Along with the synthesizer, saxophone and drums, Edgar also worked the cameras, the ticket booth, the concession stand, popped popcorn, and served drinks in between instruments lol
I'm an old af woman and I just LOVE watching you (and other young reactors) listening to this music for the first time! I heard EW Group for the first time when I was a teenager! IMO no one can compare to the talent and creativity from the artists of "my" generation!
Agree 100%. I was a teen in the 70's. I can't even list how many concerts I went to. Saw them all. Lucky us. Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" in 1973 took me to another dimension. Bowie also took me on a trip. So many more. We lived at concerts since tickets were about $18. Wouldn't trade it for the world. ✌🌻🌻
in my opinion, the late Johnny Winter ( R.I.P. ) was the greatest blues guitarist of our time, electric and acoustic......he was and his bro, Edgar, is albino from Texas........
Edgar Winter and his brother Johnny (Who unfortunately has passed.) we're musical geniuses! Two albinos who couldn't stay out in the sun much, so stayed inside learning to play multiple instruments and became master musicians! See that piano/synthesizer around his neck? Edgar Winter is the pioneer of that which affectionately became known as the "Keytar!" Check out the live version of "Tobacco Road" with both Edgar and Johnny! The vocals will blow you away!
I saw the winter gruop in concert back then. 1st up was Rick Derringer with his own band, Then Brother Johnny with his band, then Edgar. After that they all got together for an amazing end.
Their other hit song from the same album is Free ride. One of the guitarists-Rick Derringer would have a rockin solo hit next year titled Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo-Rick was also in the 60s band-the McCoys who had a number one hit called Hang On sloopy. the other guitarist Dan Hartman would have unbelievably a disco hit in 1979 titled Instant replay.
That was live, in front of an audience. Blow away huh? Edgar Winter has many more songs you should hit, some with this group, and some with his brother Johnny Winter. Check out Tobacco Road with Edgar and Johnny Winter. Edgar sings some amazing blues on that one. BTW, the guitarist here was Rick Derringer, who had a big hit on his own called Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo.
Edgar Winters White Trash group had a live album "Roadwork" that set the world on fire with funky blues, gospel and rock n roll the way it should be done. Must listen! His Brother Johnny and this guitarist Rick Derringer absolutely shred. Horns kill it. Vocals like never done before, What a jam album! I got my funky stank face from that album!!
You have almost certainly heard the synthesizer Edgar Winter is playing before. It's an ARP 2600, connected to the keyboard by a long cable. Ben Burtt used an ARP 2600 for making R2D2's voice in Star Wars and for "ark" sound effects in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Loved your reaction to it!
I’m a 66 year old and STILL a pot smoking hippie and that’s not gonna change! Kid’s these days don’t know what real music is unless they lived in the REAL HIPPIE generation of the 60’s & 70’s…the BEST music of all time from Blues, Rock & Hard Rock, to Mo-Town to R & B. There will NEVER be anything like the REAL HIPPIE generation ever again…those were the BEST TIMES of our life’s.
I was so lucky to go to school with Johnny and Edgar Winter. Played bass with them in the early years. Looking back they lead the way to music along with a few others. Thanks for sharing them, makes my day!!!
Lucky? I’d say. Every musician in my school was either not serious or really stoned most of the time. Like when they were awake. lol. You actually played with them a while? That’s a cool story to tell. So sad we lost Johnny but I did get to see him play and I saw Edgar with Rick Derringer in around 1975 and what a show. I didn’t know until fairly recently that it was actually Ronnie Montrose on “They only come out at night.” Another amazing musician (RIP). I’m thrilled to see some folks from this generation hearing some of these great songs and bands. So much different now, not saying anything bad about today’s music, but I’m still learning to play stuff from the 60s-80s. In fact I was sitting here (attempting) to learn this song when I saw this video come up. One of my favorite live performances of Frankenstein. Awesome
Eger Winters has that effect on people. Slack jawed and wondering what you just saw. And you haven't heard him sing. Ck out "Tabacco road" live... his brother Johnny plays lead. R.I.P.
*YOU WONT READY FOR THIS!!!* Imagine how people felt when this came out in '73! The Winter Bros were PHENOMS!!! Check out Johnny Winter when you get a chance!
I just subscribed to your channel November 26. I’m an older woman 1955 but I do agree we had the best music back then. It’s so fun to see this again through young reactioner’s eyes. It’s like seeing it new all over again. THE BEST!!
Edgar Winter could literally play all the instruments on any given rock stage. I have seen him live and it was just as incredible as this performance. Also, he invented that keyboard he is playing, so he could be in the forefront of the stage rather than in the background like most keyboard players. Pure genius!
Had this cranked in the basement in the 70s Almost brought a tear. Damm those were the good old days. Long hair, ripped jeans, crappy weed and a girlfriend from the trailer park. Nice
I saw Edgar play twice at the Belly Up in Solana Beach CA back around the late 80s, early 90s maybe. I was in jr high when Frankenstein hit the air waves and we absolutely loved it. 15+ years later when I saw him live on stage in a small club, it blew my mind that he was playing all those instruments. What a show. I never knew he did all that. Such a talent. I saw Johnny play there too once. I love Blues, but Johnny was a bit more of a Blues purist than I was a fan of, but Edgar kept me thoroughly entertained both times I saw him.
The most overlooked and one of the most underrated bands in Rock History. They were all master musicians and 20 years ahead of their time. So innovative and original. I was fortunate enough to be a teenager in the 1970's and got to see them live in Michigan where they toured regularly.
The song imitates the sound of the electricity used to animate the monster in the Frankenstein lore. The studio cut is leaner and meaner though. Rick Derringer on guitar, check out "Rock 'n' Roll Hootchie Koo".
Great 👍 Edgar Winter plays sax, guitar and keyboards 🎹 The other famous member was the late Dan Hartman. He left to go solo. Suggested song 🎵 Free Ride. RIP Dan Hartman
This is an amazing performance and was back in the day when you had to play your own instruments and be multi talented. No computer generated or auto tuned music. What a concept.
Chuck Ruff on drums, Rick Derringer on guitar child prodigy hit with the McCoy - hang on Sloopy. Dan Hartman bass, voice for movie hit ,I can Dream About You from Streets Of Fire .
Yep! Edgar Winter on keyboards and other instruments, Rick Derringer on Guitar, Dan Hartman on bass guitar, and Chuck Ruff on Drums... Dan Hartman and Chuck Ruff have passed on. They were great musicians. They didn't stay together that long. Most went their own separate ways. But the time they were together, they made awesome music... I remember living in B'ham Al. as a teenager my first time hearing them. That sound they had was fire... I'm a young brother down there at that time and everybody's rocking to them no matter where you came from... They did an album before that too that was good. It's called, Edgar Winter's (Road Work) and it's live. Got some great sounds on it. Check it out!!! And others as well. Edgar had a brother named, "Johnny Winter!" An awesome guitarist, he passed in 2014. RIP Johnny. He could lay down some blues too. Those brothers are very talented. And those other guys are too. Rock Derringer was successful as well. Awesome sounds young man. 💯💯🔥🔥. I still listen to them at the present time✌️👍
Love the brothers, Edgar and Johnny. Only albino brothers stars that I know of. This song was one of my favorite instrumentals of the the time, and free ride is another favorite. Johnny Winter his elder brother went strictly into blues and produced 3 albums for the great muddy waters. He is inducted into the blues hall of fame. He and Edgar made their debut on television when they were ten and twelve on a kids show. Their father was from Mississippi and played sax, guitar and piano. They are from Beaumont, Texas. Johnny died in 2014 in Switzerland. Go check him out and do a reaction for us. 😎
This live version of this song is a total experience. It blew me away the first time I saw it. Edgar Winter is very talented & plays many instruments including keyboards, saxophone & timbales. The title "Frankenstein" refers he fact that the original recording of the song was much longer than the final version & it required numerous edits to shorten it. So they spliced together many different parts.
Some things are best watched live and this was one of those things. If you haven't already seen Chicago playing "25 or 6 to 4" live at Tanglewood, it's another must-see.
Edgar is not just an excellent keyboard and drummer, and sax player. He can sing too. Check out free ride and Tobacco road. Edgar is a musical 🎼 genius.
They are playing live in a television studio. The programme they are performing on is 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'. If you want to watch some amazing talent like these lads, from this era, approximately 1970-84 or there abouts, playing live, you should check out 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'.
I read a comment about Edgar& Johnny...a guy that went to school w/them said due to lack of pigment, their hair, skin+eyes were so pale that they BOTH were considered Legally blind. So from poor eye sight & staying inside, they became gifted in Hearing. And we can testify to their gifts of SOUNDS! I agree with the majority of comments: TOBBACO ROAD w/both brothers CANT BE MATCHED!! 🤯 It will DEFINATELY blow your mind👍🏻Love love love your reactions. Takes me back to my "first" time(s) hearing their songs. 🎶🎵🔥⚡
Edgar Winter is one of those musical geniuses that just lives and breathes music. He also sings, plays guitar and can play a full drum set as well as any drummer out there. He and his brother Johnny both have albinoism, that's why he's so pale, he's not ill. I believe if you gave him a paper plate, a plastic cup and a straw he could create music. I saw Edgar Winter in Dallas way back in '78 with special guests, which turned out to be incredible. Steve Lukather, Neil Donnel, Eric Burdon and a relatively unknown Stevie Ray Vaugn. The Steve Miller Band finished the night and everyone came out for a finale, House of The Rising Sun. I don't think any concert has ever topped that one for me.
Had the pleasure of seeing Edgar and his group perform three different times, once at around the time this was made... in a very small venue, the Union Bar in Minneapolis, only a few hundred people at most... we were lucky to have seats not six feet from the stage, which was only elevated a foot or two off the floor, a very close and intimate setting... and I can attest to the fact that they played perfectly tight live, might as well have been listening to a studio recording, as far as how well they played together, not an ounce of slop in their musicianship. Edgar was a true virtuoso on several instruments and it was an amazing thing to behold.
Keyboards...sax...and, of course, call and response on DRUMS! Two of the most talented brothers in modern music history [Johnny (not on this song) and Edgar Winter.]
Edgar and Johnny Winter were shredders of the first magnitude bro. Very few as good as these brothers. I love love love their work and have for years. Ok, now do Buddy Miles and “Them Changes.” It will rock your world. Buddy sat in on one of my gigs many years back; as the master drummer and singer he was and killed it. Very nice humble man as well. He was the voice on the California Raisin commercial years ago as well. Ya just gotta hear this dude. Passed away many years ago sadly.
I saw this band in a giant music hall in a covered stadium .....You're lookin at musicians of the highest ability. Most memorable was the bass player with the bass guitar built into a jump suit . Edgar Winter and his brother are musically geniuses.
They played on each others songs as well. Edgar backed up guitarist Rick Derringer on his song "Rock and Roll Hoochiecoo" so you may want to check that out.
Edger and his brother Johnny are albinos which means they can’t be in the sun long because they would get severely sunburn so as kids they had to stay inside and music was their outlet and they learn to play every instrument and got real good at them oh by the way they was from Texas
They're from my hometown I've seen them live more than once and met them more than once they're both awesome. I saw Johnny a few months before he passed away in a hotel room on the road doing what he loved in his seventies
@@rhondabrown1258 👍🏼 I was born in Beaumont and still live in a Beaumont address but outside the city. I was a sophomore in HS when Frankenstein came out an unbelievable 50 years ago.
@@tvc184 I was actually born in Port Arthur, but I also lived in Beaumont. I live in Hemphill now. I think I was in junior high when Frankenstein came out. I first fell in love with Johnny Winter when I was 13 and introduced to his album Johnny Winter and Live. I was hooked for sure! Then I fell in love with his brother after that. Edgar's doing a tour again with the Ringo all-star band this year. Still going strong. I just learned today he is in an excellent health. Hallelujah!

I would like to suggest a band called "Lettuce" if you enjoy the high power funky jams.
Edgar Winter is a remarkably gifted multi instrumentalist and vocalist. For several years he won the Playboy Music Poll as a saxophonist.
From back in the day when musicians could play their instrument and bands had actual talent. I'm lucky I grew up with this music.
Along with the synthesizer, saxophone and drums, Edgar also worked the cameras, the ticket booth, the concession stand, popped popcorn, and served drinks in between instruments lol
True shit. He was also one of the best guitar players of our generation.
Loved Johnny AND Edgar Winter!!!’
Bet you’ve never Heard In-A-Gada da Vita!!!😎
In 1988, he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, the first non-African-American performer to be inducted into the Hall.
I saw them do this live. It was my first rock show. Barton Coliseum, Little Rock, Ark. $2.50 ticket in 1973.
I'm an old af woman and I just LOVE watching you (and other young reactors) listening to this music for the first time! I heard EW Group for the first time when I was a teenager! IMO no one can compare to the talent and creativity from the artists of "my" generation!
In the 70s I came across the Album roadwork in a bargain bin, I took it home nd have been hooked ever since

Edgar is a musical genius. he can play any song. He named it Frankenstein because he tore it apart and rearranged it

I was born in Beaumont and still live in a Beaumont address but outside the city.
Hallelujah!
