I'd get what you have or a replacement axle reconditioned because anything else seems likes a wild goose chase, plus you won't 100% know the history of a different axle. You could get any second hand axle reconditioned before putting it in, as axles are only around £200 & you'll still have the van on the road until it's ready to install. All in all reconditioning is the way to go weather it's a replacement axle or your own one ?
Chins up guys it'll work out. Perseverance is the key. We have a 24 year old camper and finding spares for it is sometimes a nightmare but stay with it as something always comes up. Glad the dogs are okay. We have 2 dogs who travel with us when we go off in the van. Love our dogs as you love yours. Bless you all. x
Margaret is a Minx.....and very convincing. Oh no vinny is not ready to depart. Seriously hope you guys find the part you need and get vinny up and running around again. Hope Charlie keeps well, not forgetting Dizzie. Keep positive guys. 💚
Finding good mechanics on the road can be difficult. Glad to see you found some that you can trust, and way to stay positive in this challenging moment..
It was to get their opinion and originally we thought it was just the exhaust!! Also as it was Sunday (as we explained in the video) they were the only mechanics open.. There wasn’t any others yo ‘pick’ !
@@theexPAWers Kwik-fit & Halfords are fine for a bog-standard exhaust (some of them do clutches &/or brakes as well) but they have absolutely minimal training. The job they do they do well but don't stretch their limits. Sometimes they hire experienced mechanics so you can get lucky for a diagnosis but they don't order in parts so if any spares you need are outside their very limited range you need to go elsewhere.

I had a badly noisy diff so i put a ceramat nanoparticle additive that rebuilds the bearing surfaces stronger than the base steel. It is fine now. It was Xado gearbox/diff additive. Sounds like voodoo but give it a go, costs about $40 a tube, start with two and add more after run in period if not fully reconditioned. It turned my diff from having multiple sounds indicating 2 or more different issues and in the words of my mechanic, "you will be seeing me soon about that." to a year later still going strong.
Hi guys, you need to get the diff taken out of the rear axel and stripped down. It may just be bearings, if the pinion bearing goes it makes a horrible noise and that would be an easy fix. Today no one fixes anything they just replace parts, we fix everything where possible even if we have to make special tools to do it. I'm 2 and a bit weeks on from hip surgery and getting better all the time, my offer is still open if you get recovered to me I'll get it apart and we can go from there. David
Thanks David.. It is the pinion and we’ve called several specialists who say they won’t be able to get the replacement part to do this as the van is so old, went direct to Ford too who say the same! Also to get it rebuilt, the quotes we’ve had have been very expensive.. A replacement axle seems our best option and we also need someone to come here and fit it😢
@@theexPAWers hi guys, if it is only the pinion bearing gone it needs removing and measuring to find a replacement. The chances of it being an odd size are slim, they are generally a taper roller bearing that an good bearing specialist should be able to supply along with a replacement oil seal. Unfortunately this sort of work is way beyond most run of the mill garages, it will be a specialist like me. If you go down the axel replacement route, the chances of finding one complete to swap will be slim. I would removing your old diff and just use the diff from the replacement axel, this is the simpler and cheaper way of doing it.
Try Medway Ice cream supplies Rochester Kent. As you said most transits that age are long gone, only one's left are camper vans and cream vans. they may give you a contact or have old parts.
Guys I feel your pain, I got a 1997 boxer and the fuel pump broke down and I had two alternatives buy a second hand one or get it refurbish. I chose the more expensive way and got it refurbished it took over 3 weeks but it came back looking brand new, those 3 weeks were the longest 3 weeks of my life knowing if it will ever get back on the road. Van life can throw so much shit at you all at one but usually if there’s a will there’s a way. Good luck and fingers crossed for you both

I’m in Australia so I am trying to support your channels subscribing to everything and I will work out a donation too. Wishing you all the best of luck 👍😎
Hi Nick and Sarah. I hope it's not too long before you're back on the road. You are both amazing to cope with this uncertain situation. Take care. I wish I could do something to make this all go quicker. XX
Thanks, but it’s not that easy unfortunately.. Way expensive to rebuild and probably won’t be able to get the replacement parts (crown wheel and pinion😫)
To be honest guys with what you do and the miles you travel a second hand dif/axle is a high risk as you just don't know how long it will last. A rebuild although expensive and time consuming in the long run it will be better and give peace if mind on your future adventures
Thanks for the advice.. The pinion went on ours so proving impossible to rebuild as they don’t make these parts anymore (contacted specialists and Ford) it would be more than the van is worth to fix and this is only if they found the part.. we feel that the replacement axle is the only realistic way forward for us xx
@@theexPAWers Ford for many years have had a policy of throwing all spares in the skip 15 years after the last vehicle rolls off the production line, sometimes they stretch it to 10 years although EU law requires 15.
@@theexPAWers I assume you've typed 'differential repairs' into Google Maps? There's a selection around Gravesend, Dartford & south west Essex that have been trading for many decades, they may have a new pinion in stock or a blank to make one.
Isn't it odd - we watch you every week, we know what you look like, and we feel like we know you and the boys. But you dont know us at all! I'm glad that some of your followers are able to help, and that you've come up with some options. I hope Vinny is soon back on the road and you can go up to see your families. Good luck!
I so feel for you, and seeing Charlie having a wee wobble is sad, but so glad hes ok now. Hang in there, l love how positive you are. See you next time lol Alioban xxxx
I had the same problem with my van finding a garage that could get me through the door and have a roof hight that could allow the ramp to lift me. It's a big problem. I really hope you manage to find the part soon, I am sure there is an entire van rusting away in a scrap yard somewhere with the right diff. After all there were more transits made than any other van. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. Xx
guys, In your youtube headings, please can you put the make/model/year of vinny - your subscribers will find the part for you, but its difficult to keep refering back to prvous vids to find the info.
Maybe get a cheap van for now? And then fix vinnie in the longer term? A lwb vauxhall vivaro? Cheap to fix, easy to find parts for, easy to do a quick kitout with basic essentials.
Would be a good idea but we don’t live here and re-registering a uk vehicle in Spain would be too difficult with everything on the opposite side etc.. But we’ve got this down as an option!!
I really hope you get this sorted sooner rather than later. I wish I could help but I'm oop north. Still, you're putting on a brave face. Stay positive.
The diff fluid that came out looked like mud. I had a diff problem in my truck while traveling a long distance. I changed out the fluid which fixed it right up.
Hope it all goes well with Vinny guys, must be a nightmare. Hope you had a great anniversary and enjoyed your meal. In all these years I've had a Ridge Monkey like yours, I've never thought of heating a Pie in one. Thats going to improve my eating enjoyment from now on so thanks for that. Take care guys!
The problem with a used diff is it possibly has a similar number on kms and bearings may and probably should be replaced and that is a fair chunk of a reconditioning cost. The last thing you want is for a bearing, oil seal or pinion gear to fail six, twelve months. It is a balancing act weighing up the cost of replacing the van or reconditioning the diff. I don't know the price of 10 year old van in the UK or Europe is but hear in Australia we are looking at ~A$20,000- 30,000 so a A$3,000-4,000 refurbish and install is cheap. Just keep in mind (excluding the cost of the diff used or rebuilt) the cost to remove and install a used diff is the same as removing and fitting a refurbished diff are the same. The cost difference between a used diff that you have no idea of it's condition, may not be that much different to having your's repaired, but there is the time component to factor in. The other long term consideration is what will fail next, the gearbox, clutch or motor. They all have a finite life and if one has given up there is the real possibility that more will happen... Wish you both all the best with this problem.
Make sure you know the ratio of your replacement axel it could cause a havoc in many European countries trying to climb mountains, but on the flat could save a few Euros on diesel, also make sure your mechanic uses lock tight tread fixing paste on the prop shaft bolts, so that they don't spin off,
well, that's the problem with garages and parts suppliers these days. They cannot find the part without the vehicle registration. When spares were bought from scrapyards/ auto dismantlers/ bills repair garage , all they needed was the approx year, make and model. Same day you would have the whiffle valve for your 1984 Thrapston Flaggelator , 3.5 litre , side valve, diesel, 8 seater, 4 berth, scrumper pumper, which fit every model since the 1854 push start. Then Bill would fit that part in 20 minutes on the pavement, outside of his garage. ...I miss bill. I drive a 1984 vw T3 😞
You guys really do deserve some good luck. I have my fingers and toes crossed that the part you need can be found. I do love Margaret (she does look familiar though)😂 Keep your spirits up and hopefully you will be back on the road very soon 🙏
We hope that you get Vinny back on the road soon. It's worth finding a replacement axle even if it costs a few thousand as he means so much to you and he's otherwise in good health. Just use some of the money that you had put aside for a bit of land in Portugal. Best of luck and good wishes. Paul & Liz
Thanks so much guys.. We really want to make this work and keep Vinny on the road for a while longer, he’s been such a great van over the last 5 years so hopefully we can keep him for a while longer! Thanks so much for watching..😁
From your video it sounded like the Pinion Bearing has gone, dead giveaway is if noise changes when accelerating then backing off! Hope the Axle I found might be of use? All the Best
Yep.. Pinion has gone😢 not just the bearing! Getting it rebuilt is crazy expensive and we don’t think it’s even possible to get the part anymore as this means crown and pinion need replaced, only option now is possibly replacing the whole axle it seems for us x
@@theexPAWers I had a Jeep Gand Cherokee Pinion Bearing go and welded itself to the Pinion and couldn't remove it! Couldnt get the parts or an Axle! It was a 2010!!! Fitted a 2nd one!
Glad we have seen this video tonight as we have been thinking about how you were doing. As I said last time I am born and bred Dover. So watching where you had your meal out at the pub. Our last bungalow we lived in was one of those opposite. And then when you went to that garage you were parked next to a road haulage company. I worked there for 25 yrs. This is bizarre. Gosh I hope you find that part I really do. We are still at home in Mijas Costa as its just been too hot to go out in our van but have decided to hit the coast as from Monday. Best of luck guys.
I have rebuilt lots of Ford axles in my time and yours is the classic fault of emulsified oil due to the axle breather being blocked. The level plug that the mechanic removed should not have oil coming out of it which proves it has filled up with condensation and that is why the axle has failed.Do not change the complete axle just the diff. When it is stripped the axle casing and axle tubes should be thoroughly cleaned and breather unblocked.Fords do not give a drain plug on their axles so the oil is probably the original.I think the crown wheel and pinion will probably be damaged.I think recon your diff is the answer or a second hand one that has been inspected by someone that is is familiar with these diffs. The mechanics that are in garages now are too young and do not have a clue how to set up these diffs when being rebuilt.Hope this info will help you.
Thankyou so much for the information, we’ll share what happened next week as the story continues, your information is really great and you are right!! x
Hi guys hope your both fine, I have not been on for a few days so I am just asking you how you are getting on with looking for the parts you need to put on vinnie and keep it in the family as I know it’s a big part of your life , I hope you are having luck, take care and love to you all ❤ Jim and Deb
Did you get fixed up with an axle? We used to do nothing but transits, but now closed down. Is the axle, not the same as the MK 2. I know there used to be two different types. One had a square shape where the drive shafts are , and one was round. The best and quickest thing to do is replace the complete axle. But like you say, there are many different ratios etc. So your speedometer may end up not being correct. That's if you find one, did the sound just come on over time. It's unusual if it was quiet and went quickly. Not saying it's not the axle, but has the prop shaft centre bearing been checked (if fitted) Just advice
Thanks for the advice Bill, the prop centre bearing was changed last yeah by our friend.. And it’s definitely the Diff.. It’s the square type and hopefully we’ve got a solution now (a very good lead) keep your fingers crossed for us xxxx
Keep with the Positive attitude. I think you are right doing all you can keeping Vinny on the road as your main option. There is so much history in that van and it is part of the exPAWers team so must be kept alive. I know you probably don't want to but why not start a crowd funding page to see if you can get some help towards the costs. I am sure many of your subscribers would like to donate to help. Perhaps another Subscriber knows how to do this as I have no idea. It is not charity I would see it as giving something back for all the hours of entertainment to provide throught your channel
awwwww, Thankyou for your kind message.. A few people have mentioned this crowd funding page but we feel like it’s not right to ask for money from people, if we have to get another van and Vinny can’t be fixed then maybe that would be the time but for now we will do everything to get him back on the road ☺️xx
Hi you two, only just seen this, if you are really struggling I have a complete rear axle with diff sitting in my shed, it's from a petrol Mk3 so the gearing will be a bit different can't remember if they work out higher geared or lower but it will propel Vinney along at some sort of speed!!! down side is it's in Pembrokeshire West Wales!
@@theexPAWers You should be able to find one over that way, there are a couple of transit parts specialists on ebay that might be able to point you in the right direction for a good van breakers,
Bumpt start but won't it be grand when the Vinster is back on the road, raring to go. Stay safe, think positive, and love on those 2 little boys. Wish I could help more from Idaho.
The is a small tin plate on the diff which will have all the numbers of the axial you will need sorry I can't pick up a part for you I am back in Spain know good luck with it
Get some universal greese on the bearing on the side door bearings and runner, it'll take that scrapping sound away when you slide the door shut unrelated but
We now have same problem (kinda) just mot tax insurance tons of welding, we were out Sat prked up went to go home engine started but not ticking over , we call break down he said no fuel getting to it , so we get some (incase fuel gage not reading right has it is old) nope not having it, we think fuel pump gone , but can we find a garage that will help us, nope, we willing to pay buy a new one even but no one wants to do the job, we have mechanic friends but even thay can not find us anyone, they want us to scrap it
"Tread the Globe" told me they sent you the name of a repair or parts place that can get you parts/repair. How nice of them, they don't even know me (or you). Hope it helps. Sending prayers for cheap repairs or decent rebuild or ? Hugs and best wishes. Wish i could help some way. 😜

Hi guys from Australia. All I can do is watch the adds for you and send love and good vibes. Unfortunately you will properly have to have the diff rebuilt, but the good news from that it will last a very long time into the future. Sending love and great vibes. From your Aussie nomad friends ❤❤😊
Poor Vinny .This is what we call a quandary and none easy choices. I do think in the long term, although you want to see how far you can go with Vinny If that means being stuck for weeks in places when you have so much to do searching for parts that will be very expensive. You may have to very seriously think of buying a new van The most cost effective way is to buy a fairly new van and to fit it out yourself .Their are many bargains .Auctions are worth looking or maybe a motor home with a bit more space .The UK is very expensive labour.I just dread to think how much you might be quoted. For parts you could try ringing auto salvage companies. At the end of the day you could spend 1.000 just getting one small part fitted .So I do think that you need to really weigh up the costs as other parts might wear out or become damaged. Some of the terrain you have travelled really cries outþ for a four wheel all terrain type vehicle an Vinny really serves you well but when you think he is too tired consider a fund raiser or Crowd funder and buy a new one.Best Love Stay strong .
Thanks for the advice, we really appreciate it and will need to replace our little old van soon, hopefully not yet though as he’s done so well and taken us everywhere over the last 5 years with hardly any issues at all!! Thanks so much for watching..😁

❤❤ Thankyou so much ❤️ x
Maybe get in touch with fellow You Tubers “Salvage Rebuilds” in Kent area fir advice on where to go for repairs .
Tried them several times, no reply!
Fingers crossed that you can get Vinny fixed. Stay positive.x
Thankyou so much Sarah❤️ x
Isn't it odd - we watch you every week, we know what you look like, and we feel like we know you and the boys. But you dont know us at all!
I'm glad that some of your followers are able to help, and that you've come up with some options. I hope Vinny is soon back on the road and you can go up to see your families. Good luck!
I so feel for you, and seeing Charlie having a wee wobble is sad, but so glad hes ok now. Hang in there, l love how positive you are. See you next time lol Alioban xxxx
❤❤❤ thanks Alioban. It’s all good.. We’re remaining positive and have had so much love and support from this amazing community xx
Xx
awwwww, Thankyou so much David ☺️☺️xx
Good luck guys hope you get your van on the road soon🙏❤
Thankyou so much Gary❤️ x
Sending prayers for finding the parts for Vinny much love
Feeling for you and hoping you're sorted soon x
Thanks Kaz😘😘
guys, In your youtube headings, please can you put the make/model/year of vinny - your subscribers will find the part for you, but its difficult to keep refering back to prvous vids to find the info.
Thanks so much.. We’ll get sorted soon I’m sure❤
The diff fluid that came out looked like mud. I had a diff problem in my truck while traveling a long distance. I changed out the fluid which fixed it right up.
Big kudos to those subscribers who offered assistance ❤️👍👍👍
❤❤
Mix a dollop or two of hummus in steamed or stir fried veggies; season as you want... so yummy!! Vegan sausages in there is yummy too.
best of luck for everything guys, and... HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! ♥♥♥
Gutted for you, hope the lead for the parts is successful, Vinny will live again 👊👊 x
Keeping fingers crossed that you get Vinny fixed very soon! 🤞
❤❤
Hope it all goes well with Vinny guys, must be a nightmare.
Hope you had a great anniversary and enjoyed your meal.
In all these years I've had a Ridge Monkey like yours, I've never thought of heating a Pie in one. Thats going to improve my eating enjoyment from now on so thanks for that.
Take care guys!
Thanks Steve.. Yeah the pies work so well in the ridge monkey.. Have to squeeze them in a bit but totally fine and yummy!
Hi there Nick Sarah and Doggies , I Hope you are all well , And Hope Vinnie Is getting his Dif sorted , Thanks for Sharing , Take care All . xxxx
Thanks Paul xx
Thanks Richard.. Yep it’s so hard to know what to do for the best in this situation.. We’ll see how the next few days go xx
Make sure you know the ratio of your replacement axel it could cause a havoc in many European countries trying to climb mountains, but on the flat could save a few Euros on diesel, also make sure your mechanic uses lock tight tread fixing paste on the prop shaft bolts, so that they don't spin off,
Ok, thanks for the advice xx
well, that's the problem with garages and parts suppliers these days.
Sending love to you! Thanks so much for watching..😁
You guys really do deserve some good luck. I have my fingers and toes crossed that the part you need can be found. I do love Margaret (she does look familiar though)😂 Keep your spirits up and hopefully you will be back on the road very soon 🙏
😂😂thanks Andrea ❤
I'm so glad u found someone to help. Keep my fingers crossed. For u both. God bless that nice you g man
Thankyou so much ❤️ x
We hope that you get Vinny back on the road soon. It's worth finding a replacement axle even if it costs a few thousand as he means so much to you and he's otherwise in good health. Just use some of the money that you had put aside for a bit of land in Portugal. Best of luck and good wishes.
Paul & Liz
Thanks so much guys.. We really want to make this work and keep Vinny on the road for a while longer, he’s been such a great van over the last 5 years so hopefully we can keep him for a while longer! Thanks so much for watching..😁
Everything crossed that you find the right parts . But you both are very positive people and you will sort it .
❤❤
Can’t help guys but good luck with getting Vinny fixed.
Thanks xx
Aww poor Charlie ( yes pets can feel our stress& pressure ). 🙏🙏🙏 you can get vinnie fixed .
Thanks.. Yeah poor Charlie but he’s doing so much better now 😊
Good morning you four, from Derbyshire, England.😍 Let's hope things get better soon. 😍🤞
❤❤
I’m sure you will sort it! Fingers crossed guys xx
❤❤
Hoping you can get sorted soon, and begin your travels again
awwwww, Thankyou Duncan.. Fingers crossed 🤞☺️xx
Awesome.. Yeah it’s been a crazy couple of weeks here in Dover.. Keep your fingers crossed for us and enjoy your trip away guys xx
Buy a scrap ford transit and use the back axle
Fingers crossed you get sorted.
Thanks John x
Wow, sounds great but yeah now an pity for us to come and collect from so far away.. We’ve got a couple more options🤞🤞
@@theexPAWers You should be able to find one over that way, there are a couple of transit parts specialists on ebay that might be able to point you in the right direction for a good van breakers,
Good luck finding the part take care xx
Thankyou so much ❤️ x
Fingers crossed that you find the correct parts keep safe 😀
Thanks xx
Bumpt start but won't it be grand when the Vinster is back on the road, raring to go. Stay safe, think positive, and love on those 2 little boys. Wish I could help more from Idaho.
We are excited to get him back on the road and it will happen for sure.. This is not the end of his journey 🚐💨
The is a small tin plate on the diff which will have all the numbers of the axial you will need sorry I can't pick up a part for you I am back in Spain know good luck with it
yeah we’ve got that.. Thanks so much for watching..
Get some universal greese on the bearing on the side door bearings and runner, it'll take that scrapping sound away when you slide the door shut unrelated but
Ok.. Thankyou so much ❤️ x
Nick you are always positive, always has a smile. Welcome to the U.K. to you all 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
awwwww, Thankyou☺️☺️xx
Probity half shaft snapped in the diff .common on old transit ..reguler oil changes with ep90 might of helped thou

Thanks Bev.. Yeah I replied to them.. Thanks so much for watching..😁
@@theexPAWers love you. Get fixed very soon. I am so worried about you. Hugs.
This is the first I've noticed that Charlie likes to curl his front paws under him. That is so cute! I don't think I've ever seen a dog so that LOL
Good luck with finding the part! Still hopeful for you guys ❤💚💙💜
awwwww, Thankyou.. Yeah he’s a little cutie ☺️xx
Hi guys from Australia. All I can do is watch the adds for you and send love and good vibes. Unfortunately you will properly have to have the diff rebuilt, but the good news from that it will last a very long time into the future. Sending love and great vibes. From your Aussie nomad friends ❤❤😊

Good Luck guys, I do hope things get sorted out for you soon. xx

Ducks are always the answer. Praying for y'all it sucks to have car problems anytime. Stay safe and see y'all in the next one.
awwwww, Thankyou☺️☺️xx
Hope all goes well

Exactly right! Thanks so much for watching..😁
