Hello, portuguese here. Madredeus isn't "pure" Fado but it is very influenced by it. Teresa Salgueiro, the woman singing here was their vocalist until 2007 and it's one of the finest voices in Portugal. If you want more Madredeus I recommend 3 of my favorite songs by them. Vaca de Fogo, O Pastor, O Labirrinto Parado
Haja o que houver Whatever may come eu estou aqui I shall be here Haja o que houver Whatever may come espero por ti I shall wait for you Volta no vento, ó meu amor Come back with the wind, oh my love Volta depressa por favor Come back quickly, please Há quanto tempo, já esqueci For it has been so long, that I have already forgotten Por que fiquei longe de ti Why I am here, so far away from you Cada momento é pior For every moment, it feels worse Volta no vento, por favor Come back with the wind, please Eu sei For I know Quem és pra mim What you mean to me Haja o que houver Whatever may come Espero por ti I shall wait for you Há quanto tempo, já esqueci For it has been so long, that I have already forgotten Por que fiquei longe de ti Why I am here, so far away from you Cada momento é pior For every moment, it feels worse Volta no vento, por favor Come back with the wind, please Eu sei For I know Quem és pra mim What you mean to me Haja o que houver Whatever may come Espero por ti I shall wait for you Eu sei, eu sei I know, I know Quem és pra mim What you mean to me Haja o que houver Whatever may come Espero por ti I shall wait for you
Thank you for your reaction! 🥰 If you like guitars, and the portuguese guitar, you would really enjoy "ó gente da minha terra, live from Lisboa " sang by Mariza
After leaving the band, Tesesa Salgueiro, the leading singer, started a solo career and you can listen #Alegria, her voice is incredible as usual. One of the most charismatic Portuguese female singers.
Come what ever may come I'm here Come what ever may come I'll be waiting for you ( I'll wait for you or I wait for you ) Return on the wind Oh My Love Return quickly please! It was so long ago I have just forgotten Why I stayed Far from you Each Moment It's worse... Return on the wind Please! I know, I know What you mean to me Come what ever may come I'll be waiting for you ( I'll wait for you or I wait for you )
Hello Ginger and Mike,I not believe that you are reacting to Madredeus, thank you for your reaction....next time please you have to react to Dimash,I already miss him...Greetings from Portugal😍😍😍😍😘😘😘😘
Turn the lights down, light the candles, lay in front of the fireplace and put Madredeus on :) very soothing, I almost nodded off ..till the mouth harp started up, hmmmmmm.
It is a didgeridoo indeed XD We do have some influences from the Asian Continent (from India, China-Macau and Japan) and in this particular case, it is most likely that we got knowledge of the didgeridoo and influenced by it, because of Indonesia and nowadays Timor-Leste close to the north part of Australia... Not the best part of our History when it comes to Human Rights, but Portugal did occupy Timor-Leste and Ilha das Flores from 1596 to 1975.
I've read the comments here and the discussion about this song be or not fado, the thing , they appear when fado was not so popular and as much is is not fado they explored the themes ans ambiance of fado culture an motivate the comeback of fado.
Hi Loved your reaction. Like someone said madredeus is not really fado but theres influences for sure. O pastor, vaca de fogo and os senhores da guerra are amongst their best work
Mike and Ginger acho ter um site de musica e nao conhecerem madredeus...foram cartaz em muitas cidades .da europa e do resto do mundo...25 anos de concertos...com salas esgotadas....
The best portuguese' s voice ever with Amalia. You should react to the greatest song of the band : O paraiso, may be the most beautiful song ever written and sung.
This is pop Fado but the latter has its origins in Greek tragedy. Suffering over a lost love is universal . Beatriz Nunes is another Fado vocalist that has a higher range than Teresa Sanguerno, but equally affective.

Please, please please! Listen to Mariza - Gente da Minha Terra. It just gives shills upon shills. And to us Portuguese, just gives us a pure sense of melancholy ....
4:44 that sound is probably from a jaw harp, its not a traditional instrument per say..but then again Portuguese music is influenced by african/brasilian music a lot
It is called in Portuguese "Berimbau" it is one of the oldest musical instruments in the world. Archaeologists have found, at an archeological site in west Asia, instruments that would date back to the fourth century.

Verdes Anos - Carlos Paredes - Listen with eyes closed ;) you are welcome
it's not fado....it's somewhere around that...madredeus has a very unique sound that includes fado and other portuguese traditional styles of music....great reaction tho!!! 🙂
Canção do Mar by Dulce Pontes is, to me, the most beautiful Portuguese song that embodies all that having a Portuguese soul really means. It is not Fado in its traditional format but the longing and the emotion is all there. It was originally sung by the greatest of all Fado singers, Amalia Rodrigues, a voice like no other that captured the audience anywhere where she would perform around the world, even if they could not understand a single word. I suggest by her, “Estranha forma de Vida” for a taste of traditional Fado and for a more modern take, Mariza, with “Gente da minha Terra”. thank you for bringing such beauty from back home into your channel! th-cam.com/video/krCBnAs1haM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/S2Ip-uUhaoI/w-d-xo.html
The most beautiful love song ever written in the Portuguese language. Teresa's voice is heavenly!

Hello Crestina, if you feel like listening to Ana Moura - maldição ao vivo, stay safe a hug from Portugal.
Hello from Portugal! The sound you listened at 4:43 it´s a "berimbau de boca" (mouth berimbau), one of the oldest instrument of the world.
After leaving the band, Tesesa Salgueiro, the leading singer, started a solo career and you can listen #Alegria, her voice is incredible as usual. One of the most charismatic Portuguese female singers.
Teresa is one exceptional soul, i hope God can guide her and bless her and us with her amazing voice!

Mariza is great but in my opinion the truest voice in fado is Ana Moura.
