- Pac-Man Championship Edition was originally released in 2007 for the Xbox 360, and it is universally acclaimed as one of the best arcade games of the latest years.
Considered by many as "the real sequel to Pacman", this Namco Bandai game single handedly skyrocketed Xbox Live Arcade's success in 2007.
But what if this arcade game, designed for the HD generation of consoles came out in the 1980s?
We don't have to wonder anymore: PacMan Championship Edition has been ported to the NES. Well, technically the Famicom, its japanese equivalent.
And technically this port is contained in the latest Namco "All-Stars" collection, Namcot Collection, localized in the west as Namco Museum.
But in this video, we have a way to extract it, legally obtain its ROM from the Namco Museum game files and play it wherever you want.
This PacMan CE demake port definitely is one of the best demakes you can play and it perfectly captures the gameplay and feel of the original game in an 8 bit form, and today we'll be looking at it, checking out how it works, how it was made, how it uses the special Namco 163 audio chip and how to play this game on real hardware.

I remember the first time I played on the X360, my brother bought it and I fell in love with it ❤️ I've played the iOS version, and the android versions A LOT, always trying to improve my scores.
Then played the CE DX and CE 2 but nothing like the original one.
A few months ago, somehow got my brother's account and downloaded CE on my XSX and ohhhh, the nostalgia 😢❤️
No joke, less than a week later, Pac-Man Museum+ was launched on Gamepass 😭 I was so happy.

You think that's a big Bible? The lore starts at the end of The Rocky and Bullwinkle show when Rocky J. Squirrel makes a time machine to go to the year 2000. After that he changed his skin color, changed his name and moved to the state of Ohio. He had many children, but he and his wife had to abandon them due to many inconveniences. Meanwhile, Manny also had 7 children but also had to abandon them due to many inconveniences. Only 2 of Rocky’s children, Alex and Frank are important to this story. Lets start with Frank. Frank moved to China so he could live with a farmer and his beautiful wife, Sid. But one day he heard the farmer say that he would kick out Sid because the medicine for Sid’s injury from a bird were too expensive, so Frank decided to leave China with his wife and hide in the USA close to his brother. **Start of “La ardilla”** Meanwhile, Alex had 8 children with Rosa and lived a happy life, even though he had to hide 7 of them due to external inconveniences. But one day, they found a portal that took them to real life. After exploring for a bit and finding a glitch acorn, they eventually made it home. But right after they arrived, they found a glitched out version of their family “Giant squirrel” formation, and in the blink of an eye they got teleported to the video game “Squirrel Simulator 2: Online”. After a bit of a fight with a snake king, they finally found their way home. A few weeks later, Alex, Rosa and Marty were going for a walk when suddenly Rosa notices that his dad Manny came back after many years since he abandoned her. Some weeks later, Nina and 9 more children were born, but only Nina was born with a time-space bending ability that she wouldn’t discover for many years. The other 9 children were hidden. But right after she was born, Alex’s lost dad came back. Many months later, Alex and Rosa get sick and they need special medical plants only found in China to cure their parents. So, Marty and Nina decide to go on a dangerous trip to China over the course of 1 week using 2 prototype boats. But when they arrived… THEY REALIZED THEY WERE TOO LATE ☠️☠️☠️, Alex and Rosa had already died of sickness…

Marty and Nina became depressed, but after 5 years they recovered from their parents’ deaths. They decided to move to Frank’s house
**Start of “Las aventuras de Marty y Nina” (LADMYN)**
Marty and Nina were playing outside when they heard laughs coming from inside the house, so they didn’t think twice and entered so they could see what was happening. But when they entered, they found their lost aunt Sid. So Frank decided to explain everything to Marty and Nina, and as an extra he revealed that they had 16 lost brothers, which was very shocking to them. A few weeks later, Marty and Nina were chilling outside when all of a sudden another portal appeared out of nowhere and teleported Marty and Nina to Squirrel Simulator 2 once again, but this time they found out that their parents were still alive in Squirrel Simulator 2 but not in their universe and also they found out that there are 2 different identities for Marty and Nina from LADMYN and Marty and Nina from Squirrel Simulator 2, so they tried getting their Squirrel Simulator 2 versions of their parents (and that’s when Nina discovered her powers by opening portals at will), but they received an error message that said: “Error: Body ID not found”. Marty and Nina decided to go look for their parents’ corpses in their old house and try again. But then they realized that their house was transformed into a researching mini lab, and they found their parents’ corpses perfectly preserved in jars, so Marty and Nina stole the jars, went back to the portal and tried making their Squirrel Simulator 2 parents go trough the portal again. AND IT WORKED! But since they were the Squirrel Simulator 2 versions, they respawned in the researching mini lab. Alex and Rosa were confused at first, but then they went back and found Marty and Nina patiently waiting for them to return from their spawn points. A few months later, Nina was showing Marty her special powers by making fruits appear out of a portal, but when the last fruit was about to come out… THE GLITCH ACORN CAME BACK ☠️☠️☠️. The glitch acorn teleported Marty and Nina back to Squirrel Simulator 2. But when Nina was trying to get her and Marty out of there, they got sent to THE VOID (Actually Pixiefoxstudios’ “I’m loosing motivation” video). While in the void, Marty and Nina find the glitch acorn inside of a star collar (That belongs to PIxiefoxstudios) and right before they could’ve said anything they got teleported back to their universe…
But something went terribly wrong…
The glitch collar corrupted Pixiefoxstudios…
NOW EVIL PIXIEFOXSTUDIOS IS NOW CANON ☠️☠️☠️
**End of “Las aventuras de Marty y Nina” (LADMYN)**
**Start of “Project Star: Evil pixie’s awakening (LADMYN Finale)”**
Evil pixie had one mission and it was TO DESTROY THE EARTH AND NEXT THE MULTIVERSE SO SHE CAN FREE THEM FROM THE BAD PEOPLE IN THEM. But she was still trapped in the void, UNTIL she found an exit trough CodyIsFine’s optical illusion rug. “Maybe Cody could be a great power source for my evil machine” Evil pixie said, so she started building her new machine in Cody’s room. Meanwhile, JuanchyGamer and Juanchyta were fighting (as usual) when all of a sudden a portal appeared in their room. Juanchy and Juanchyta entered and found themselves in a somewhat old house. Also they found a note that said “Find her and destroy her. I need your help, the glitch acorn combined with the star collar and has transformed into the glitch collar. She now split in 2, normal and evil version. I wish you the best in your new adventure”. The Juanchy team was confused, but accepted the task. They first searched in PK XD, where they found Raymi_1213YT. They asked Raymi about the glitch collar, and he instantly recognized the glitch aura around the collar as the glitch acorn. So he told the Juanchy team to ask Marty and Nina. Marty and Nina told them that they last saw the glitch acorn in the void, but that was a problem because the void caused Nina to lose control of where her portals lead to. So they decided to use a rope so they can go back. While in the void (once more), they found a strange hole in the wall. Meanwhile Evil pixie was just finishing her new machine so she could destroy the world and the multiverse through the void when she heard strange noises coming from the optical illusion rug. “I’ll call this machine ‘Project STAR’” Evil pixie said, and that’s when the Juanchy team and Nina just randomly appeared out of the rug because they entered the strange hole on the void. Evil pixie was confused but right before she could attack she saw how the ancients were communicating with Nina. “You have been chosen to be the guard of the void” Ancient 1 said, “I hope you do as good as your aunt did, now you’ll have complete control of your powers in the void”. While Evil pixie watched with confusion, Juachyta sneaked up behind Evil pixie and slammed the glitch collar into the ground, basically destroying evil pixie and the glitch acorn. The multiverse was saved. After that they gave back the original collar to pixie and came back home, and they lived happily ever after…

5:08 Sorry to go turbo nerd but essentially, the reason was greed on Nintendo of America's part. In Japan, Famicom cartridges were produced by the publisher of the game, leading to a wide variety of cartridge colors, shapes and even sizes. The developer was free to implement whatever mapper chip they wanted since they were the ones producing them.
On NES, only Nintendo themselves produced the cartridges and the mappers available to all NES developers were only the MMC series Nintendo themselves produced. This was so Nintendo could make a profit on every NES game produced and also control the quantity so that the supply of third party games didn't outpace Nintendo's own first party titles.
Really cool chips like the Konami VRC6 and Namco 163 were thus unavailable on the NES and any games that used these mappers that wanted NES versions had to be converted to use Nintendo's standard mappers. Okay in most cases, but this did mean that the really cool edge cases expanding the Famicom were left in Japan only and also meant that all NES games are the same boring standard gray, with the exception of unlicensed games and marketing promotions in the case of gold Zelda carts.
Awsome now I can even run this on my nintendo64.

Well acrually they bought it from the anonymous guy and finished the project, but it was apparently almost finished gameplay wise, i thi k they just added the modern things and the awesome audio features.

Sadly, the game doesn't run on PS1 via the It might Be NES emulator. They really need to update that emulator to enjoy it on a PS1 classic.
