In a conductive space like you have, the wavelength is not the same as free space. You effectively have a capacitively coupled loading on the ends of the elements. A much larger diameter tube would likely do better. The area over which you take the RF energy is about equal to the tube's cross section. The efficiency with which you then bring it into the COAX is the big thing to optimize.
Andrew, this is very similar to antennas we used to use back in the 80s on news gathering vans to shoot a microwave signal back to the studio on around 2300 MHz. And some of us ham operators used to make these to shoot video to each other across town. The difference is that we made waveguides from coffee cans. A small hole drilled in the can 1/4 wave from the back of the can and a 1/4 wave of center conductor of 50 ohm coax protruding into the can made up the driven element. The can was then inserted into a short section of PVC pipe just larger diameter and a PVC cap glued on. This made for a rigid mount of the long all-thread rod which contained 20 or 30 washer discs of the proper size and spaced with plastic spacers. Nuts only at each end of the rod which was about 3 or 4 feet long. Lots of gain and narrow beam width. Sorry, I don't have dimensions to give you but you may not be far off with your project. I suspect that by inserting your parasitic elements down into the waveguide may introduce some unwanted reflection and SWR. I would shorten the waveguide and then mount the parasitic elements out on the end of the waveguide tube.
A 10db increase but still not as good as the canntena build here: goo.gl/3eVHtj so I will leave it up to you if you want to build your own. I will continue to work on improving this though as I have some more ideas.

Im really curious, have you ever considered taking apart one of these antennas in Ubiuiti routers and analyzing them? How do they work so well at such tiny sizes?
You will find that when you are attaching the center wire of a coax to your driven element if it's a flat plane such as this, the best match to the coax needs to be experimented with. If you have a spectrum analyzer, connect the coax to the analyzer and aim the antenna at a known signal source and touch the center wire of the coax to various areas of the driven element. You will find that you get a much stronger signal on some areas of the driven element than others due to a better impedance match. Once you have found a place with the best match, solder the center wire to that point. Excellent series of videos and very interesting.

The antenna thing really works. Even the ukrainian youtube team named kreosan did this (70 Decibels was the max). The farthest is 7 to 12 kilometers from their experiment location to the target Wi-Fi. The reception is cut when snowing but can receive the signals.

I would like to ask if you think that this general setup would be effective for a 900 MHz antenna and how are you calculating the dimensions of the parasitic and active elements. Also how do you determine the dimensions for the can you wish to use. Thank you advance for any information you can give me on this. I'm wondering if the reason the original design used a drive element 5mm larger and parasitic elements 3mm larger than your design is because the original plans called for a 4mm threaded rod. Perhaps the original designer intended for the builder to use a non-metallic rod, but he used a metal rod instead. Is it the overall diameter of the circular element that matters or is it the cross sectional length of metal that should be measured? I'm sure I'm not saying it right, but perhaps the original calculations take into account that there's a hole in the middle of the circular elements.

The difference between the metal threaded rod and plasctic threaded rod: all dishes are circuit short cut onto the metal one. All dishes are isolated from each other onto the plastic one, so, i think there is a problem with the metal one: you solder the ends of the cable one way onto a short cut (metal), the otrher way you solder the ends onto isolated dishes, like a capacitor. Can you explain the sense of these two extreme difference?
I have a recommendation for you experimentation. Try with one or two parasitic elements, and separation between reflector form active elements. That can be better about, from my experiences experimentation.

In fact, you don't need to find that kind of cylinder. You can find an ideal paper cylinder and stick a layer of tin platinum paper on the outside, which can also play the same role.

wonder if the "waves" are not blocked too much because round elements, just a thought that it might reflect too much before it hits the driven. At the moment testing my 2,4 sector antenna which stated as 16dbi and 90 degrees radiation pattern , so far very interesting result with 40+ wifi points while my phone pickup about 10. Need to find spare time to inspect the inner what should have 8 cone-shapes on some board and seperated H and V connectors.
A few people have said that maybe using less elements may make it perform better I will give it a go when the weather warms up as it does make sense when you think about it.

The frequency of WiFi starts at 2.4Ghz, meaning half it's wavelength should be 58-62mm. The directors in the WiFi gun is 37mm. Any reason why?

These are not true stainless steel they are a mix with a lot of tin. I have come across some that just will not solder even when buying from the same store. I got 10 of these last year same make same store and two of them would not solder.
pilipoff Anytime soldering a steel or iron part, use flux and it'll be easy. Flux paste or acid flux, plumbers flux or hydrochloric acid - each will do the job, but be careful with the acid.
What job do all the parasitic elements do if they are all seperated from the can? You only seperated the driven element from the reflector in previous antenna?

His design has the driven element at 1/2 wavelength and the others at 1/4 wavelength. 2.1 GHz is 143 mm & 1.8 GHz is 167 mm. You’ll also want to change your spacing. If you look up yagi spacing calculator, find one that lets you choose all of your variables, such as number of elements, diameter of parasitic elements, frequency.
i was thinking of making this one but i would like to do it with my Xiaomi Mi Wifi Repeater Pro but its antenna is built to it (unlike from the video that you can disassemble or remove the amtenna). Would it be fine if sattelite/cable tv wire is Twiddled to the repeater antenna directly? can i get signal with that (of course with the same directional antenna design) please i hope and ill be very glad if someone read this and answer my question. I have a TP-LINK model TL-WR840N router. I want to send signal to a repeater 2 floors bellow where the router is. The router has 2 antennas directly welded onto the board without a connector on the antennas. I need maximun signal strength in the direction of the repeater. Baut saya ganti dengan sumpit bambu, dan luar biasa, jadi seperti Yagi. Dari hanya mendapat 4 Access Point jadi dapat 32 Access Point. Mantao jiwaa ☺️

Should be able to get 16-24 miles with this. I would remove 1 or 2 plates on the big end.

I have a TP-LINK model TL-WR840N router. I want to send signal to a repeater 2 floors bellow where the router is. The router has 2 antennas directly welded onto the board without a connector on the antennas. I need maximun signal strength in the direction of the repeater. Is it a good idea to weld this kind of conector ( www.ebay.es/itm/Antena-Pigtail-Cable-F-Female-To-Y-Type-2XCRC9-Right-Angle-15cm-Para-Huawei/163024015983?hash=item25f4fd126f:m:meW5gXQ8227U467x5RFSVrQ ) to both outputs and have them conected to a wifi gun or should i only connect the wifi gun to a single output? Will the signal be stronger with both outputs connected to a single wifi gun or will that make the router go crazy and don't work at all?

Saya sudah buat, yang dari Kreosan channel juga, tidak bekerja, ternyata itu cuma tipe Yagi yang dibuat bundar. Kelemahannya pada bautnya ditengah yang menghantarkan signal, jadi sia-sia saja.
Baut saya ganti dengan sumpit bambu, dan luar biasa, jadi seperti Yagi. Dari hanya mendapat 4 Access Point jadi dapat 32 Access Point.

@@banuekoagustiawan5696 jangan, jangan pernah memakai bahan metal atau apapun yang bisa menghantarkan listrik. Pakai saja sumpit kayu atau plastik, atau kayu, atau lidi. Apapun yang tdk menghantarkan listrik.

@@banuekoagustiawan5696 gak perlu pakai wadah apapun, aku pakai wadah reflektor aluminum memang dapat Access Point yg banyak tapi gak stabil. Kalau gak pakai malah dapat lebih banyak dan stabil. Teorinya memang kaleng aluminum sebagai reflektor dan pengumpul sinyal, tapi dalam praktek malah menghalangi mengurangi efektifitas Yagi
