    That’s awesome! My dad always wanted trains around the ceiling. When I move definitely going to do something like this in my room!

    Jay, thanks for showing. I’ve debated the route of how I want to approach a layout in my home. This gives me a great amount of insight if I do something in my spare bedroom.

      You’re welcome! It’s definitely been a nice way of running trains, just gotta have a stool or something if you eat to get up there to swap what you’re running from time to time, lol!

    I think I have found a helper to get my ceiling run up. I've watched your video several times. It is so useful. I'll try to let you know. I may have to try Menards track, cost is so much easier. Trying to run 2 loops...Wow....Some how I want to try 1 conventional and 1 DCS. I have a bunch of old Lionel and K-line stuff, for one and I bought a PS-2 Niagara for the other. I want to keep my Centipede and Triplex on the table. Take Care!

    Hi Jay I am in the process of installing a shelf train. It will have 2 tracks running side by side, American Flyer and O guage. I like the Norfolk & Western cars. I grew up in Roanoke Virgonia and I had a lot of relatives who worked for Norfolk & Western. Thanks for your video.

      Hi Jay why didn't you use Fastrac? Some people say Fastrac is noisy? Was Gargraves easy to use? Thank you 😊

    Jay.. I am brand new in "O". I don't have a section of track up as of yet. I've been accumulating track/switches for a few weeks now. I use AnyRail track planning and I came up with a neat plan for my 13'x19' room...however I already have a three wall, 20" wide HO shelf switching layout and I can't pull the plug on taking it down to give "O" a try so I came up with an around the room ceiling layout plan as you did. I searched "O" shelf layouts and yours came up. The tips and explanations given has fit me perfect. I'll be using Atlas track with Ross custom switches. I've been seeking advice on the OGR forum which has helped a lot. Right now I only have an older ZW to power it up. I'm north of you in Ocala. I go over to Port Orange to Roundhouse South for supplies. I subbed so I can keep up with your progress and continue to gain much needed advice through your videos. Thanks for sharing. Tom

      Hey Tom, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed this video! 😄 The OGR forum has definitely helped me out with projects as well, lots of very knowledgeable folks on there. I’d definitely recommend getting one or two Lionel power bricks for your ceiling layout as well. So far I’ve just been using one and it’s powered both lines alright, but for a room of the size you mentioned, two might be a safe bet if you plan on running more than two engines at once or a lot of passenger cars. I’ve also been talking with a few guys from the OGR Forum who live between here and Ocala about the possibility of starting an O Gauge Club around the town of Inverness, perhaps being a Modular group. Just wanted to throw that out there, lol!

    I've seen layouts with HO creating the illusion of distance, like a shay in the mountains, hide the bump switch in the tunnel at both ends. 😊 run it slow.

    Great vidd just moved into a new house with a big workshop in the back so my woodworking shop is about 17 by 10 and I'm looking for the shelf layout on the ceiling I was wondering I like to run two trains so how wide is your shelf.

    • @jaystrains27
      @jaystrains27  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Reuben! My shelf layout on the straight sections is 1 foot wide. That leaves plenty of room for two trains to run!

    Do you think 10 wide would be enough for dual tracks? I'm going with 72 and 46 curves all gargraves track

    • @jaystrains27
      @jaystrains27  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I believe that 10” wide should be alright! 👍

    Thanks for sharing!!! How big is your room? My room is about 16' square and I'd like to run 2 trains. Wiring is probably my biggest concern, I don't know how to get an even flow of power. From the brick all the way around the room. So glad I found your video. Stay Safe and Well. Happy New Year.

    • @jaystrains27
      @jaystrains27  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Joe! The room I have it set up in is approximately 14 ft x 13 ft. I only have the tracks wired in just one corner on each loop and power flows pretty well around it from the Lionel power brick I use!

    • @joegennari395
      @joegennari395 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaystrains27 WOW!!! That's great news. My room is just a bit bigger. And I have a Lionel 180 and if I have to I'll get a 2nd. Probably going to try Menards track. 1. probably only going to run conventional. I have an MTH M-1 it is HUGE 38" from nose to the end of the tender, and the only place I could run it would be up there. 2. Can't afford that much atlas, mth or Lionel track. Thanks! My table layout is 8x10 and can't run the UP Centipede (48") and the M-1 at the same time!

    i'm just south of you, totally get the lack of space. if i want to run trains i have to wait for a rainy day off and spend a couple hours setting up track on the living room floor after rolling out a rug and multicolored child's alphabet foam rubber floor mats. then after wiring up a power and unboxing all the trains i have a little time to run them before i have to put it all back away. down the line i have plans to convert the garage to a bonus "basement" room and run a two track O72 shelf layout up and around, i just have concerns it'll be a little too high up to see anything....

    • @jaystrains27
      @jaystrains27  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can understand that! If it’s gonna be around 11 to 12 feet off the ground on a 1 foot wide shelf, then while standing you can see both trains running. Any higher than that and the loop closest to the wall probably would be kinda hidden from standing level unless you have a stool or platform to stand on. By the way, me and a couple of local guys I’ve met on the OGR forum have been discussing possibly starting an O Gauge club somewhere in the Citrus or Hernando County area if you’d be interested! I’m gonna see about getting everyone together maybe sometime after the holidays in January to talk about it being either a modular group or a layout set in one location.
