Many people give Mary J. Bilge credit for this song. I am truly an early Mary fan. However, NOBODY MENTIONED THE TRUE PIONEER OF THE ENERGY BEHIND CHARLIE WILSON'S VOICE. S. T. E. V. I. E. W.O.N.D.E.R. Influence is all over this track.
Charlie Wilson always told it though; he Luther Vandross; George Benson; Donnie Hathaway; and all became superstars - you are so right; in this song all "Stevie"
Melody and vocal goals. My uncle, Mr. Charlie Wilson's voice is everything. *AND* he sounds like the records he recorded 40+ years ago in 2020. That's a rare gift. We need *love* content in mainstream music.
I moreso appreciate Charlie Wilson singing Gospel Hymns 😇❤️🙌🏽✝️ like "His Eye Is On The Sparrow"; "Jesus! Something About That Name"; "He Touched Me"; "Shine On Me" and more
I see that I'm not alone, thinking Mary did this first. Took me 20 years after Mary did it to realize The Gap Band did it 20 years before Mary even got to Jr. High School. Lol. Uncle Charlie still blazing charts and selling out shows in 2021. GOD truly blessed him. 💯
I say to agreement also that's a comfortable tone of music and vocals from the elements of men and women (HUSBAND) and the (WIFE) follows with beats as saying these are your seeds U hear mines
"I'm in love...SWEET BABY!!" This is my favorite from them. Mary definitely did it justice, but GOODT GAWDT this is a classic! That breakdown at the end is EPIC!
you can hear gap band version in elevators! I think uncle charlie re-did this again. I heard it again and it sounds very updated and it is Charlie singing it.

My wife passed away Dec 2022. When we went to the essence festival 2018. Mary J was performing this song and she loved it!! I remember the smile on her face as Mary was performing it and was singing it. Sometimes to this day, I go on here just to listen to Mary version just to get that memory back. Dam!!!😢
I feel for any so-called C. Wilson lover if they've never listened to the self-titled GAP Band album. This is Uncle Charlie at his best. This song along with every track on this EP is bad. Sure, the other albums sold more and had more hits, but pound for pound, this album put 'The Wilson Bro's' talent on full display. The orchestrations and horn and vocal arrangements are fantastic. C. Wilson's voice has inspired artists like those of the New Jack, hip hop wave, and R. Kelly. Like Frankie Beverly of Maze, his man should go into the hall of fame twice as a solo artist and with the GAP Band. Thanks for posting!
The Gap Band was the first concert I ever went to. They 'dropped the bomb' on us that night, and after the gig I got to hang out with them at their hotel. They were the nicest guys you could ever meet, and Charlie Wilson - what an amazing voice. I sung 'Lonely Like Me' for my first audition ever, which got me on a world tour. The Gap Band are an integral part of the soundtrack of my life. I love them. Jussayin...
You see what makes the old school R&B so good is that they used real instruments! They where real live bands that had there own style. I miss these days!
Do you hearing those horns. Trumpets, trombones, baritones, French horns, also sax. Maybe a tenor and baritone sax in their too. Absolutely beautiful! Just listen to it with good headphones.
Love this song. Uncle Charlie sounds better now than he did back then. It's amazing how strong his voice has grown. I love love love me some Charlie Wilson.
I have fallen in love with song! I was listening to Charlie Wilson Radio and went it came on, it just touched me. Brings back so many beautiful memories.
I use to sing this song back in High School and it was epic: made me cry...lol and even now it sounds so authentic and powerful; just too much not to move the heart...wow; my big brother Charlie Wilson whoosh
I was today years when I learned Mary was not originator of this song. 🤯 She definitely put her touch on this! Two great renditions tho. This song is just🔥🔥
WOW I'M SHOCKED I'VE NEVER HEARD THIS ONE B4, WE'LL THIS IS A GREAT SONG & I HAVE TO DO MY RESEARCH & FIND THE COPY OR JUST PLAY IT AGAIN UNTIL THEN I'M ABLE TO BUY ME A COPY. LOVE THIS ONE TOO.
Leon verses Noel I believe Charlie is from the Stevie Wonder tree.. I could definitely hear Stevie .. Charlie does remind of Stevie at some times especially on computer love
I heard this original version a year and a half before Mary came out with the MJB album in Mc Donald's. Love both versions but the Gap Band is outstanding

One of the most beautiful songs ever
I absolutely love this song.
Even though Mary did a great job at redoing this song it just can't trump how the greatness of the Gap band's version.
Jay Worthy, LNDNDRGS, thanks
One of the few originals and remakes that can mirror each other w/o forcing a lopsided easy choice. Interchangeable.
I never knew Mary J remade this my 1st time hearing the original it's good but hearing Mary J just really blows me away a classic for both
