A hint: when trying to get an engine running by jumping it off and the battery is completely dead, disconnect the dead battery, then try cranking the engine. More than half your amperage from the jumper cables is being used by the dead battery. It's both spinning the engine and trying to charge the battery at the same time.
Looks like the fuel filter is empty, check the fuel pump. Disconnect the hose between the fuel pump and carb crank the engine. There should be fuel coming out. If that doesn’t happen. Disconnect the hose between the firewall and fuel pump. Put that hose in a gas container (put gas in a water bottle) crank. If nothing, pump is shot. If it does move fluid then something is wrong with the fueling firewall to tank. (Maybe the fuel pickup intank?) Looks/sounded like it wanted to start with starter fluid so there’s spark and compression. it’s better to pull the battery out of a good car and try to start. Jumping a dead battery will damage the good one. If you’re doing it for a long time or if the battery is old.

We had no idea! Thanks for the tip! Looks like the old battery needs to go..
You are right...the Ansa exhausts do sound great. I have one on my car. I believe that they are no longer available though.

It was the points! They looked clean, but all it took was a little cleaning with some sand paper!
Are you down to sell the rear lights ?
Depends on the route we will go for this car. But not at the moment
