NO WAY YOU ARE REACTING TO STARSETTTTT edit: this is exactly what they're like live, it's insane. I watched them in Virginia last year and it was probably the best concert I've been to
I saw them in Norfolk in June 2023 and again for AE02 in November. I also saw them in Silver Spring, MD on the first leg of the Horizons tour, with The Word Alive, and the AE01 show in Hampton. AE01 was my first live show in 17 years, oof.
An absolutely amazing band that actually does sound that good live. I’ve seen them several times and met them. They are amazing guys. One of my prized possessions is a midi keyboard they used on tour that had broken the night before the show I went to. It’s signed by all of the members too!
@@davidzietlow3480 yea I’ve got their book and a windbreaker signed! They are really cool guys. They have a good relationship with the local radio station here in Wisconsin.
You're so rights, the way Starset make strings work so beautifully in their song, even in their most heavy songs, it's perfection. You should listen to their latest songs, they're really tallented and amazing.
Their live is usually very loyal to the original album recording. With this live is that it's quite edited/tuned to sound better. The song definitely sounds a little different, especially the drums, strings and the synths. Strings almost sound digital in here where in album recording its a pretty solid, raw clean strings. This live is just edited digitally to sound crisper.
I saw them with Breaking Benjamin last year. They sound exactly like this live, no flaws or imperfections. They were also wearing these exact same outfits and stage setup! It was AMAZING! My 12 yr old daughter fell in love with them as well after seeing them live! 🎶🎸✌️🤘🫶🎤
I can also confirm that this sounds live than anything else. The voice is more raw, he even slightly hit a flat in several parts when comparing to the mp3. The instruments are also differently mixed than the mp3, so this is very easily live to me. I have listened to the mp3 of this song so many times, I can hear all the small differences.
😮 No way!! You finally did it and reacted to my all-time favorite cinematic rock band STARSET! I'm a die hard STARSET fan, so this just makes me happy! 🔥💜 They're so amazing and Dustin Bates is something else! That man's voice and his stage charisma is absolutely mesmerizing! I've discovered STARSET in the summer of 2020, it was a hard time, I've lost my beloved mom because of camcer and then I listened to their music... Lot of stuff changed since then and I'm grateful, because their music kept me going and still do! I finally saw them STARSET Live in Munich in Germany during thrir Horizons EU TOUR, I've met the band, even talked to Dustin - which was my favorite part - it was their VIP acoustic session before their demonstration! STARSET calling their concerts demonstrations and it was a truly otherworldly experience! I was dead tired after the show, train traveling and fell directly into bed, but it was worth it!
There are some eletronic sounds that are being played in VS. But the vocal is live for shure, there are a little imperfections that aren't in the studio recording. And there are some line vocals that he does in a diferent way in this video
Definitely live the studio recording doesn't scream. Dustin has a crazy range I think he's going beyond his comfort zone soon. They wear 2 different costumes generally they try to switch it up for their fans. I've been to 5 of there vip and concerts (demos) they have blown me away everytime.
Lol yes, they wear these ones for their last two albums and then have even cooler space type get ups for their first two albums. They’re so good live and put on a great show. Dustin’s vocals are definitely live as for the rest of it their may be some parts that got tweaked for the video? But overall it sounds varied enough from the recording version
Starset have a couple of live acoustic performances on their youtube channel. I highly recommend checking them out if you want to hear a more "raw" kind of sound than in this particular video (which is still a live recording, just with some editing to make it sound better)
Also - as far as this being live, this was one of those "For DVD" live performances - it's obviously "touched up" after recording, but the performance itself is 100% live and honestly not far off. You can't really perfectly replicate the experience and sound of a live performance in a video - it just can't be done. I don't think this is a problem honestly, and I appreciate the thoughtfulness and effort they put into it all the same. Their studio tracks are incredible as it is, and as far as their live shows go, it's gotten much better over the years. Dustin (the vocalist) IMO used to struggle mightily with some of the songs in their catalog but he's improved drastically, to the point where now they're one of those rare acts that are better live.
Love Starset for their sound and creativity. Have listin7ng to them since the first album and single "My demons". If your going to find more Starset , "My demons" was their and still is their biggest hit. Amazing song.
Absolutely love Starset, been following them since the very beginning and found Dustin through listening to his previous band Downplay. Managed to come full circle where I got to see them live in Bristol in February 2020 right before Covid took hold and it was an incredible gig. They really are this good live! I believe for this particular album "DIVISIONS", Luke Holland came into to do the drums for the record (highly recommend you check him out if you haven't). Their albums are also based thematically on Space and Astronomy which they have also built a backstory and lore surrounding "The Starset Society" which they receive mysterious signals from space and relay the message onto humanity, often tackling current social issues from the perspective of emerging technology and how they impact the world. Listening through their albums in full is a joy and everything ties together so nicely! I haven't managed to listen to their latest record yet (from 2021 I know) but Transmissions, Vessels, and DIVISIONS are all fantastic and worth a listen through!
It’s fully live all the instruments and vocals. Just with a bit of processing to fine tune the sound. Nothing major to take away from the live sound. Furthermore you can tell it’s not a studio recording because in the last chorus dustin doesn’t do the regress line and the nuisances in his voice stand out. If you want to go the extra mile, look up the phone recorded version from the live demonstration in 2019 of this recording and you will find they are the same live recordings
What you are hearing IS live...Starset have taken a unique approach and are actually capturing their live performancesm which is why we get such an amazing performance with good sound...THE QUESTION IS: WHY.
Off topic, but I’ve seen a number of your reactions and they are substantive. You know what you’re talking about. I’d love to see you do a reaction to Vulpek’s Back Pocket. I think it’s right in your wheelhouse. And the video showcases some playful choreography with a couple of talented young dancers
STARSET generally brings almost studio like quality to their tours. They actually just added another band member recently whose only job is actually to mix audio live so everything sounds exactly as they expect it will. I just think that's sick.
I've seen them live a few times now and this is def live. His voice sounds weirdly edited even live xD I do think they smoothed out the sound for the video but yeah this is not a studio recording
I somehow missed the song while looking through the albums, and heard it for the first time when I was lucky enough to make it to one of their concerts. I was immediately jotting it down to add to my playlist, it was so good
Oh faq yeah, this is one of the sci-fi king of music😎 I think Dreamcatcher, Infected, Or Stratosphere are my favorite tracks from them. my demons is a classic too; it’s amazing how these guys blend together science theory into making story with music🤘🏻🖤
Also: This is definitely 100% LIVE, because you can't hear that "REGRESS" Dustin normally screams at the end! His vocal range is out of this world, amazing dude! They have two types if demonstrations: Rebel (post-apocalyptic) and New West style (futuristic, it's all part of their overarching narrative and lore! If you want to know the meaning about the band's name, you should read their book: THE PROX TRANSMISSIONS or just ask me 😅
Only saw them acoustic, but Dustin sounded like he does on the albums, live. Me and a hundred-ish of their fans. What. A. Show. One of my top bands in my life. Ohio kids, too. Go Bucks 10:42
starset is phenomenal! they have a very unique sound imo. they have A LOT of songs you need to hear! But also I'd recommend even hearing their singer's first band named Downplay, also very good most people haven't heard of them. i would recommend songs "save me" "hated you from hello" or "the one who laughs last" (my favorite)
Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! Slight correction: I have never been cool. Also, this is a long-ass comment, so I'll say up front that you should do their song Ricochet next, and then one of the heavy tracks (Into The Unknown, Telekinetic, Devolution, or look up the Adam Gilbert drum cover of Starset - Kashmir), and then choose an album closer (Everglow or Diving Bell get my vote). Dustin calls their sound "cinematic rock," which definitely fits the first two albums well. They have moved away from that a bit with the more recent stuff, although they still have strings on every song. This obviously has some post-production to clean it up (there's no way the crowd was that quiet) and mix it, and the synth at this point was pre-recorded, but the rest of it was definitely recorded live. The vocals are a lot different on the studio track. So a bit more info about Starset: in the studio, it's just Dustin and he collabs on songwriting with a lot of different people and brings in session musicians to record, not the touring members. e.g. Luke Holland, who is one of the best drummers in the world and is currently the touring drummer for Falling In Reverse, did the drums for this album (Divisions). Ron (bass), Brock (guitar - and again, they use baritone guitars), and Adam (drums - he has the most "flair" of any drummer I've seen, tons of stick twirls and tosses and he has never dropped a stick or missed a beat that I've seen) have been touring with the band for about 9 years. Around 2017, with the release of their second album (my FAVORITE album, not just of theirs, but of anyone's, ever), Vessels, they added a cellist and violinist to their live shows, which they call demonstrations. Siobhan Cronin (violinist, who is now married to Brock) is an incredible violinist and does all kinds of fun projects when she's not touring. They have had several cellists but Zuzana Engererova has been with them the longest, since I think 2019. Also, they went from Europe (this was in Paris) to Russia in early 2020 and almost got stuck in Siberia when Covid hit. Thankfully they made it back to the States just before they shut down all flights back to the US. In late 2021, the first tour back since Covid, they added a seventh live member, Cory Juba. He was the final piece to make the band truly able to replicate the studio sound without having anyone pulling double and triple duty. Dustin used to have this giant glass tablet, glorified iPad thing that controlled all the synth and pre-recorded stuff and kind of kept him tied to one spot on the stage. Now for the super nerdy parts: Dustin was a PhD candidate, basically just had to complete and defend his dissertation, for avionic engineering when his previous band, Downplay got signed to Epic Records, so at that point he quit his job and studies to pursue music. The label changed management in the midst of it and the new people came in and wanted to make all these changes and put all these requirements on him that he didn't want to follow, so the contract fell apart. He didn't want to give up on music, so he came up with this insanely intricate lore and from that came the basis for Starset. He wrote a novel explaining the lore called The Prox Transmissions., which was later adapted as a graphic novel in collaboration with Marvel, so pretty much every comic-obsessed nerdy kid's dream come true. There are two more novels and a fifth album in the works right now. The first album, called Transmissions, was recorded without being signed and he managed to build up a pretty decent fanbase and get on the radio without the help of a record label. Dustin actually used a bunch of songs that were originally written for Downplay, but they still work with the lore, and he wrote a bunch of new stuff as well. They did eventually get picked up by Razor & Tie, which then became Fearless. After four albums, they are not under contract anymore so we'll find out when they release new music if they signed with a different label or went independent. They now have almost 3 million monthly Spotify listeners. The lore in a nutshell is that a scientist received a transmission from space that was also from the near future, warning of man's imminent demise because of over-reliance on technology and extreme capitalism. The band is supposed to be an official spokesman of sorts to spread the message giving the warning, so yes, they are always in costume on stage. Sometimes they wear New West costumes (the white and black outfits - New West Industries is part of the evil megacorp, so I guess they are supposed to be propagandists in those outfits), and on their recent tours they have changed costumes mid-set (while a propaganda video about the BMI plays) into their old school outfits where Dustin wears a bowtie and glasses and the other three original guys wear space suits like they did in the band's early days. In the very very beginning, they wouldn't break character for interviews and such, but that didn't last long.
They have a fictional story with every album and stuff hence the name :D Edit: yeah well I'm not really sure but I just connect it like that since I'm literally in love with the story and the world they created
I see a lot of people say they sound like this live.. and that makes me super happy.. because they sounded very bad back in the days.. He has improved his vocals so much
I hope this made you a Starset fan! One of the best things to come from Ohio! If you listen to the original you can tell this is live! I love their acoustic music also! Fun watch sir!
First 2 albums were masterpieces, first concert north of the border here was scheduled to be June 2020 but then what happened... and they haven't come yet...
It's live but I believe it's highly produced. I believe they were also using backing tracks for the electronic stuff at this time. They're trying to play the electronics live too but... Dustin's voice sounds cleaner in the studio recording.
I’ve seen them live and they sound great. Just as is the case when you listen to Dayseeker. These are just really gifted vocalists who don’t need a ton of processing on their vocals to sound “perfect”. They are just that good. To answer your questions about costumes, when I saw them, they split up their show based on their new album they were covering and had two costume changes from first half and second half.
Fun fact about Starset: Adam doesnt write the studio drum parts. Theyve had Luke Holland do some of the drumming on certain albums for them, and Adam does the live and touring parts
This is definitely live, although they also definitely added some autotune to his mic or like a post-recording thing, but its definitely live with a bit of added autotune
Some of their acoustic material is also really really cool, you should give it a go too :). And I'm going to shout out Halestorm if you want some more epicness and a great great female voice in rock. They have such great songs and performances (in The Live Room for example)
It's definitely live, but heavily processed on the vocals. Having seen them about 30 times, Dustin was not amazing live and didn't use the healthiest of practices so it hurt him in performances. Since the pandemic lock down, most of that seemed to fix itself and he has worked on it severely. But their live shows are always fun and interesting. They had a lot of tracks playing during their old shows and have since brought on someone to do a lot of that stuff on synths and whatnot to make it more "live" than it was.
Have you reacted to HI REN (by Ren) yet??? Or already mentioned why you might/ don't plan to? There's no one I want to hear react to it more. You will be utterly blown away and will have more emotions than you might know what to do with. And known that you work with a lot of young folks in music, I can only imagine how you'll respond to it💜💜💜
Definitely live but probably a bit of tech magic done on the vox. That's not an insult to Dustin, his voice is great. Probably just a little something here and there to smooth his cleans out
As a complete layperson, wouldn't it probably be common practice to record live, but then do a whole lot of post processing to clean up the rough edges and get the synths timed up perfectly where they're supposed to be?
This is live... Ive seen them several times and have enough experience to be 110% confident to say this is live.... He's a producer, he puts a LOT of time end effort into their sound... Yes, he uses effects and filters... But this was live
Doyou plan to get back to Ren? The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full).. 3 performances in one. Even more of a piece of theatre. 3 live performances in one video.
I absolutely love Starset but sadly i have to correct you, they're not "top tier musicians" at all. I do love them for their originality and their musicality, but they're not that good at their instruments. And Dustin really has a hard time sometimes singing live. I've seen them, it was really great, but he "failed" many times. By the way i saw them in 2023, so no, for now, Dustin's singing isn't perfect.
I’ve seen them live several times. All of them have degrees and had really good jobs beforehand so It’s not like they’ve been doing this their whole lives. I will say though compared to the mid 2010’s when I first saw them to now they’ve improved A LOT. Plus the screams really seem to take a lot out of Dustin.
@@jay-1800 That's fair but that doesn't change what i'm saying. I won't excuse them bc "they haven't been doing this for their whole lives". I was just correcting the sentence :"they're top tier musicians". From a technical perspective, they're actually average or below. Doesn't change the fact that their music is really great.
@@samenger1508 Siobhan, Z, and Cory are what I would consider top tier musicians. But yeah, there are no crazy guitar solos or anything super intricate as far as the four main band members go.
This is definitely live, his voice sounds more raw and uncut in this. Which just goes to show how phenomenal they are live!
Yes thankfully, but when they're on a long run you can definitely tell when his voice is tired. This band is as good live as they are on track!
You can tell by how much he enunciates. He doesn't have that "clarity" in the album.
He’s right though, it’s edited and that’s pretty obvious. I’m sure it was still a great live performance but the video is not 100% live.

OMG, email that comment to me!!!! I need to print it out. I can’t read so much on this tiny format! ❤️
This is the best comment about STARSET I've ever seen! Perfectly written! Dustin is really super smart!
They have a fictional story with every album and stuff hence the name :D
Edit: yeah well I'm not really sure but I just connect it like that since I'm literally in love with the story and the world they created
I see a lot of people say they sound like this live.. and that makes me super happy.. because they sounded very bad back in the days.. He has improved his vocals so much
They usually start out with the post-apocalyptic costumes, then they change to more astronaut like outfits.
would love to see more starset
I hope this made you a Starset fan! One of the best things to come from Ohio! If you listen to the original you can tell this is live! I love their acoustic music also! Fun watch sir!
Lisa has great taste. My favorite band bar-none, though I dig their first three albums more than the most recent one (which is still good!).
First 2 albums were masterpieces, first concert north of the border here was scheduled to be June 2020 but then what happened... and they haven't come yet...
One of my favorite bands, they never disappoint me
FINALLY YOU DID STARSET
This is definitely touched up in post a bit but it is live
It's live but I believe it's highly produced. I believe they were also using backing tracks for the electronic stuff at this time. They're trying to play the electronics live too but... Dustin's voice sounds cleaner in the studio recording.
It’s def live you can hear a difference between this and the recording for sure. Both amazing 🤘
You should definetly check out more from them they have some nice piano pieces, some songs that come to mind is Frequency, Telescope, and Antigravity
You'll really like the classical elements in a lot of their other songs, really worth checking them out!
They are live, its just right off the sound board including the backing sounds/and effects.
Fun fact about Starset: Adam doesnt write the studio drum parts. Theyve had Luke Holland do some of the drumming on certain albums for them, and Adam does the live and touring parts
Luke only tracked drums for divisions
This is live. It’s definitely post mixed a bit, but it’s not pre recorded
This is definitely live, although they also definitely added some autotune to his mic or like a post-recording thing, but its definitely live with a bit of added autotune
I'm guessing it's more like KISS Live where most of it was from the live performance but they add or fix stuff in post.
Some of their acoustic material is also really really cool, you should give it a go too :).
And I'm going to shout out Halestorm if you want some more epicness and a great great female voice in rock. They have such great songs and performances (in The Live Room for example)
Please do evaporate by dance Gavin dance! The ending has a bunch of lyrical Easter eggs to old songs!
It's edited (post-production), yeah sure, but definitely Live!
You've seen them 30 times 😮 I wish! But I only could saw them for the first time, because I'm from Germany and they postponed their EU TOUR
Have you reacted to HI REN (by Ren) yet??? Or already mentioned why you might/ don't plan to? There's no one I want to hear react to it more. You will be utterly blown away and will have more emotions than you might know what to do with. And known that you work with a lot of young folks in music, I can only imagine how you'll respond to it💜💜💜
Kaalyn, yes oh yes yes yessssss
@@MusicShed So so glad you feel the same!! 🤗🫶🏻
Please consider “20 km/h” or “Dreh Auf” by We Butter the Bread with Butter
Definitely live but probably a bit of tech magic done on the vox. That's not an insult to Dustin, his voice is great. Probably just a little something here and there to smooth his cleans out
You should check out Diving Bell by Starset
Father, your time has come, Ronnie's waiting for your reaction with a new reimagined song
DAAAAAAADDDDDDD!!!!!!!
"he could sing you a lullaby and then scream your face off" you should listen to Everglow lmao
falling in reverse dropped a song....last resort reimagined (original by papa roach)
Please!!!!!!!
As a complete layperson, wouldn't it probably be common practice to record live, but then do a whole lot of post processing to clean up the rough edges and get the synths timed up perfectly where they're supposed to be?
Processing, for me, doesn’t ever take away the live sound. I’m usually pretty accurate. But, I could be wrong. It’s happened once before
Chiodos - The Undertaker’s Thirst for Revenge pls
We need VAMPIRE by olivia rodrigo mike!
This is live... Ive seen them several times and have enough experience to be 110% confident to say this is live....
He's a producer, he puts a LOT of time end effort into their sound...
Yes, he uses effects and filters... But this was live
On point!
Doyou plan to get back to Ren? The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full).. 3 performances in one. Even more of a piece of theatre. 3 live performances in one video.
I do
*promo sm*
