Thank you very much for this video. It worked perfectly. I was braced for taking the bumper off and this was so much easier. The hardest part was convincing the position lights to come out. I had to get needle nose pliers onto them carefully to get enough grip and then pull hard. Then one of the main beam bulbs fought me but after fiddling for ages it just locked into place. I definitely recommend this approach to changing the bulbs.
Oh, dear. Now, I'm unable to get changed bulb back into place. I've tried putting in a bunch of different ways, where it feels nice and flush, and turned it clockwise, and I'm unable to do it.
Hi. The car is currently at the shop getting a valve cover gasket replaced, so I asked them to complete the job of changing the headlight bulb. It's the main bulb I was trying to change. Very frustrating, because I've always changed bulbs in my cars.
Hi Cyd, did this today on my 06 9-3 diesel estate. Being a subscriber to your channel I followed your video for help, went a bit further and removed the battery and battery box. Was on the to do list to clean up earth and positive connections due to only 12.9 volts with engine running. All back together now, 13.6 volts now so improvement. I fitted Philips racing vision H7 halogens and to look at deffo brighter than standard. To be honest a candle mounted inside the headlight would be better than standard. :-) removing the battery and box including the air box made this job so much easier, bags of room, changed the side lights too. They just pull straight out. Long nose pliers deffo help. Push back in easy, took out high beam bulb for easier access. Changed dipped beams to new Philips. Taking car out later when it gets dark to test them out. Deffo much brighter to look at, hopefully be able to see better on dark B and A roads. Coming home from Lincoln the other night via the A1 was quite scary, dipped lights useless. Could only use high beam when nothing coming the other way, was very busy so down to 40mph for me, any quicker was a no no. :-( thanks for your video Cyd, gave me the kick up my arse I needed to get my lights sorted. :-) thanks, Vinny.
PSA: Be very careful with taking off and putting on the igniter, because if you're not, you will break the 4 notches that secure the igniter like I did.
Anybody had a problem putting the igniter back on? Have my little feet lined up, bulb is sitting in there nicely, but no joy. Right sign box won't go back on. Great vid, by the way, really great.
who knew- for anyone else this happens to, there is a yellow ring with 4 notches on the inside of the igniter that need to be lined up with the notches on the interior wall of the igniter- I juggled it out of place apparently.
Yup, my roomie compared the two igniters and noticed the one I was having a problem with had that inner ring notch out of alignment. I lined it up properly and it then went back on easy peazie. Cyd, this is about the best DIY car video I've seen, really top notch. Thanks for doing this.
Thanks I have that problem now, can't even get the old bulb back on... gonna go out and check. Edit. yep that was the problem, one ring was a bit tricky to rotate but other then that no problem getting everything back into place. Thanks.
Thanks, I'm happy it helped. I've seen so many instructions that say the bumper needs to be removed, but just not necessary. If you need more help with Saab 9-3 stuff or have any suggestions for videos, then add to the comments.
Most likely it's the bulb, but you could swap the good bulb from the other side to make sure. If it is the bulb, best practice is to replace both with a matched pair.
Hello Under the front bumper driver side there is a harness with a plug that is broken . Would you know what that is for? Pretty much directly under the driver side bumper under everything
Do you think an aftermarket LED bulb with a fan on the back or a metal heat sink would fit on? Because the ballast makes contact with the back of the bulb I cant see that happening. LED's wont work would they?
The video is an excellent guide to do this work. Just a comment, however. Our host says the right hand bulb is much easier to replace because the area is less cluttered. Well, not if your Saab is equipped with A.C., then the area jammed with rigid aluminum tubing and access is very limited. Pray your right bulb lasts forever.
I managed to lose the clip for the bulb itself, is that a crucial component? xd I put it together without it and looks nice but I suppose it could jiggle out of it eventually
