Kpop artists, like Blackpink, always accused of cultural appropriation, but in fact these people are just appreciating how great the culture of different races around the world, without any bad intention.
In my own perspective is, You can accuse the person of CA if he/she use it to made fun of it. But if they used it in like performance,I think that's what we call Cultural appreciation, we need to embrace also other culture's for us not to be naive & to learn other countries culture.That's what we learned from school. CA was used by kpop haters only.
I completely agree I feel like sometimes people try to use cultural appropriation as a way to negatively impact someone’s career just because their life is mediocre or not what they would like it to be. I think instead of protesting or waving a flag of discord or discontent for someone loving our style as black people or African-Americans we should take it as an ultimate compliment and especially if they do it well, and not in a condescending manner it’s a complement, so I agree with you, and I say thank you new subscriber.
Thank you for your comment - I gained new insight as a fan of BP and YG artists in general. May I also share that YG has been the “hiphop” label in Korea that successfully launched their career in the mainstream Kpop and dubbed as one of the Big 3s that has legacy in producing groups and artists with that YG aura in contrast with other groups as bubblegum pop, ballad, pop, etc. Trainees have been wanting to debut within YG because they too are influenced by the hiphop culture - for years of training (3-7 years) they mostly use rnb and hiphop for their monthly evaluations. To name a few, BEP worked with 2ne1 in the states, Missy Elliot had a collab on stage with GD, even Flo rida; Will Smith with Jaden Smith visiting YG during his promotions in Korea for a movie and was able to meet them privately and even before BP debuted because he says he was a a fan of Kpop. YHS/YG (founder) was from a hiphop group, Teddy (BP’s main producer) was also from hiphop group. I feel sad when they are being criticized for something they are heavily influenced of even outside of the limelight - it is the least they would do to something they really grew up with.

Sometimes it’s indeed negative and appropriation but sometimes it’s more on the appreciation and inspiring side and I feel people sometimes can’t seem to difference both, I mean a lot of artists have been vocal and acknowledge being highly inspired by black artists and knowing all of this coming from black people, sometimes there’s actually people really appreciating and inspiring themsleves. Tho indeed A lot are doing it the wrong way too and and are uneducated and sometimes really racist as Korea is a very Homogenous country but I’m all for educating people when it’s truly out of ignorance and it’s not repeated but I TOTALLY agree I feel like we’ve came to an age especially with kpop and fan wars that, a shit ton people aren’t even « dragging » people out of honesty and care for our culture but it’s more like people try to find and create stuff to impact one’s career because they don’t like the artist/ group, when, if you peep the action it’s not even disrespectful or it’s a big reach, but somehow some artists/ groups get’s bandwagon hate for nothing and other artists or groups that proved did and said SEVERAL times more than questionable stuff are somehow swept under the rug. People were claiming that Lisa had "box braids". If people knew exactly that box braids are and had eyes, they would see that Lisa's braids were not box braids. She had her hair tied up in a high ponytail with normal braids on the "tail". A simple Google image search of box braids would make it obvious that Lisa did not have box braids. Some people are just hating, overly sensitive or just ignorant.

One Black women said she doesn't see this as culture appropriation, but culture appreciation. I loved that. So many cultures have been adapted since are world is getting smaller & more fused together. I'm Japanese & remember a time very few would try sushi & now most love it. To see Asian music cross over & of course with adapting to music from Black culture. The 70's many Blacks got into the martial arts. It's just a blend of people. Who knew dreadlocks originated in India.

Triple braid has been in our culture for so long and if foreigners want to braid them hairs I'd love to see them in it, and not be like why are you trying to look cool or CA on them. I totally agree with what you said, it's obviously honoring, not mocking or disrespecting. Religion, we can say, has more cultural meaning and impact than hairstyles, does that mean only the people of India can practice or teach Buddhism or Hinduism? The invention of the light bulb was done by white people and that was pretty damn important for western culture, does that mean only white people can use lightbulbs? Sushi is pretty important to the culture of Japan, does that mean black people aren't allowed to be sushi chefs if they want to be? A black sushi chef would be profiting and benefiting over something another race has invented. Oh wait, it's almost like every race on earth has benefitted from sharing things and ideas with other races throughout history. But now suddenly a hairstyle cannot be copied, when every other thing is acceptable to copy and adopt. People wanna culturally or racially divide everything, doesn't make any sense. Next thing you know, people with naturally straight hair can no longer curl their hair anymore, because another race has claimed "curly hair" as theirs already. Ridiculous. This is the result of the push for race division by political factions and organizations, because they benefit from it, they get support and money from it.

Lisa didn´t braid her hair to mock or make fun of black people so I don´t think that there is ever anything bad about it. Since you're new to Blackpink (I just got into them last June this year), I suggest you react to all their group songs first (including the b-side tracks) then you react to Jennie and Rosie's solo songs since you're already done with Lisa's :) you should also throw in a few dance practices in the middle of all that, you're sure to have fun and be impressed. Lisa's solo dance performances, too, in her youtube channel! ..if you're into that stuff.

I totally agree with what you said, it's obviously honoring, not mocking or disrespecting. Religion, we can say, has more cultural meaning and impact than hairstyles, does that mean only the people of India can practice or teach Buddhism or Hinduism? The invention of the light bulb was done by white people and that was pretty damn important for western culture, does that mean only white people can use lightbulbs? Sushi is pretty important to the culture of Japan, does that mean black people aren't allowed to be sushi chefs if they want to be? A black sushi chef would be profiting and benefiting over something another race has invented.
Oh wait, it's almost like every race on earth has benefitted from sharing things and ideas with other races throughout history. But now suddenly a hairstyle cannot be copied, when every other thing is acceptable to copy and adopt. People wanna culturally or racially divide everything, doesn't make any sense. Next thing you know, people with naturally straight hair can no longer curl their hair anymore, because another race has claimed "curly hair" as theirs already. Ridiculous.
This is the result of the push for race division by political factions and organizations, because they benefit from it, they get support and money from it.

Much appreciated what you said about cultural appropriation. It made me mad that people just try to accuse Lisa and Blackpink about all those negative stuff. Lisa didn´t braid her hair to mock or make fun of black people so I don´t think that there is ever anything bad about it. And just because I´m Asian, every time I say something, they would go like ¨you are not black so you have a say in this¨ 🙄. And for the black that tried to defend Lisa, they would say ¨you don't represent the whole black culture¨ 🙄🙄🙄. At this point, it is ridiculous to even try to talk something into them.
