  • I decided to go out to fish at Lake Mead on Father’s Day. The morning was hazy due to California’s wild fire. Decided to go to Boulder Harbor to test out my luck. Initially, I was targeting stripers but once I got to the spot, I noticed many carps jumping and decided to target carp for the day. As you will see, I was able to hook up to 3 nice carps, lost 2 good ones. If you have never fished for carp, I recommend you try it out as they fight so hard and it so much fun. If you have any questions let me know in the comment section and I will get back to you in a day or two. Thanks for watching my video.

      Thank you 🙏 Trying my best so one day I can grow up to be just like you. 😁 This heat is making fishing much tougher. Stay cool and hope to meet you on the water some day.

      Thank you 🙏 Yes, it’s a great workout but not as bad as some other spots as it’s a pretty flat hike.

      I started targeting carp after getting skunked many times fishing for bass and stripers at Lake Mead. It seems much easier to catch compared to others. Plus they fight so hard and I never seem to catch anything smaller than 7 lbs. I’m hoping I can catch a 20 pound carp this year. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. 🙏

    Peter, thanks for the vids. I went to the Boulder harbor spot today and caught a 7 pound carp. I was actually getting big bites at the start but would never hook up. The fourth one finally did. They seem to love raw sweet potato with a dash of thai fish sauce on hair rigs. That hike is a grueling though.

      That is awesome! Yes, the hike is tough but that’s why there’ll be less people fishing (or picnicing). Plus, a little exercise is good. I almost went there this morning but went to Government Wash instead as I heard they are planning to close the road on August 1st. I got to try sweet potato one of these days. Take care Buddy!

    Take the smaller carp and slice some strips around 1 inch by 4 inch and throw it out. Great catfish bait.

      @Busydad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A few others also recommended using carp for catfish bait. I must try one of these days. Thank you always for watching and commenting. 🙏

    I was out there that same spot and caught 4 smallies on a ned rig. I went 2 days later and nothing bit but I did catch ONE striper on a ned rig. I tried jerkbait, swim jig but those had i no luck with that day.

    • @Busydad
      @Busydad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I love that spot too. Some days I only catch stripers and some days are just carp and occasionally I’ll hook up to a smallie. If you see me out there let me know and say hi. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🙏

    What sort of setup for the bait and weights are you using ? Been fishing a couple times at lake mead and always seem to snag and lose my hooks.

    • @Busydad
      @Busydad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use a basic Carolina Rig. I use 14 lbs line w/ 3/4oz to 1oz weight (depending on wind/current). 20lbs leader with #4 or #6 circle or octopus hooks ( I usually have 2 hooks tied as a T-knot. When fishing for carp, the cage goes between the weight and hooks. I hope this helps. We all do get snagged but that is part of it.

    Hi Peter,
    Nice video. Almost lost your rod a couple of times. BTW, where are you and how do you get there? I know you are at Boulder Harbor but that a pretty big beach. Can U be a little more specific on how to get to that location as I want to try it out. Also, when you park your car, how long is the walk? Thanks a lot, Peter. Later...

      Hi George,
      The location is about 15 min walk from where I park. Walk along the left side of the harbor. Once you get out of the harbor turn left along the rocky bank (wear good shoes). There should be several spots as you head towards the water intake tower. I was trying to attach a Google map but the system doesn’t allow it. If you send me your email I can send that to you. Thanks.

    U need a better pole holder...hope u don't lose ur rod and reel

    • @Busydad
      @Busydad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know. Actually it’s not the rod holder but user error. I just need to hammer it in to secure it better. Thank you for watching and commenting. 🙏

    You could have had 5 carp if you could figure out how to better anchor your rod holders in that scree.

    • @Busydad
      @Busydad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know. The rocky bottom makes it challenging to secure the rod holders plus i just want to get my bait out first. I thought if the drag is loose enough it should be fine but it wasn’t the case. I hope the viewers can learn from my mistakes. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🙏

    • @Busydad

      There is nothing wrong with consuming carp. I know several that enjoy carp. Carps are considered trash fish here in the US and not many even fish for them but I enjoy catching them. I just like to release them so they will get bigger. Thank you for watching and commenting. 🙏

      @Busydad AZ Davis Dam section usually. Sometimes, the Nevada side of the river. Found a pretty sweet lagoon over there recently! Thank you for the fun videos. Any advice on how to rig for larger striper or cat?
