A big pile of turd. The 3.8 has notorious head gasket and valve seat failures. Valve guides go bad. Have any of you tried working on one? Head gaskets take 11 hours of billable labor, most cars take 4-5. There's barely any room to work. The transmission is horrid. Basically a Ford Taurus van, same tranny, and up until 1995, the same engine. In the base model they used the 3.0 in this van, and the Taurus used that up until it's end of production. All crap. Dodge Caravan used the Mitsubishi powertrain, far superior (although, still not great). Toyota Sienna is hands down the best van with few problems, and far easier to work on.
The design of the wind star is just beautiful we had a 2002 se turbo v6 and I loved the design it was passed on in the family’s for years until recently that we had to sell it because of financial problems but I would definitely recommend this van it’s reliable tough and pretty
Ford Windstar is a great van. Ihave 2 and one has 157,000 miles on it and the other 287,000 miles on it and there both in GREAT shape. They are dependable reliable and TOUGH . Built ford tough isnt just talking about pickups. FORD WINDSTAR IS THE BEST
I'm more of a truck guy, but I love those vans. My mom had one (most-likely copying our neighbor), only our's was a 1999-2000 and our neighbor's was an 01. Usually took the truck when my dad rode with us, but it was pretty good. It's too bad the earlier Ford motors sucked, because I loved those older Ford bodies.
Your video is kind of helpful to me cos I'm actually having it love it wanted to sell it due it's parts been scares or hard to find in my country the Gambia and cost a lot of money... And mechanic here are not experienced enough to work on my ford windstar 2003 exactly that on in the video... Electrically it's doors don't open automatically assume well
Has the rear-axle recall been performed on this vehicle? Looks like NO ONE, including the person that created this video; REPLY/COMMENT to this question that has been raised months ago by several earlier replies.
It happened to my mom's on the highway. We heard a loud sound but we were able to make all the way to a grocery store 3 minutes away. When I got out the rear tires were bent in.
@@codybettencourt6518 y'all are incredibly lucky that the vehicle didn't immediately spin out and possibly roll. Here is a test done by NHTSA. th-cam.com/video/_4X6x_T1U-U/w-d-xo.html
I rode in this van once but my stupid family put a ton of luggage 🧳 n the back and we were going on a really big hill in Costa Rica and my Mo’m didn’t read how much weight the minivan can carry and then while we were going on a tall hill there was smoke coming out from the hood of the car and the car just stopped working.

i have the same only troubles was coil pack went out around 130000 miles other then that no problems great trip car u can get bad in any auto i would buy another in a heart beat
A notorious POS. Ask any mechanic. Freeze plugs rot out by 80k miles. Transmission must be removed to replace. Has like 8 freeze plugs all around the engine and you never know which one is gonna blow. Transmission also goes around 80k. The entire rear axle has been recalled and can be replaced for free at a ford dealership. This crap mobile has a long least of known problems. Don't take my word for it. Plenty of information out there about it.

Robert Lemke my dads 2002 windstar lasted till 345k so sit ur ass down stupid
I have the Freestar, but I used to own the Windstar. I really liked the Windstar, but the Freestar is a big improvement.
What exactly are the improvements the freestar made over the Windstar? I am just wondering bc I like both.
@@fakejeepman06 Much better reliability & power especially.
@@2H2521 Ah okay, I guess I don't hear too much about the 3.9 or the 4.2 compared to the 3.8, relatively of course.

I still have this van has 241k and still runs! Valve cover leaks a little oil, but runs like a top.
Turbo? Was that on the sport model or something?

Lol, Windstars are terrible vans
Are the gas on these? I'm might be buying one today
I love the Windstars. They just had the Vulcan, which is the worst motor Ford made. Put an Ecoboost in the Windstar, and you hav a badass van.
@@fordman2698 I thought the Windstar had the 3.8L Essex V6?
Wow you really meant "full tour" glad I watched can look at it multiple times. Been thinking of making this vehicle my business vehicle.
beautiful minivan!
Lol😂
It was fords second luxury trim next to the limited version which is to die for

The Ford AEROSTAR, however, was great. Rear wheel drive, and used the 4.0 which was a workhorse of an engine. Ugly van, though, ha.
I still love this Van the limited with all the chrome trim and parchment color leather and the separate bucket seats in second row
If you press the lock button 3 times it will start up
You know, I think it did that, but I totally forgot to mention it haha
It’s a Wicked Minivan….
can you find AM radio station for me?

Those vans looked exactly like the 96-00 Dodge Caravan Plymouth Voyager Chrysler Town And Country
Even though they have their share of issues, they’re nice vans. Lots of space. Nice ride. Etc

That engine noise is no problem to fix! Good condition.

is this minivan reliable?
Ford couldn't have discontinued these soon enough. Uncomfortable and cheaply made. You can actually see some ugly tube that goes to the E Brake.
