Jim Slade I always tie in size 18 and use the straight dry fly hook. For some reason that curved Nymph hook doesn’t do as well. I always use the embroidery floss. I’ve had discussions with others and I think it needs to have a flat color to have contrast to the shiny Mylar. That wire has just enough shine to it. I’ve tried lots of different combinations but this pattern always out performs the others by a large margin. I don’t even mess with any more. Just tie it this way now.

Ever use this midge at Roaring River?
Any suggestions on brand of embroidery floss? Hobby lobby is overwhelming. Also what color is the floss?
Grant just plain black. Walmart also carries it.
I didn't hear what color of tensel you are using?
