The power of forgiveness is difficult to understand but it is so important in our life and for our relationship with God and people. People are fallible and inevitably will hurt us. Jesus told us in Luke 17.1 that offences will come. People will disappoint us. We should learn and practice to forgive the people. Forgiving ourselves and others is like watering parched dry soil. Forgiveness softens and renews our mind and spirit. We experience freedom and joy in our life. It is vital to our emotional and mental health. We are commanded not only to forgive the people but to love them back. We should have faith that we are obligated to offer each other unconditional love that we have received from God. John 13.34 says, “ A new commandment I give to you that you love one another just as I have loved you”. Just as our heavenly Father forgives our sins repeatedly we must emulate God’s forgiveness to those who hurt and offend us. When we keep forgiving others, we are saving our souls and theirs. If we forgive others trespasses our heavenly Father will also forgive us.
God forgives us with a condition. We are all guilty of offending others and many people offend us everyday. It is impossible to live a Christian life victoriously without forgiveness. Unforgiveness is the poison in our soul. If we dont forgiving others we would be making a prison for ourselves. It is as bad as drugs and alcohol for our mind. Later we will have anxiety, fear and depression problems. Unforgiveness eats away our spirit until we are spiritually dead. It will cripple our ministry to the world. We can’t win any soul as we are doing our ministry without having any relationship with God. To forgive means to stop being angry and bitter towards somebody or about something. Nobody dies after a snake bite. Instead it’s the poison that flows in our veins that destroys us. When we keep thinking about the hurt, we are building a house inside us and inviting the offender to live there and we keep visiting them. So anger and bitterness will keep increasing. Because of that we will be defiled. So we should extract this poison and demolish this house. As long as the pain and wounds are there, vulnerability is there. Many marriages and relationships are destroyed because of unforgiveness. Another disadvantage of unforgiveness is God will not hear our prayers. Whenever you pray, forgive if you have anything against anyone so that your father in heaven will also hear you. It also causes chains of bondages making us slaves of bitterness, resentment, anger, revenge which affects our emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. Unforgiving people will not have fellowship in the church. Unforgiveness opens the door for all kinds of health problems. It will take away your joy. It will open the door for Satan to attack you. If you have any complaint against others forgive them as God has forgiven you.
