymore, the rollback addition is awesome. Get that Taokaka swinging again :)
I'd love to see some more BlazBlue, there's so much to love about this game. It's good to be back to my first Fighting Game with such a different perspective on the genre.
Yes more BB, just picked it up and I need a lot of help bc I have never played one before!
would love to see some more videos of this game. i've picked it up recently, been having fun playing Amane
My favorite fighting game series. I own every installment of BlazBlue. One of the few fighting games where I actually learned 90% of the cast. The characters are insanely fun in their own ways. And the combos, once learned, are epic. Very rewarding. And the art, music, and lore is top notch.
Hazama has always been my favorite character in Blazblue, this guy is SO COOL. I find him pretty hard to play though...
same, man
He’s a very fun stance character, if you use the overhead from his Serpent stance you can do standing C
Forward C
Standing D
Eternal Coils of the Dragon serpent
for good damage
The only real hurdle when playing Hazzy is adjusting to his quirkiness. Sure, he has very unconventional movement options and a lot of his combos require you to learn how to microdash but once you get past those barriers, he becomes extremely smooth to play.
@@Viewtiful_Gamer
That's an alright combo for sealing the round but you're kind of selling it short by ending it so early. 6C >5D is a universal combo route for him and he can get a lot of mileage out of it without spending any meter.
@@Skallva oh wow really? I didn’t know you could add more to it, I noticed a lot of Hazama’s use that string almost universally but I’m still picking him up alongside Terumi and Ragna
I fired CTII for a refresher then remembered how pad-unfriendly the chars I like are and decided to keep waiting for DNFD instead.
But I'm happy for all the BB fans who got one of their dreams come true. Hoping this wave of support convinced ArcSys to make a new game in the near future.
i know im late but this is important..
-Active Flow
By performing multiple offensive actions in a row, players can go into Active Flow. When you are close to entering Active Flow, the message "Attention" will appear next to the character and their burst icon will start spinning more rapidly.
During Active Flow:
All attacks gain a 10% damage boost.
Burst regeneration speed increases by a factor of four.
Exceed Accel base damage approximately doubles.
Active Flow won't always be available:
Active Flow is only available once per round.
Using a Burst immediately ends Active Flow and disables it for the rest of the round.
also don't forget about
-Ground and Air Recovery
-Barrier Block
-Counter Assault
-Crush Trigger
-Guard Cancel Overdrive
-Overdrive Cancel
-Rapid Cancel
ok glad its not just me LOL. i havent been able to pick a main in BBCF because im still having hard time grasping the general “feel” of the game on top of being confused&overwhelmed by all the system mechanics. im spoiled and lazy from all the GGST ive been playing, every character feels difficult
try picking up Mai or Hibiki.
Pick Terumi, really easy character to play and combo with.
Picked this game up a couple days ago. It’s been super fun so far.
for a moment i was upset because i recommended blazblue to you some time ago and you said you weren't interested in the game, but if central fiction got rollback then i get why you would play it now. happy to see it on the channel
I'm not good at BB but I love it regardless. Mai Natsume player here
I was like crazy JMCRofts feeling the same character I picked as a main then I see his color choice and I'm like damn I must be watching this dude's channel and twitch to much because that's the same color I chose too
Let’s go!
Kagura have variety of moves and effects in his stances. His neutral A hit have armour and you also can dash forward(or backward) after hit. It's have plenty more practice to get more consistent with stance cancels
More BlazBlue content! Also, you play probably the most exciting Kagura I've ever seen personally. Loving the "scrubby" Kagura
Check out Haru's Kagura!
You should look into kaguras strengths and weaknesses, as well as the special properties some of his moves have. In a lot of these matches you were kind of playing yourself out of the game. because of his range and slower poke moves, you should focus more on defense and counter hits instead of chasing people too. Once you push the opponent to the corner its over once you learn a few of his big damage combos off of a few different starters.
Where is a good place to learn these properties?
@@blazaybla22 dustloop bbcf
So a cool kagura tip in case you didn't know, you can press drive and the attack button at the same time to make the move come out as quick as possible. It makes his combos a lot easier. A pretty good combo route is do some normals ending in 2C, and if the opponent is close by go into his 2DC (if not 6DA will help that), 5DC immediately start holding 3 after you perform the input. 3 is important, because the second hit of 5DC sends the opponent to the other side, so when that happens the game reads it as holding 1. At that point go into his 28C, but instead of pressing 8, press 7. The game will still read it as an 8, and when you use his 82C followup, press 1 instead. The reason being the game will read the entire sequence as you having held 2 the entire time, allowing you to use his 46B as soon as you hit the ground if you so desire to cover your approach. Also his 46 A is safe on block. So is the B version, but startup makes it not a viable guardstring option.
It´s always nice to see some BBCF.
I loooove BlazBlue! Every character is his/her own fighting game lol. That soundtrack is also 👌 🔥!
I bought BBCF back in 2019 on sale because my friend said he wanted to try it at some point. We never played but it paid off for me in the end. This game is sick and I’m loving Jin
really cool man can't wait to see more blazblue uploads from you :)
I'm not sure Kagura was the best first choice lol but glad anyone new is playing bbcf
Kagura is awesome I love tarumi relious and velkinhiem hellsing
I hope they put bbcf on sale for PlayStation when will come with rollback
Yo that naoto combo was sick, hopefully this guy levels up and pops into the tourney scene
Awesome! you picked the same main that i have 🤣🤣.. i'm loving the fact this game has rollback now.. so awesome
I don't know much about BlazeBlue and was gonna skip it, but dang. Some of these characters are absolutely wild
Play it it's great I you like challenging fighting games with a GREAT story
Don't skip it dude. Easily one of the best fighters ever made!
He's not joking about how hard this game is. I haven't played since Central Fiction came out either & when I 1st bought the game, it came with a separate Tutorial DVD.😳
I been playing BlazBlue for 10 years I glad this underrated game gets rollback. Don't burst if you had to your overdrive is super important and very useful for big damage and combo rout's
I'm not in the twitch chat but 6+D, C is really good in and out of combos. 2+D, C is a good follow up after 6+D, B. Also for his stance moves you can hold the button to get the earliest possible input after the stance change.
I miss this game and really wish rollback got pushed to PS4 too
Haven't played BlazBlue competitively since cs2 but I would love to get into it again with the new traction
Oh my god i missed hear fujiwara keiji's voice
RIP
I was hesitant about buying this game since i was looking for something more challenging than Unist. I'm convinced, definitely will get into this game.
I'd def like to see some BBCF action on this channel.
Yes, more Blazblue!!
i like to call drive the "gimmick button"
not sure how much of this info will be something you already know or not from other sources
as someone who playes kagura a fair bit your doing all right, its mostly bin knowlage checks of how your moves work vs other people(outside of something like 6D-B into 2D-C you need to be faster to get it to combo). kaguras moves outside of his stance attacks and charges are just general hitboxes without special extra with them other then HBFP protierys. ones that i find noteworthy are 6D-C is projectile inv(be warry of this it has a extended hurt box passed the tip of his sword and ive seen some stupid things happen with this), 6D-A and 6D-B both have body inv(B the cross up one has all inv after i think it crosses up), 5D-C has head inv so just go to anti air that beats out alot, and if counter it wall bounces for combos, 2D-A foot and throw inv that also hits overhead, and the one that is my peronsal fav out of kaguras kit 5D-A, this has guard point on head, body, foot, and projectile but gets beat out by throws and lows(kaguras 2C is a good example of it being foot but not a low so it gets guard pointed on this, and a body that hits low even if i dont think they exist in this game would beat it out). sideish note, well in his overdrive stances are unlimited with most stance moves gaining bonus properties like 2D-B(surfboard) has alot more hit stun allowing it to combo with more moves
outright because how stances are for him, alot of his preasure is actually a bit fake and if you know how to call them out can get hella punished. but thats the mixup in this game. oh and good lucky with figuring out the HBLs of moves, it takes alot even with the dustloop and im still learning which ones are for which match up still to this day
also no you cant super cancel on wiff, hell cant even gatling other the mai. making the opponent wiff is actually the biggest punishes this game will do, which is why the attribute inv moves are so big
Type Lumina has gorgeous sprite work.
Shame the game blows.
For me, I love the X-Men:CotA/Darkstalkers/SFA style sprites. But SFIII definitely has some great sprite work too. Another is Art of Fighting 3. I love the Sprites in that one. If memory serves, I think they were rotoscoped.
When I do 360s on a Hitbox (all buttons) I do a half circle > neutral > up + button. Works pretty consistently for me trying out Jubei, though I only started playing today so I haven't had to rely on that input mid combo yet or anything
Hey you can hold d and the button you want out of stance at the same time. I find it makes it easier to combo stance move that way. Just kinda have to hold them down for a sec.
Have been having a blast playing Bang/Jin =)
SO many characters to still learn and play against.
Not experienced with BB, used to DBFZ, last BB game you played was Calamity Trigger... And you're starting out by playing Kagura? Why do you do this to yourself?
EDIT: I wanted to post some match up-specific advice, but there is so much I don't remember about this game. I'll pick it up again and make a more detailed/useful comment next time you upload a BB video.
Ayy, he plays Kagura too
NEVER be afraid of just doing Kagura dp. 8fr start up+ fr 1-17 is OD! Kagura gang ✊
blazblue was my first ever fighting game i looked at seriously, so happy to see it coming back
HOT TAKE: JM is the new Maximillian :D they both give the same energy and I'm living for both
Man you gotta hit that sword uppercut on command you could def force some panic if you take away air
continue for sureeeeee
I remember my introduction to BlazBlue. My "friend" invited me over to his apartment. He spent the next 45 minutes killing me in the same combo lock so he could practice. I think the only move he taught me was hitting all the hit buttons to do a combo break. I've never hated fighting game players as much as I did then. Jim gives me faith in fighting gamers and humanity again.
The rollback is good but not exactly what i care for, it's the fact that a ton of people are now flocking to this game and going into ranked for the first time in forever that's putting a smile on my face. I have been endlessly fighting nothing but computers in versus and arcade mode for about a year now, so to finally have some real flesh humans for me to sink my teeth into sparked my love for the game again.
Even as someone who only ever plays the computer, I love the fact that BBCF got rollback since now people are making videos on it again. :)
I don't know if someone already said this but in blazblue atacks have atributes being body, head and foot normaly lows are foot atribute jump atacks are head and standing normals are body the idea is if an atack has for to say head invul it´s invul only to head atributes atack aka jump ins this catagorizantion is intresting cuz create dedicated anti-air buttons and high profile buttons withow creating weird interactions such as 6p in gg and dont exist universal anti air each character is diferent and some dosent even has one anti-air kagura 5d-c follow-up has head invul so will always beat jump ins clean for example
Yes please try out bbtag when the patch drops!!
Finally we may get the combo trials for this game
I have the game but it on ps4 I just might have to get it on steam I play jubei cuz I like him
If you’re going to might as well get it while it’s still on sale. Pretty sure it’s still on sale, but I could be wrong.
more blazeblue please! would love to see some character guides. this game is awesome.
I think Type Lumina Sprites being amazing is like a double edged sword. Like I don’t see them having that clear cut sprite stylization that helps +R and CF stand out regardless of age. I can see myself down the line going “ why didn’t they just give this the SIGN treatment. Also BEST sprites has got to be KoF13 without a doubt.
Third Strike animation is better than KOF has ever had.
I'm excited to have an excuse to play some BlazBlue again. Time to give my self carpal tunnel trying Naoto combos.
Did you turn off vsync also I would love more BBCF I’ve been loving this game
More!!!
Next blazblue vid should be the trial do Naoto's first they're pretty easy
I have an older copy of the Blaze Blue franchise and i like Kagura too
bursting is used for when you absolutely must use it. since overdrive mode is super powerful as a way to blow up people.
Rollback netcode update for consoles when?
Good vid as always
Is rollback only for the pc version or when the patch is out it'll come to consoles too?
BlazBlue is that classic unhinged fighting game. It gets you goin
I’m so glad blazblue is getting more play :)) it’s one of my all time favorites. I love my homies Taokaka and Hibiki
I love blazblue; haven’t played in ages though. None of my friends never got into it so I would only play against randos. Would like to come back to it sun day
Now they just gotta fix ranked match to allow you to rematch
Doesn't Amane do more damage if your opponent shields or am I misremembering things?
As his drill level ups it does more chip damage he probably still does more damage if you actually hit them with a combo but big chip damage is still super strong
Yep chip damage
It does hella damage in general
I like to use Makoto, she's a great rush down character.
She low tier but she is my fav it's just so rewarded when you hit those perfect lvl3 charges.
I love blazblue but i dropped it on CF because they cancelled the english dub for it and couldn't transition to the original VA. So i havent played a blazblue game since Chrono phantasma. I'm really happy that the game is still alive though.
