" People say Jimi Hendrix was ahead of his time. He wasn't, Hendrix was ahead of everyone else at the time. Allan Holdsworth is ahead of his time. In 100 years if People are still listening to Guitar Music and I suspect they will, Allan Holdsworth will be the One". Steve Vai.
Even the most talented and technically advanced players in the modern day will tell you how important Allan was to the evolution of guitar playing. Personally, he is my favorite guitarist in the world. His music completely transcends the instrument it’s played on and becomes an emotional vehicle. His music can bring tears to my eyes. I can count on one hand how many musicians have that kind of effect on me. Even to this day with all the YT players none come close, no one has created such a unique musical language like Allan…his music lives in its own universe.
There are dozens of brillant guitar technicians on TH-cam, copying Allan. If he were still alive, he would ask: Why? Nobody will ever reach his genious. What all “ copyists” lack, is inspiration to create their own. What a pity. Wasted life time
Respect to you for posting a reaction to this Jedi Master. It makes me happy to think your turning new peeps on to Allan. Thanks a bunch you crazy kids.
Allan was pure genius. Seen his trio years ago at The Winchester in Lakewood, Ohio. Joel Taylor was the drummer in his trio at the time & Joel was a total beast that night & he really tore it up!
Love to see you two crazy lovelies watching AH. Masters of their craft indeed. Chords as melody, crazy good hey?! I did a tribute to Allan a year after he passed, down here at the bottom of Au. It's a dream even attempting to play that music. Lotsa luv. Radkon
His ability to get the tones that sound almost keyboard or wind instrument like and his phrasing and melody make him one of the mt Rushmore greats of guitar
he has a general idea of the scale switches during the segments of his music, so on top of that the genius of AH is his ability to improvise in both chords & solos.
I never understood why, when he was so well regarded by his peers and with a long and very respectable musical CV Holdsworth died penniless and his family had to set up a Gofundme page to pay for his funeral.
from what I understand he was incredibly talented and smart in terms of music, math, and more academic sorts of things, but he lacked a bit of street smarts. He was continuously taken advantage of by record labels into taking really bad deals and never really was able to profit off of his music because of this.
Isn't that true with most geniuses? It's sad but true. He was bullied and harassed by Warner Bros. back in the day too because they just won't let him do his thing. He even had to sell his guitar in order to come back from America once but just look at the overwhelming support that fundraiser received. :) That's Allan's legacy. A simple bloke in a pair of OCBD shirt and jeans who could mesmerize even God himself with his playing. There never was anyone like Allan and there never will. AH- The greatest of all time.
If you guys want some more AH mainstream have a listen to the band called UK (Jobson, Wetton, Bruford), whose first album featured AH as their guitarist - or for a track try "in the dead of night" or "Alaska/Time to Kill"
You can go nex to with some Feank Gambale, Shawn Lane and Bret Garsed, and have the Fusion guitar pretty mucho covered. BTW all of them improvise playing live, thats why they dont forget the notes, and what makes them not humans
I LOVE SRV!!! never grow tired of watching him play! That being said, Alan is so far advanced compared to everyone else...It's crazy! He was a true genius, innovator, virtuoso etc!
Gary Novak on drums is easily in the top five for fastest hands (and fiercely musical to boot). Holdsworth mesmerized from the first time I heard him (on Tony Williams Lifetime: The Collection. Love it! Cheers to all!
Check out "Joshua" off the Secrets album. Plug in the headphones turn it up and prepare for take off. Full throttle, lots of high speed flight aerobatics and high g force turns with an elegant landing.
Allan was the most advanced guitar player the world had ever seen. all your favorite guitar gods worship him. unfortunately, you d'ont become famous, nor rich making music like this. but he cemented his place in eternity. in a thousand years, they will still study his music.
The guy was truly unique but never an easy first time listen. Where the band find the framework was always a mystery to me but i'm never less than fascinated. Legend.
This incredible guy wrote and played all of this phenomenal guitar work like he was a "rain man", looking at a spilled box of toothpicks on the floor, stating there were 3,547 of em.
I believe I read an interview with Chris Poland from Megadeth that said he was influenced by Allan...I definitely can hear it when listening to the solos Chris does in the intro to Good Mourning/Black Friday on Megadeths second album Peace Sells
Yes, that is true. Holdsworth was a favorite guitarist of many of our personal favorite guitarists. Kind of like what Buddy Rich was to drummers. My introduction to Holdsworth was the album Gazeuse, by a band called Gong. He only plays on 4 tracks but the leads are insanely technical.
As of today no master guitarist understands what Allan Holdsworth is playing . In 100 years from now no master guitarist will understand what Allan Holdsworth is playing .
Stuff like this is extreme Talent, but would I want to listen to this for an hour?? hell no. Sounds like when you walk into a music store 8 people playing different things at the same time and \you just want to walk back out lololol

I never thought I would see Allan Holdsworth on this channel! Keep it up. The man was a guitar genius. Otherworldly!
No kidding! That is absolutely awesome! The jazz fusion rabbit hole is gigantic.
When Eddie Van Halen says your the baddest dude on guitar, I believe him. Eddie helped Allan get recognized early on.
No he didn’t…..Holdsworth was well before him moron.
People in the know were aware of Allan long before Eddie helped him, I believe.
Allan Holdsworth never played the same solo twice…his incredible talent was his ability to improvise which he did on every solo….astounding.
Your favorite guitarists favorite guitarist
Alan was in a league of his own
RiP

None will ever ever ever come close. Holdsworth- The greatest of them all.

Allan Holdsworth is the favorite guitarist of yours favorite guitarist

HOLDSWORTH IS GOD!
Best guitarist I ever listened to. His solo on 'In the Dead of Night' by U.K. is a thing of beauty.
Allan was pure genius. Seen his trio years ago at The Winchester in Lakewood, Ohio. Joel Taylor was the drummer in his trio at the time & Joel was a total beast that night & he really tore it up!
Allan's music brings me to tears.
Props on givng the band the credit they deserve. They are all monster players. All of these players influenced generations of musicians after them.
All Alan's solos...live or studio are all improvised, he rarely played them the same...regardless they're all fantastic!!
Love to see you two crazy lovelies watching AH. Masters of their craft indeed. Chords as melody, crazy good hey?! I did a tribute to Allan a year after he passed, down here at the bottom of Au. It's a dream even attempting to play that music.

Allan's playing was like listeing to a supernova explosion. Beautiful, heavenly controlled chaos.
His ability to get the tones that sound almost keyboard or wind instrument like and his phrasing and melody make him one of the mt Rushmore greats of guitar

This is right up there with any John Coltrane tunes!!!
Gary Novak and Dave Carpenter(RIP)are Bliss❤

He was an artist, a species of human much screwed over by our world

@52ndWarhawkGerbil / yup. .still have. Velvet Darkness vinyl lps. .was a big rip off for him.
The jazz fusion monster lol insane guitar work but the rest of the band is on point
Alan lifts soul
Alex Lifeson (Rush) was heavily influenced by Alan Holdsworth...
and John McLaughlin. Another of Lifeson's big heroes.
I don't think Allan Holdsworth hit a bad note in years!!!!
@Vince. D'ya think you'd be able to pick it out if he did?😆
@@russellmorgan5611 As a real guitar player......yes I can!!!!!!!! I still remember an interview with Al Dimeola
@@russellmorgan5611 I waa told by the great Vernon Reid.....any note can follow any chord!!!! I live by that
@Vince. I rest my case.
He hits a bad note about 30 seconds into this

Yeah this is all improvisation BUT ya gotta know A LOT of chords ❤😂😎👊🏻
Gary Novak on drums is easily in the top five for fastest hands (and fiercely musical to boot). Holdsworth mesmerized from the first time I heard him (on Tony Williams Lifetime: The Collection. Love it! Cheers to all!
Favorite track feom that album. .Tony William's drums on original is unmatched. .
Check out "Joshua" off the Secrets album. Plug in the headphones turn it up and prepare for take off. Full throttle, lots of high speed flight aerobatics and high g force turns with an elegant landing.
Second this! Way more accessible and absolutely face-melting.

Allan THE legato master ♥

Big props for making a holdsworth reaction!
Holdsworth 🎶😢😌😌😌
thats funny you said connected thats how Steve Vai descibed Allan Holdswoth .check him out if your not familiar
Evan Marien did a killer version of this.
As of today no master guitarist understands what Allan Holdsworth is playing . In 100 years from now no master guitarist will understand what Allan Holdsworth is playing .
He has much better songs for "beginner" Allan fans imo. :D
He doesn't have to remember it if he can improvise it.
React to Marilyn Manson the beautiful people live Rock am ring 2003
Stuff like this is extreme Talent, but would I want to listen to this for an hour?? hell no. Sounds like when you walk into a music store 8 people playing different things at the same time and \you just want to walk back out lololol
Not for the simple minded..lol
It sounds like a mess to you simply because you have an under-developed ear. You are unable to discern the melodic patterns o the notes.
As the saying goes, you will be rewarded by repeat listens.
I've been listening to his music every day for six years straight. Changed my life.
Incredibly talented, yet incredibly tedious. 🥱
Only if you're not into that style of music. Holdsworth always went in the opposite direction of whatever was commercial or radio-friendly.
