I remember in Gentoo, you could actually make it run BSD/Linux - and it seemingly only broke binary packages. libc instead of glibc, you could use llvm instead of gcc and so on, GNU tools is fairly easy to replace,
Around 20 years or so there was an audio file with the voice of Linus Torvalds itself saying this phrase: "I'm Linus Torvalds and I pronounce Linux as "Linux" " In that audio file the name Linus and the word Linux sounded exactly the same, except for the final "x".... 20 years later Linus must have give up the idea of making english-speaker able to reproduce the original sound, and surrendered to the Dark Side.... :-)
@@gustavstreicher4867 vowels sound exactly the same in Italian as in Finnish language, so for us was extremeley easy to understand and reproduce the sound :-)
I 100% agree. He pronounced Linux as he would his name in Finnish. I suspect that as his English accent shifted to a much more American accent, and coupled with the generally accepted market pronunciation, he either relented consciously or his pronunciation just shifted as his English accent shifted. I pronounced Linux as Lee-nucks for years following that original WAV file but have accepted that it is now Lin (as in pin) -ucks since its creator now pronounces it that way.
After watching Mr. Whosetheboss video about Ubuntu/Linux phones I just wanted to hear from the creator of OS, the actual pronunciation...... music to my ears.
