@@jarnevanbec2886 Yes. I agree. I'm very much a socialist myself. Progressives and what we call liberals are smug and arrogant. The conservatives are sadistic and psychotic. Capitalism is in a zombie mode where it continues without any real benefit to the overwhelming majority. The people are themselves zombies because instead of criticizing capitalism as a failed socioeconomic system, they criticize each other on identity and culture issues. Working class in a war with itself, all the while capital engorges itself. Thanks for answering my question.

This would be all but illegal in the U.S. The only important thing for America is business. Nothing else matters. All solutions to all problems in America have to involve as many intermediate steps as possible, meaning all solutions have to involve as many businesses as possible. Funding via credit is the only way in the U.S. as well. In short, all "solutions" to problems in the U.S. have to be as inefficient as possible and as unaffordable as possible. Illegal? Yes, everyone is altriustic, benevolent and never profit-motivated except the USA. I am sure if you want to get with a bunch of your friends and build something like this, nobody's gonna stop you, as long as it's compliant to code. Yeah, this is a great alternative to those evil businesses - 40% of this development's funding comes from various provincial, national, and EU governments, so it's hardly self-sustaining....it's on the dole. Pretty sure a lot of complexity went into the design not to mention finding funding for it. I'm sure these people love their little "project" being funded by taxpayers. It probably works fine with a bunch of like-minded people living there with similar goals and world views and with heavy government funding. Probably not so well for average people and a petri dish for privacy issues and conflict. Yes, the water conservation is pretty funny in a country literally buried in water who have polders and dykes designed to keep it out, with no known water shortage issues. They also have a super mild climate by North American standards, they get plenty of rain, it's overcast half the year, and "heat" to them is 80°F. Source: me, I lived there. If you find NYC too expensive, you do have options on where you can live that are a lot cheaper, so don't project your personal frustrations from your ultra-expensive city onto all of us.

I know they're trying to conserve energy, and you can tell. Because I certainly can't see where anyone has wasted any "physical energy" cutting the grass or picking up junk in the yard! The place looks like a slum.

Wow, piles of trash, large pools of standing water, uncut grass and undergrowth, there's no possible way this could become a haven for pests and rodents in no time flat.
Well, at least the exterminators will be sure to have lots of business, just don't let your kids play outside if you don't want them getting tetanus, lime disease, hentavirus or any of the number of pathogens mosquitos carry.
It's wild the risks people will take for 'sustainability'.

Hmm. Nice idea. No doubt it will help, even if only to inspire improvements - like no solar batteries (lithium mines are even uglier than oil spills) and maybe without the petroleum-based trampolines. I'm all for building with hemp bricks or lumber, but for this to REALLY work, anything made of any plastic at all (like polyurethane on the kitchen cabinets) has to go. And good fkg riddance.
