My grandfather used to be a mechanic in Air Force From the early 80s to 2004, he used to be a gunner for the Huey, he told me about this topic a year ago, he said that the AFP(Mostly from the Army) Fight the Marines, he also said that some of his colleagues join the RAM-AFP(Rebel side), he is forced to fight his own countrymen, some of which is hiding in drainage Canal, after the AFP has the momentum, he is ordered to deliver ammunition near Danilo Atienza Air Base, he delivered ammo for the government, but during that time, he also encounter some of the rebels that are patrolling the area, he was asked "Pula Kaba o puti" in English(Are you red or white? Idk if that's the correct color) He simply just answered, "Nagtatrabaho lang ako" (I'm just working), then, later on, he delivered successfully the ammo for the troops of Government, which also contribute the Win for the government side.
he said to me that "Kahit anong Nangyari dati, kaibigan ko parin sila, magkaiba man kami ng paniniwala, nirerespeto ko parin sila bilang sundalo".
he is now currently happy living in Manila, right now some of his friends (From the Air Force) are planning a reunion, Christmas Party in Short, so Happy for them.

@@John77Doe There's actually more evidence that the Americans were on the rebels side but these were swept under the rug. Remember they only made one sortie and never fired a single shot. The one that turn the tide was Maj Atienza's squadron which wiped the rebel air assets ensuring air superiority for the gov forces. Take note that the americans favored marcos, hence why he fled to hawaii.

My grandfather participated in this. He saw the Americans moved trough the streets and saw F-15s fly over. It was incredible he said.
He was even part of the whole EDSA rallies, my grandmother was scared to death when she found out he was there cuz everything was at a boiling point where they thought it'll devolve into a full civil war. Thank God it didn't or else I wouldn't have known him.
His name is Ruben Raro Martires. He was also known among his close group of friends for being part of the management during Micheal Jacksons visit and saw Russian planes land on Philippine soil to help with delivering his stage equipment.
It was 5 years after the Soviet collapse so the Soviets owed the US. The plane he saw? Was the freaking Antonov.
I'm glad to have met him...

I still vividly remember this as on this time my father who was a serviceman is on the side of the rebel group of Gringo Honasan and my other uncle is part of the government. My uncle then makes it an effort to look for my father and persuade him to go home with him but with no success. I saw in this coup that the rebel soldiers and the government soldiers were never really in conflict with each other. In the end it was still fresh in my memory when my father went back home with all the gears, weapons and ammunition with him as he was dropped off by a 6x6 military truck in front of our house after the coup.

This edit was dope af. The flyover of the F-4 phantoms was a request by then President Cory Aquino to intimidate the RAM-AFP troops. Sadly 1 F-5 fighter crash in an airbase in Cavite. Now the Airbase is named after him: Danilo Atienza airbase. His valiant effort managed to cripple some T-28s and an OV-10 bronco. Snappy salute!
    Nice song choice btw!

    • @liberty2four2
      @liberty2four2 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Actually, Cory Aquino's request was for the F4 to shoot down the rebel aircraft and to bomb and strafe the two airfields the rebels used for launching attacks. At that time, Gen. Colin Powell decided and suggested not to intervene by avoiding any shooting to prevent direct involvement. Thus, everyone in the Oval Office, including then-Vice President Quayle, decided to conduct a "Escalation of force" or guidelines rule to implement.
It's all in Bob Woodward's book, 'The Commanders,' Chapter 13.
Here's the excerpt from the book:
"First rule: the U.S. pilots were to fly over the captured air bases and to
demonstrate extreme hostile intent-in other words, to buzz the shit out of
the rebel T-28s on the ground.
Second, if the T-28s or other rebel aircraft began to taxi on the runway,
the U.S. pilots were to shoot in front of them-the classic warning shot
      across the bow.
Third, if at any point the rebels broke ground from the runway in a
takeoff, the U.S. pilots were then to shoot the planes down.
Powell believed this would achieve the same purpose as Aquino’s
      request: deter rebel aircraft.
      ....."
But we know that there was a T28 that was airborne but the F4 didn't shoot it but only did a intimidation-flyby.
Just imagine, Cory Aquino sought the help of the U.S. to kill fellow Filipinos.

It was this era that my father told me that my uncle was one of the spy against the government and when the batas militar kicked in they were working to send important information on where will be the soldiers are, unfortunately my uncle was caught and was tortured by one of the officials in the military my father and his friend rescued him, my father said that during their daring escape the soldiers are shooting at them and my uncle save his life by pushing him to the river to dodge the bullet. He told me that if my uncle didn’t push him he would die and we will not be here. Gladly my uncle is still in goodshape he still flexes on how he get his scars and bullet wounds just to remind us that life before wasn’t easy that we should be thankful for the freedom and peace that we enjoy today.

One must understand why this happened. Remember when Former President Cory Aquino sitted on the Presidency she released all of the captured CCP-NPA leaders and sub-leaders after former president Marcos Sr. Presidency, which led to return and increased activities of the terror group which lasted for 5 decades (now they only have 7 weakened fronts in southern luzon and visayas), poor situation of the soldiers, as well as political ambitions of some of the officers including Honasan (He is a part of the group that also seperated from the Marcos presidency in later years).

I nearly lost my father on coup de etat. what i remembered is that he went back home with his forehead was injured. I did not have the time to ask him about his feeling when the people or his team supported was also twisted. He might have a silent regret after some revelations he might discovered after the coup. In 1991 he survived an ambush plot by " sparrow" unit. He was great soldier until he had kidney failure in 2023. We where living in Pasig city and we saw and hear explosions. choppers and "tora tora " plane s flyby. I even saw US blue diamond team on how they outclass PAF planes. Ortigas that time has little buildings and what is happening along EDSA can be seen clearly. Now in 2024 i just seen the whole picture and there is a great twist manipulation from external powers. Vietnam, South America, Libya, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Iraq, war stories was just a plot from the real world manipulators.

The last coup d etat was 1989. Sec of National Defense was late Fidel Ramos, the Chief of Staff was Gen Renato de Villa. I can still vividly remember that last coup wherein the rebel forces almost won against the AFP. I was then the Aide de Camp of the Vice Chief of Staff, AFP when this last coup happened which started on Nov 30, 1989 and lasted for several days

For people looking for context, the former president Marcos Sr stepped down to prevent a civil war. RAM forces were part of the military that believed he was still the rightful president and attacked broadcasting and government facilities. The planes in the videos were T28D trainer prop planes fitted with guns and bombs by the RAM, F-5s used by the Philippine Airforce to hunt down the T28Ds and a F4 phantom deployed from an American airbase in country to intimidate the rebels. After a few more skirmishes on the ground, it ended in a stand-off with most of RAM standing down and returning to duty.

You mean the dictator marcos stepped down because he has no more power, albeit the billions they stole from the country was never recovered. The RAM, soldiers led by those thirsty for power and even manipulated by the likes of enrile to stage a coup'.

A blight in the Philippine's history.... Clearly when the military forgot what their mandate is, and clearly a lapse in their civilian overseers and leaders. Whatever justification or advocacy they were proposing? It doesn't change the fact that the military defends his people and country, that role is symbolized by that uniform. Whether or not the civilian leadership or government is corrupt it is still the people's prerogative and authority to select their representative.
