- Finally back with another "But Make it Vintage"! This time I wanted to throw a spoOooOky twist on it and take on one of the classic movie monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon. I had SO much fun with this and trying out two totally new methods for me: painting a bodysuit and SFX prosthetics!

I went to school for theater and SFX makeup out in Hollywood, definitely air out the prosthetics as much as you can, also start gluing in the middle of your face, it'll help you center it in the right place. I would also use black stippling sponges to add extra color like the yellow with very little alcohol for that pop, it will look like freckles but give that color pop you wanted.
Also I have about 5 of the Illustrator palettes and a dozen single bottle colors and I love them and the investment has been worth it. I use them in cosplay and they're great for fake tattoos!
You did such an amazing job for your first time, keep pushing yourself because you're doing great in everything I've seen binging you the last two days!
I have almost no theater background, but that sounds like wonderful advice.

H.P. Lovecraft was xenophobic to pretty much everything that wasn’t alabaster white urban New England as a result of (probably) undiagnosed mental illness, anglophilia, and being a sheltered in an affluent family as a child.
If you look at his fiction a large portion of the time the protagonists are affluent and often influential older white men and the human antagonists are people of colour, “simple folk”, and foreigners.
I would love to see you and Mykie from Glam & Gore collab on something like this! You two would be hilariously creative together! :D

Oh man, that would be amazing! I can imagine some other vintage twists on Universal horror stars. Rockabilly Frankenstein's Monster. Film Noir Vixen Wolf (wo)Man. Flapper Phantom. You bring the historical styling. Mykie brings the SFX technique. And you both slay us with your humor and charm.

"The Lady From the Black Lagoon" is a great book about the female creator of the Creature. It's by Mallory O'Meara.

When I was a kid in the mid 70s there was this spooky-ass little theatre in London where I lived. I needed job so I got one doing the midnight show. The first movie was the re-released _Creature from the Black Lagoon_ in 3D. We had to hand out these red and green glasses to all the movie goers. The Creature actually came off the screen and into the auditorium. Generally speaking these years are a blur of the youth misspent, but this crazy usherette time wearing freaky glasses and groping around trying to avoid the Creature that was hurtling round the theatre kinda sticks in the memory.
When sexy fish man and the lover woman jumped into the river at the end of Shape of Water they morphed into one human and became Rachel

When I clicked, I wasn't expecting Mighty Boosh but I'm so glad I got it
Also, Ve was so very nice when I was working MATS As a videographer for PPI in their booth, she and maybe a dozen other make up artists we’re doing all sorts of demos, and they were really generous with the folks who were watching.
I also can’t speak highly enough of the PPI FX make up products. The alcohol products don’t come off with sweat, and their medical grade, their designed for folks who have medical reasons for needing make up. And so you can wear these products all day and they pretty much won’t come off. Which is awesome as well for special effects make up.
I believe it was also Ve who demonstrated the use of premade tattoos. They would have these sheets of printed tattoos that I believe use the same kind of ink as the skin illustrator is made of, although I think additionally they seal it with something. Whatever the case, that was a super cool demonstration as well, and the resulting tattoos look very real even from up close.

Tips, because I want to be a helpful human bean.
To blend your edges, thicken pros-aide by leaving it out for a couple of days or adding baby powder. Also, to paint on fabric, water down acrylic paint so that the fabric won't get stiff.
