I'm sad to see the walk-on program go for all the reasons you mentioned but I also question if it was something we should have still invested so heavily into. For a bunch of reasons we've underperformed the last 2 decades and everything needs questioning. We now have the same resources, coaches, and facilities for 105 players instead of 140-150. Lets face it development has been a huge issue on and off for a long time now and throwing numbers at it hasn't consistently worked since the Osborne era.
A few of these players will end up at UN Kearney. Some will end up at NAIA schools like Concordia and Hastings College. Some if not many of the preferred walk-ons will be on scholarship since we now are allowed 105 instead of 85. Others will go to No Dak St, No Dak, So Dak and So Dak St. A few may even end up at Wyoming as they already recruit Nebraska. After a couple of years the cream of the crop will go into the portal and Nebraska will have to battle other schools looking for help in their program.
I hate that they are doing this, but it will work out in the long run. Do you want fun stories or do you want to win???? Coaching 180 guys compared to 105 will show up in wins. 70 less guys to pour resources and coaching hours into. Compare it to a teachers classroom you can make a difference when there's smaller class sizes. More reps in practice and individualized attention!!!
That walk on program was epic. It's too bad. But you gotta do what they say. I think the NCAA was trying to put a stop to kids not having scholarships but getting NIL to make up for it. They're trying to limit how many players the teams have so they can't bogart all the talent with having more money.
Its all gonna be about who has the most NIL money and best coaching staff, Nebraska needs to try to get some of that warren buffet money. Especially when you have ppl like phil knight giving so much to oregon and both Michigan and Ohio State paying over 20 million for thier roster.
@delux6993 Riley wasn’t around long enough to develop. No Bo could not develop. Hence the shitty defenses after 2010 and 60% attrition rate you foolishly pinned on Riley for inheriting from him.
@@johnfahrer5038 Like Callahan before him, if you don’t have any ties to Osborne you don’t get the benefit of the doubt. It’s unfortunate that Riley was not able to take advantage of the portal. Pelini’s roster mismanagement left a lot of holes on the depth chart.
Glad. Too many pwo’s at Nebraska should be playing fcs or in the Mountain West. Some are D2. Rather see those players produce elsewhere and transfer up, or return to Nebraska
There’s been a lot of Scholarship Dead Weight also. The 105 is actually a blessing. Players are going to have to produce. They can’t just ride the bench for 4-5 years anymore.
Comment your thoughts! 👀🌽
Sad to see the walk on program go away... so many young men were able to get on the field!
I agree

Nebraska needs to stop being prisoner to the Osborne era practices. It was great but how can it applicable in 2025?

I'm not happy with this development, we have had some mighty fine walk-on players. It seems like big money is screwing up everything.
The best bet at this point would be a juco since it does not start your clock and if you are good enough we will recruit you from there.

We're now just another football program. 🤬
Yeah... I don't care much for the direction that I see college football going 😔 but, it is what it is sadly 🤷🏾♂️ GBR! 🏈🌽🎈☠️
Thank yall from across football legends came out of there for the nfl also
Winds of change. I have a feeling that Rhule has been encouraged to take the NFL element and hit the ground running!

They may have to play at the Dakotas and hope to get a FA NIL deal with Nebraska later.
More Dakota players have gone to NFL in last 7 years than Nebraska

Nebraska has had a developmental problem that stretches back towards the latter half of the Pelini era.
@@johnhamilton7797 Pelini players were developed? The issue started with Riley our lineman become weak and got pushed around during his tenure.

It is sad because of the history we had but it's an opportunity for them to play for another FBS or FCS team.

Quality over quantity. Invest more time and resources into the more talented to elevate the team performance and outcomes. 💪
We knew this was coming
Well with the reduction of roster cap at 105 no room to have to many walk ons.
Duh
There won’t be any more walk one, 105 scholarships for 105 players, unless you’re a mean coach all your players should have scholarships
I don't know what to think about this i need a min to let all this sink in ..... Is this a good move for us??????
Did the NCAA say why they are limiting roster sizes. The walk on program was great for college football.
NIL exploits
Bye walk ons 👋🏻
College Football is officially dead.
I mean if u good enough to play u would have been a starter and get a scholarship offer....otherwise ur just a bench warmer...
