My Mum and Dad were both from Ireland and I am so fortunate to still have family there.i absolutely love it there ,the beautiful and breathtaking scenery, the traditional music, the Pubs, the Guinness ,the people, everything about beautiful Ireland.
I'm so proud of been from Ireland 🇮🇪 ☘️☘️☘️ and Johnny Cash wrote a song about my Country and it make me so proud. Thank You Mr Cash. We have 40 shade's of green. R.I.P. to one of my favourite Singer's. I love everything about this Gentleman. Amazing Songwriter. X 💕💐🙏
n 1962 I dated an Irish lad and we used to go to the Barley Mow in Bedford and the juke box was all irish songs and this was my favourite and still is 62 years later.
And even now- long after this was recorded, there are STILL people who don't know that he wrote it! It just sounds so quintessentially Irish- perhaps his biggest song writing achievement, among many phenomenally good songs.
I’m amazed every time I watch this video. I’m amazed by the beautiful lyrics and singing of Johnny, but possibly more amazed by the cast that’s on that stage in this video.
I saw Johnny Cash,June Carter Cash and The Tennessee Three live in concert in The Carlton Cinema in O'Connell St, Dublin,Ireland many many moons ago, will never forget it.
John R CASH was such a gifted and talented man, a singer, a songwriter and a brilliant performer. It all comes together in this beautiful song he gave to the Irish people. He was simply big..big...big . /CD
666th veiwer. That sucks but this song is great. As an Irishman, I usually find American songs about Ireland to be sentimental and hokey. This is different. Johnny's voice gives such a sincerity to the song that I have to love it. God bless you Johnny. Enjoy the River Jordan.
I’ve been a hardcore fan of Johnny Cash fan most of my life. I’m now nearly 70. The first Johnny Cash song I can remember was the theme song to the television western “The Rebel” (This was the B-side on that single.) He was a great singer and songwriter. This was my favorite song he wrote. Rosanne performed a stunning live version of it in Ireland after he died. He would have been so proud of her and honored: th-cam.com/video/T-kXrEisqb4/w-d-xo.html 🧨
Adoro a Johnny Cash mi ídolo absoluto, me gusta en todas las etapas de su vida.....lo escucho todos los días en mis largos paseos, un absoluto placer❤❤
Great song. For all you Americans that come to Ireland. When you land, don't spend too long in Dublin. Don't get me wrong, Dublin is a great little city but its gone very cosmopolitan. You'll see the real old type Ireland in Cork, Kerry, Clare, Galway, Donegal. Its a gem of a Country. And the service you get is real. Not based on tips.
I close my eyes and picture the emerald of the sea; From the fishing boats at Dingle to the shores of Dunadee. I miss the River Shannon and the folks at Skipparee; The moor lands and the meadows, With their forty shades of green. But most of all I miss a girl in Tipperary town, And most of all I miss her lips as soft as eiderdown. Again I want to see and do the things we've done and seen, Where the breeze is sweet as Shalimar, And there's forty shades of green. I wish that I could spend an hour at Dublin's churning surf; I'd love to watch the farmers drain the bogs and spade the turf. To see again the thatching of the straw the women glean; I'd walk from Cork to Lairn to see their forty shades of green. But most of all I miss a girl in Tipperary town, And most of all I miss her lips as soft as eiderdown. Again I want to see and do the things we've done and seen, Where the breeze is sweet as Shalimar, And there's forty shades of green.

One of his few songs that are *NOT* improved by background / backup singers... It was going great while he was singing solo... but then someone (June?) started singing in a different key. *The mix is horrible!*
Everybody is singing in key perfectly, it’s called harmonising, but those singing in harmony in the back are just too loud that’s why it’s sounds off to you. Every song has harmony like that but it’s hard to balance the volume when it’s live
It wasn't June. It was an Irish singer, a lady by the name of Sandy Kelly who sang with him. They were good friends but I have to agree with you. I thought the exact same. Even though she is an excellent singer on her own... it was extremely better before she started singing because it was a little too loud above his voice.
That man is loved by every person in Ireland.
and i know at least a person in Iran who loves him as much .
Deservedly. A humble man, but now ranked #4 of all time for their influence on other recording personalities.
@@BehrouzKashkar name them 😅
Am in Ireland, can confirm.
Hate the ones who ruined this song
Very flattering that he wrote a song about the emerald isle ☘️🇺🇲

With irish roots johnny loved the emerald isle
Kris and June are always by Johnny's side, just like two guardian angels ...
One of my fondest memories is of being in Leo's Tavern in County Donegal and hearing Forty Shades of Green.

Beautiful. Amazing that there's no mention of Kris Kristofferson in the credits, but he's right there on stage.
That must have been a great show!
