    👍👍👍Your hands-on ability is very strong and your technology is great. I need to tell you and everyone that I am the designer of this 21700 battery holder. I tell you very seriously that the positive electrode must be installed first when installing the battery in this battery holder. Then press down the negative pole. When removing the battery, you must first remove it from the negative pole. If possible, it is best to put a colored cloth strip under the negative pole of the battery when installing the battery, so that you can disassemble the battery more easily.     After the math its way too expensive $970 plus shipping of all those parts plus taxes plus any miscellaneous expenses for just 1 battery of 25 ah, if you want 2 set would reach $1300; with $200 more id rather buy a EG4 $1500 100ah 5.12kw/h fully assambled and guaranteed

      These cylindrical cell packs don't really make sense anymore unless you need a tiny pack or you have a bunch of free cells

      This is DIY it’s always been that here on this channel he never claimed to say it was cheaper..it’s all about the battery building experience…if you don’t like it then like you said just get a eg4 but your not gonna have the feeling of building your own stuff that’s how I feel expensive or not that …DIY gang

      @@Shmade0304 its not about the like it or not; it’s about that the DIY for this video makes no sense, I already did a 2kw/h battery using a123 batteries and I only expend $400 dollars instead of $900 or more and it’s working perfectly; the reason for DIY its to do save money in a reasonable way not reaching the 65% of the cost of the same product; but if you will do a DIY that will cost you almost the same or more as the product in the maket and will be less capacity then its not worth the efforts constructing something like that; better to buy new products and that’s it; the feelings of DIY it’s to say i did it with less money and work great not to say i did but i expend more and the capacity is not the same and many other issues… by the way id follow this channel for years and I found he it’s a great genius making DIY easier and safely and people learn a lot with his work… so?

    When adding the heatshrink to the battery, I use a small round magnet that is about 1mm on a metal serface and place the negative end of the battery on the magnet. This stops it from rolling around when blowing it with hot air and gives a consistent wrap around the bottom of the heatshring.

      You could put 18650’s in the same assembly and it would work. They are still 14S to get 48V.

      @@Randomologi you're right! Only 5mm shorter, that's less than a quarter inch. They should hold inside the holders and the chemistry is the same so the bms will work.

    Consider taking the power connectors to diagonal corners of the battery to ensure that all the assemblies charge and discharge evenly. Using the top corners means that the top assembly charges and discharges more than the others simply for the minute difference in the resistance of the posts.
    Could you make an assembly matching cable with say 10 ohms between each connector so that power sharing on initial contact is moderated? -Not everyone gets a box of perfectly matched cells. First assembly gets the resistor link, final assembly gets a zero ohm wire.

    careful putting these naked batteries in holder type chargers. They (18650) can arc easily when you slide the positive end into the contact as it usually hits the negative edge first then the positive button, POW! I now insert the positive end first and an angle them let the negative end slide in.

    12V 100Ah LiFe batteries are as low as $350 now. And cheaper if you buy cells and DIY. These would be good for a mobile application where weight matters but they don't seem cost competitive for stationary storage

    The e-bike thingy. People converting from sla batteries have cases from either 12v 10-14ah or 12v 18-22 that should be filled with cells and then put back into the bike. 3.2v x 4s =12.8v which is perfect.
    Rather than use new cells there are lots of used 3.7v cells that are 20% below capacity but available 'dirt cheap'. Powering bikes also gives those cells a 2nd life.
    Those little packs that are 48V should power any 48V bike, a box that 4 batteries came out of (7x3x7) could hold even more cells.
    Most riders only go 16mi or less so having 1 hour ride time would work and their batteries can be charged a few 1,000 times. That being said, there are times when 4hrs would be better than having to charge.
    Based on that info and the same 500watt motor being used what is the lowers mah I can have for the various bikes 48v, 60v, 72v, 84v (Daymak makes bluetooth controllers for all those so the specs would help as far as controller voltages). The motor can take more voltage of cooling is increased.
    Now that I have 48v - 84v using 12v 'cells' is there a bms that would to keep the charge level to the same even though the batteries are slightly different. More than once I have 1 sla battery go flat, that is a lot of work to repair and replacing the whole set is 'needlessly expensive'.

    i think at 36 volts is where they consider the battery to be high voltage.
    in electric cars all high voltage wiring is orange so if the car is in an accident the first responders especially the ones running the jaws of life because at like 400 volts there can be lots of sparks and vaporize metal and even fire.

      Under 50v is low voltage, after 50v is medium voltage until 1000, after 1000 is high voltage.
      The orange cables in the car are carrying 600v.

    12:37 Another think you can do is spread some polyurethane over the contacts. It acts as an insulator, but it can be worn through, so you have to be careful, but it does make the boards safer, which is what you'll need given the power you've got packed in there. It'll also help the longevity of the boards by helping prevent corrosion and wear from weather.

    for design point of view I think I would have used angled fuse holders that you don't need to disassembly pack when changing fuse

      If you have blown a fuse on a pack, do you want to replace it without determining the problem first? Being forced to disassemble the pack would seem to be a feature, not a hindrance.

      ​@@mr-biz Basically you can do sanity checks from fuse holder. If it show more voltage than 0v then test with resistor you can try charge board to same level. If it has short cell then you also have burn "fuses" in balance connector. It seems those fuses is mainly for user error when building that pack so you notice when it burns when you assembly it.

    Nice haul Jehu - great you guys can make these kind of cells available!
    However, the 21700s still seem to command an enormous premium over 18650's -- in terms of $$$ per kilowatts hour. I guess they make sense for someone who needs the absolute maximum power density/ minimal volume and weight..

      @@bobforte9343 these are energy cells - 9.8A max continuous for the M50L's. there are opportunities all the time to get equivalent style 18650 energy cells by major brands, unused condition , 5 to 7amp continuous energy cells in surplus packs, for a dollar a piece. 2900 to 3200 mah. battery hookup has panasonic Ncr18650a's in unused new medical packs for under a dollar a cell right now.
      for the high capacity power cells , yes those cost more : i bought a couple of 200ct factory new boxes of sony vtc6 18650 from ev west for 3.25 a cell. but these m50l 21700 are not power cells.

      @@yasirrakhurrafat1142 Jag35 deals are great , it's just that there's still a huge market premium for 21700 cells generally. I think it's irrational since most of them aren't high discharge rate cells. So for most applications you need to make a big sized pack with several cells in parallel. The end result isn't much different than building an 18650 based pack. At five times the price. It's crazy..

    The engineer in me, of course, starts thinking of what can go wrong. Those are fairly inexpensive battery holders so if corrosion develops on the contacts and causes a voltage drop across them will the design fail safe or cause a problem? I don't know enough about the battery controller to know if this would be a issue and how the controller would respond to it.

    One more question. I can get solder to stick to the nickle a lot better than I can to the cell. If I tin the nickle in the right places and then spot weld it in place, would I get any benefits in terms of strength (via melted solder plus nickle to nickle) as a bike would be 'high vibration area'. (in my 'case' I have 16 cells (26650) in a old sla case x 5 cases)

    I almost bought a BG8S but saw how much more powerful the ToolkitRC M8S is and decided to risk choosing not so great reputation ToolkitRC over ISDT.
    Any experience with the M8S? iCharger X6 and the bigger brothers were on my radar but they are pricey.
    Still might get a BG8S for powerwall building alone.

    Why don’t you offer a package deal? With everything (soup to nuts) you need to build this battery. I’m lazy and actually don’t have time to or inclination to order everything separately. Throw it all in a box and ship it to the customer.

    Thanks for all your help , QUESTION; When you say cell and packs (parallel ) of cells must be at the same voltage , to what decimal point do they have to be the same 0.1-0.01-0.001v . Or in another way how close to one another is ok or is too far apart ? assembling parallel packs 1st , cell with small differences will self balance what is the time to wait for that to be completed ?

      Most areas in the world requires people certifications, like being an electrician, for mid voltage ranges. Low voltage free for everyone systems stops at 48V as 60V systems can shock ya.

    A couple of math problems. 1. 10:13 The pack is 14S5P (=70 cells). You have finished soldering the first pack. You said, "It's fully put together. Now we must do this five more times." It should be four more times. On the PCBWay page, you specify 5x4 cell holders and 5x3cell holds = 35 cells, but the project is for 70 cells. Despite my OCD nitpicking, this is a great video. What happened to the BMS?

    So, I can use any 60v / 30a power supply to charge them since the BMS will regulate the batteries??, I want to build a UPS, so it will be all the time the PS and the inverter plug-in to the batteries.

    What's the ampacity rating of those brass standoffs? Is there anything out there with less resistance we could use? I'm sure pure copper is probably a bit too soft.

      Batemo only got 9.3A CDR off those cells so I'd be careful saying they are capable of doing a lot more than 5A. I typically find a cells max CDR should be reduced by 50% to get the best balance of capacity, cycle life, voltage sag, and cell temp at discharge cutoff.

    You should make a 24 volt module. Most mobility devices like power wheelchairs and mobility scooters use 24 volt. Imagine not having to use lead acid.

    I have 30 21700 cells I bought. I want to make 12 volt ish battery packs. Is there a simple one way to do it?. I'm also looking for a charge board.

      Set them up in 3s10p, There’s no kit to do this because 3s = 11.1v = weird voltage that’s not usable with most 12v devices. You’ll likely have to build your battery pack from scratch

      These cells are used for EVs, so I would say you can expect pretty good cycle life.

      7-10 years.
      I'm more worried about time/entropy degradation, unless you're making a high output pack like for an electric bike, cycle count won't really matters as they'll slowly degrade and as long you know the capacity charged everytime, you'll notice it before anything goes wrong ;)
